Fun Fact: That "lady" signing near the end of the original track is actually Marty himself. He recorded the vocals and they pitched and adjusted it to sound like a woman singing.
Deffo agree. Chord progressions in the first bit of the song are just really heavy and have a desperate feel to them. Sounds amazing with the strings in the H3 version, and the times it is used in that game.
It was used twice in CE, ironically the most remembered moments in the game. Not sure how it was underused. I'm glad he remade it, but none of the remakes ever got close to the original imo.
It is a very memorable level. The music is a big part of why. The first headshot to that unwary jackal, and this wonderful music just pops on. Amazing game design.
When I plays in two betrayals I'm like I'm almost done.... I go to fight the flood group to my right, kill the melee and the carrier form but the combat forms with guns are making life hard (legendary difficulty) then the banshee bombs them killing them both. I loom around and watch as it falls out of the sky... rocket flood. A gold elite rushes me, I quickly kill him and move up to the covenant outpost. All dead and a horde of flood rush me. If things were different goldy... maybe we could be friends... you too pilot...
Marty just uploaded the "making of" this classic track on his channel. I found the vocals to be incredibly fascinating, it's literally just Marty in the booth alone at night making stuff up as he listens to the song. Add reverb and there you have those amazing vocals.
Its night cycle on Alpha Halo, you're just coming out of a tunnel section, tthe screen goes to letterbox view, and the words Final Run appear on screen Oh the nostalgia
I'd agree with everyone here on the multiplayer being shit, they literally let go of almost every aspect of original matchmaking, except for grifball and even that doesn't feel the same, but I had almost as much fun in halo 5s campaign as I did in the last, and that's saying something, because I thought halo 4s story still had what it took to be considered halo
One of my favorite things about Martin O'Donnell's work -- the themes returned in new clothing, mingled with other themes, and had meaning. Excellent work putting all these together here! Thanks for the video!
Having this and other Halo tracks playing in the background seems to help me when I'm playing CS:GO competitive... But I had an issue with my mic and it basically broadcast this instead, and a friend of mine was like "Dude, are you in a strip club?"
This song brings forth an emotion that I can't explain. I'm sad. I'm happy. I want to cry but I'm almost giggling with joy. I want to keep listening forever. God dammit marty what have you done to me?
Awesome. One more version of this can be found at about 6:00 into the song "Finale" from the Halo 3 ODST soundtrack. Nice work though. Much appreciate.
Yep... well.. sort of. See, that's actually a revisit of Halo Reborn, which is a revisit of In Amber Clad, which is a partial remake of Under Cover of Night. I simply didn't put Finale, or In Amber Clad, since In Amber Clad has 4 different remakes of its own (Halo Reborn, Greatest Journey, Finale, and ONI: Sword Base).
i love this song for its mello yet suspencful vibe rather then the gung ho lets kill some badguys and rock out doin it vibe u get from the other halo soundtracks
I know you posted this way before Halo 5, but for the record, 'Osiris Suite: Act 1' may also be considered as an adaptation of this. For anyone who'd like to hear a bit more.
Internet speed drops while listening to this. Me: "On the blood of our fathers, on the blood of our sons, we must fight. " Video completely gets loaded till the end.....
Yes and no. That's a remake of Halo 2's "In Amber Clad", which is kind of a remake of "Under Cover of Night". I didn't include it because it's part of a different series of remakes.
+PrometheanSigma It resembles Under Cover of Night and not In Amber Clad. It essentially vocalises the keys with a lower tempo (a few ambient violas in the background too). You might be thinking of Section 2 of Roll Call in the Halo 3 OST which integrates both In Amber Clad and Under Cover of Night.
There's just something different about the Original version from the rest... it makes me wanna do stargazing at night and it also clears my mind while listening to it..
This vid forgot the middle section of Mombasa Suite, around the 3:15 mark of Mombasa Suite, the drums are identical and the electric guitar is similar to UCoN's base
Immediately after actually. This plays once you clear out the initial area and reach the point where cortana says "Stop. Motion trackers show movement around the next bend" Yes it is unhealthy that i remember the quote exactly
Honestly, the Halo: Legends remake was my personal favorite. Bungie needs Michael O'Donnell back, Salvatori is awesome, but the former has done much more epic music
Fun Fact: That "lady" signing near the end of the original track is actually Marty himself. He recorded the vocals and they pitched and adjusted it to sound like a woman singing.
That's all neat. Thanks for that tidbit
Ship Master, they outnumber us three to one!
"Then it is an even fight. All cruisers, fire at will! Burn their mongrall hides!"
Great quote work. One of the most memorable moments :)
*mongrel
Underrated character
the fuck you on about? that part didnt have this music. the track that plays during that part is "farthest outpost"
@@EthanThomson Calm down you're right but calm down
I'm very glad Martin decided to reuse the theme in the games after, because it was quite underused in CE.
Exactly twice
The Final Run
Deffo agree. Chord progressions in the first bit of the song are just really heavy and have a desperate feel to them. Sounds amazing with the strings in the H3 version, and the times it is used in that game.
@@Dave_Chrome Final Run was definitely its best use in CE,despite how people seem to only remember T&R
It was used twice in CE, ironically the most remembered moments in the game. Not sure how it was underused. I'm glad he remade it, but none of the remakes ever got close to the original imo.
I have one problem, the song has an ending.
Helljumper JJG0813 I agree :(
And so does the series
Nothing ever lasts forever....
WROOONG:
_True legends never die, they just respawn_
Sikowny spartans never die they're just missing in action
All of them are great. The original still sounds the best though.
:)
Marty is a genius!
zgtfreak I think cloaked in blackness gives it a run for its money, the bass was better imo but the drums kinda spoilt it.
I prefer halo legends version. It sounds more epic
yes. A thousand times YES
miss halo 1 with the background vocals made it seem very native and dangerous. grab your sniper because your in for a fight
It is a very memorable level. The music is a big part of why. The first headshot to that unwary jackal, and this wonderful music just pops on. Amazing game design.

Man these were literally the songs that played in my head when I played halo 5 for the first time and was heartbroken at how shit it was.
Hey, it aint that bad
@@anameorsomething894 it is
Imo I think it feels like halo, there are some disappointments but It is still great.
Stick Bug imo most of the halo games are masterpieces but halo 5 was just okay
I'd agree with everyone here on the multiplayer being shit, they literally let go of almost every aspect of original matchmaking, except for grifball and even that doesn't feel the same, but I had almost as much fun in halo 5s campaign as I did in the last, and that's saying something, because I thought halo 4s story still had what it took to be considered halo
the good old days... I just want bungie back and martin o'donnel
dont we all
pleasant thoughts, but, well, Destiny. Halo wars 2 is a step in the right direction though.
i think its a half assed step in the right direction, tho it is progress
will sadly never happen. O'Donnell left Bungie on bad terms and Halo is now firmly a Microsoft property managed by 343.
Benjamin Gadberry really i never knew so sad!

nice picture
Nice, man. I approve!
Has profile of Half life, comment based on Counter strike, listens to Halo OSTs.
Interesting!
Great work man! I just wish we had Marty back, halo's not the same without him.
+leländtyler D Bungie ditched halo for destiny anyway.
SangheiliScavenger Bungie is definately not what they used to be.
People should also check out cursed lemon's remix of this song, he did an amazing job.
ikr
Wage sounds like the most epic space battle is about to take place
I hope halo infinite uses wage or the HL remake of it
I didnt know there were more version of this song....im shock. I thought it was only in Halo combat. Evolved. ( the original)
martin, COME BACK!
***** Still, martin was sooooooooooooo much better.
Well, martin has always made great music, some of which are my favorites in general music, long lived martin.
***** Yeah yeah, I know he works at some random company now.
It’s so amazing how this single melody could convey so many different emotions.
very good MAN !
Thanks :)
Then 8 years later the song got it's own game.
TheBupMasterToad64 really?
Halo 3 odst's soundtrack had a similar tone to this music, I said that as a joke.
I love how it went from a simple cover of night to the music I hum when thinking about the UNSC. The cover of memories is how it feels
Amazing! Good on you for looking out to us Halo fans!
I honestly never noticed the versions other than the CE one.
My mind is blown.
This song is so good, that *even* 343i can't mess it up!
Yeah uh... About that

*Under cover of night starts playing*
Text from dad: "why tf are u cryin"
This song IS Halo for me. There are other tracks too, especially per game, but because this song IS CE, for me, that makes it THE song for Halo.
This song is perfection. That bass is beautiful
Great work! Also, you can hear a peep of the motif in The Greatest Journey in Halo 3's soundtrack.
This song scared me as a kid...
I don't know why😂
RobbieP15 because you were scared of the dark
I don't know why but it used to make me sleepy.
It made me felt alone in this vast universe while being on the ring yet feeling the beauty of it.
Tristan Backup good description
The original and Duty Bound are the best versions imo
You forgot Halo reborn and Greatest journey - Halo 3
Reminds me of Halo Homecoming goddammit
How sad
At least she didn't get supercombined.
Updated compilation with Halo 2 Anniversary/Halo Infinite versions out now: th-cam.com/video/s1GnrF-vArQ/w-d-xo.html

I could listen to this over and over
Such a dope song
Listening as always at amazing 240p :)
I’ve been looking for that halo legends version for so long but I couldn’t put my finger on it to look it up
Thank you for this!!
My pleasure :)
I love these videos. Although there are the versions from Halo Reborn and Greatest Journey that are missing. Just something that I noticed.
Technically "Underestimated" is also a double remix, mixing In Amber Clad from H2, and Under Cover of Night.
I know you posted this way before Halo 5, but for the record, 'Osiris Suite: Act 1' may also be considered as an adaptation of this. For anyone who'd like to hear a bit more.
Hm, really? I haven't noticed any remastered trilogy music in H5 other than the main theme and the Arbiter's theme.
Internet speed drops while listening to this.

Hey hey you're right, I have to enjoy this moment
I can feel those baselines in my *bones*
When this plays on Tsavo highways end cutscene with lord hood making a speech I get goosebumps

Damn, that's actually really nice mashup.
Ah, th completely original Under Cover of Darkness from 2001. My favorite song in the franchise.
The bass tabs in Duty Bound sounds so cool
Perfect video to watch before I go to bed

The Halo legends version of this song is dangerously underrated.
looks like im watching Halo Legends for the 500th time
halo 2 adaptation of under cover of night is called wage and the full song is heard in the delta halo suite
whoops never mind, didn't wait to type
When I heard this my first thought was "Its the song from Halo Legends!" (I played CEA first)
and then 343 took over and we never heard a soundtrack like these anymore(besides halo 4's never forget)
You forgot In Amber Clad from Halo 2 lol.
Underestimated in halo 3 was one
Helljumper JJG0813 no u
Quality3rr0r also another from halo legends, when the female spartan is running to the pelican and remembers her old life
There's just something different about the Original version from the rest... it makes me wanna do stargazing at night and it also clears my mind while listening to it..
Halo: Legends gives me the avengers assemble theme vibes
Ikr!
i always saw this as the best halo score
4:40 That part reminds me a little of Stellaris or Endless Space because of the distinct electronic effects \o/
beautiful
"One final push is all that remains.."
Under cover of night and dream again are favorites
this the best of all of the military like soundtracks in halo
wage
Brilliant chilled☺.
Duty Bound sounds like a remix of In Amber Clad as well
Pray the Great Marty on his glorious journey to OST salvation!
Fuck this song brings back memories im crying
This needs a remake with the H2A remake and Halo Infinite version
*applauds*
Fantastic Idea.
There is also one you missed on the oni sword base track. 3 minutes into the oni sword base track you will here an adaption of these tracks.
The last song sounds like a remix of in Amber clad from halo 2
It is, you're not wrong.
+PrometheanSigma thanks man
Under cover of... DARKNESS?!?! Maybe Under cover of Night!
_Final Run_
07:54 : is on halo 2 the "uprising" mission when u.r almost at the end of the mission and u see on ur screen "fight club"
the halo 2 version of this song is so damn good too bad it was hidden away in the delta halo suite for so long so I never found it :(
I’m pretty sure the track “Halo Reborn” from Halo 3 is also a rendition of this
The Truth and Reconciliation
a grunt and an elite dislike lol
Gerardo Sarricolea more like Prophets Truth and Mercy. now all we need is Regret.
Tanner Allen jejejeje
He is surely going to Regret that
Greatest Journey features the tune
The really obvious omission in "Halo Reborn"
Bass is something that is underrated I’m Marty’s music
Love it
MARTIN O DONNELL WE NEED YOU
You forgot about Halo 3's OST-Track #8 (at the end of the track)
We jamin to the drum solo on Wage tho fr

**FINAL RUN**
You cann hear it in the legendary ending cutscene of halo 3 odst. It's only the vocal
wath is the name of the under cover of night with batery an a female voice the adaptation start in the minute 1:48
Honestly, as dirty as they did Halo CEA, Cloaked in Blackness doesn't sound that bad in comparison to the other remixes.
