You're definitely not insane. It's 100% there. They've 100% been trickling horizontal-type game elements into the game for a few/several months now. Thing is, you have to really understand what horizontal elements even are, like you, yourself do, to have caught on to it.
Dropping gems and freeing minds here. Good mention of the dread keeper augs. They have been demonized and players think glass cannon is the way. Meanwhile some of the same players spend half of the time on the ground waiting to be revived. Yes, it's more than raw numbers.

if i need crit like everyone else does, and I buy the xover without the fixia I pretty much just wasted my seasonal points. Especially if I dont have a stockpile of add presets skills laying around to gamble on getting a termina -_-
Hello! -Xover is not a Seasonal Weapon. -Xover Crits just like any & all weapons do. -Xover costs Growthment II, which you can get an abundance by running Leciel or the LTQ. Almost absurdly easily obtainable right now. -You can get a Xover with a guaranteed Fatale 1 (the best general fixa unless you're slayer) on it for 300 Growthment II. Guaranteed. - Add On Skill Presets drop pretty much like candy from everything right now, plus you get 3 a week for free. If you don't have any, it's simply because you literally do not play the game. - If you need a Termina, it does not matter what weapon you choose. You will have to gamba with add preset lvl 1s. Which, once again. Are widely accessible. Have a good day & happy hunting!

Yes, PSO2 New Genesis (PSO2 NGS) was released in 2021 and there are plenty of people who still play the game, as the game continues to receive consistent updates. Do not be confused with the old Base version which is just "PSO2". This originally came out in 2012 and is all but dead. However the two games have connectivity, though it is in no way shape or form needed or recommended to backtrack to Base PSO2. Welcome to the world of New Genesis!

i did a gunblade reya with fixa 5 termina and is nice, but a want to play bounce so i go for other weapon
