WE HAVE A WINNER!!!! Congrats to Mark te Mebel on winning the Gretsch :) Sorry for the delay posting I was taking a but of a break from social media but back at it now.
I can't stop playing it since it arrived. Had my first gig with it last weekend. Love the clarity, cuts through so well. The perfect guitar for my indie rock band
People say PRS is the midpoint between a Gibson and a Fender, but a Gretsch is the real midpoint of thick but sparkly sound. I own 4 lefty Gretsch- a brown Country Gent 2, a racing green Jet, an Oxblood Bo Diddley all from Japan and a Korean Blue G4020T. They are really fun guitars, especially in a world where lefty choice is limited.
I hate fender. And Les Paul’s . All hype. Fenders QC control went to crap literally. Op’s to much counterfeiting and hype with them. That guitar set up exactly right will be better then a Lp imho .
We the jury find this guitar quilty. Love the intro, I’ve only played a Gretch once at GC. It played beautifully. Very comfortable and lightweight for its size. Thanks for everything you do for the guitar community. Get your shred on and keep it bluesy. Love you, Robert
I play a Duesenberg Starplayer TV. It’s also a perfect midpoint between a Strat and a Les Paul. It has a really awesome pickup configuration of a Humbucker bridge and a P90 at the neck. I’ve had this guitar for about a year and a half, and absolutely LOVE it!!!
Had a gold top gretsch and I instantly regretted getting rid of it. Though I love my LP, gretsch is its own thing. I enjoy the bigsby w/ a Leslie and a generous amount of plate verb. Magnifique! Loved the kneck pickup in that one. Makes me want to play wicked games already…!!!
I got a 6120 a while back. I really love the guitar. It has a unique sound that sets it apart from the "others". I have always appreciated the Gretsch control layout - volumes for each PU, master tone, master volume.
Hallelujah!, You have seen the light! I don't have a Gretsch! I have 2! A G5410T Rat Rod and an Electromatic Pristine LTD Center Block. Never going back to anything else. Love My Gretsch! The model you have there is called the Gretsch G5655TQM Electromatic Center Block Junior. Goes for $999.00 most places. Has Black Top Broad’Tron Pickups all Maple construction with a Spruce Center block. Body depth is 1.75" (44.45 mm) and scale length is 24.6" (625 mm) Radius is 12 " Nut width is 1.6875" (42.86 mm) has 22 frets and a Nubone nut. God, I Love Gretsch!
I have a G5427TG in an incredible dark blue color. With the gold hardware, it is just stunning. I bought it to play jazz but it can really do just about anything.
I was a Gretsch nut from 2002, until 2017. Country Clubs were my thing. I love hollowbodies, and don't let people set you wrong, you can rock VERY HEAVY on a FilterTron or Dynasonic loaded Gretsch - you just need to know how to set up your amp (oh yeah, and quit trying to make it sound like a Gibson or a Fender). Why did I quit playing Gretsches? - the thin necks! I play classical style, which means my thumb stays behind the neck (courtesy of a guitar playing suggesting from my uncle - Guitar Generation #2 who was made by grandpa [Guitar Generation #1 in the family], to take classical guitar lessons). While playing in classical style gives me an extended hand span on the neck (great for some chords, and lead guitar passages - as for being able to hang/hook my thumb over the neck for blooze bends, I've never been much of bender playing-wise), it makes thin necks uncomfortable. Unfortunately, Gretsches with chunkier necks (or at least a Medium C - .850" thick or more at the 1st Fret), are very few and far between. So after about 10 years of fighting thin necked Gretsches, I said good-bye to them. I'd love to have another Gretsch hollowbody (and what would make things even better - for it to NOT HAVE A BIGSBY [I hardly ever use wiggle sticks, and Bigsbys are a pain to re-string]), but every time I try out Gretsches at my favorite local guitar shop (which happens to be a Gretsch dealer), they all have the same old thin U-shape necks. As it is, I can't afford a ProLine Gretsch nowadays. To make matters worse, the same guitar shop I just mentioned, recently got in a used 2005 Gretsch Country Club. Like an idiot, I played it, and as I thought, being a relatively early Fender era Gretsch, the neck is just chunky enough to keep my fretting hand happy. Oh, and to pour gas on the fire, I played the 2005 Country Club through a Mesa Boogie Mark V - great clean tones, and tones of glorious dirt tones! At $3000 used, I can forget about buying it. Oh well.
I have one metallic purple. Love it. I gig with it all the time. I especially love it for rhythm work in a 2 guitar situation. So far the only upgrades I’ve done is replace the tuners with Graph Tech locking tuners. A must. They drop right in. I replaced the spring with a Squishy spring and I put a roller bridge in. Stays in tune pretty good. I’ll add some warble to the chords and rarely have to retune much in between songs.
I recently tried a Gretsch for the first time, and was pleasantly surprised! The neck felt similar to a Gibson, and the filtertron pickups sounded incredible.
Amen to the Hallelujah!!!! I own three!!! I grew up in the same neighborhood as Brian Setzer, we're the same age, and he's been doing his rockabilly thing since way back, and an inspiration and an absolute master as a player. ( You cant hide sloppy on a Gretsch!!) When Gilmour sold off 120 guitars, and interviewer asked him, " Is there a guitar you wont sell? " David's response was, "....My 1958 Duojet. " There are videos of David playing that Gretsch from the 80's all the way into the 2000's. I've been a Gretsch player since the 70's. I own 3 Gretsch's right now. . 2 Anniversaries ( 6118T-LTV-125 in Jaguar Tan and 6118T-LTV-120 in Bamboo Yellow ) and 1 Duojet. (G6128T The Duojet is one of my all time favorite Guitars.)
I have this same model in speyed maple and I removed the tension bar on the bigsby and replaced it with a bricksbiggsfix. It made it so much easier to play and it stays in tune wonderfully.
I mean George Harrison got into Gretsch guitars for a good amount of time as a Beatle. The lineup of John on his Rickenbacker, Paul with is Hofner and George with his Gretsch on Ed Sullivan is music history.
Literally just got my first Gretsch two weeks ago... a 6128T Player's Jet (single coil)... and as a Les Paul player, I LOVE it! Real spanky, chime'y tone that takes dirt real well.
I have 3 Gretsch’s! A Jim Dandy for knocking around and trying to teach my 8 yr old son, an Electromatic Jet BT, and a 2005ish hollowbody with bigsby and everything. They’re so great!
I have an older Electromatic, and I wouldn't trade it for anything! Gretsch pickups are unique, that's for sure. If you mess with the pole pieces, you can can really dial it in to your liking and make a sound that's unique to only you.
The Gretsch Duo Jet has been my go to for years now. For me the sweet spot has always been middle position (both pickups) balanced with the volume controls. Unless you wanna go full bridge, rip the rest of the guts out, and rock until damnation of course. 😉👍
I got a 5420-tg demo from sweetwater last year. It completely shifted the covers I do…lots of George Harrison and Randy Bachman. Will eventually get to Brian Setzer…I did a cover of day tripper with the Gretsch in one channel and my epi 335 in the other and the combination was incredible…such a beautiful guitar.
Fantastic that you have featured a Gretch. Some years ago, I was selling/trading a guitar thinking I wanted a Les Paul. I ended up with a Gretch DuoJet, which has TV Jones Filtertron pickups. I still have that guitar and it is amazing how good it is for rock. Those pickups are fantastic.
It says gretsch on the headstock, that's authentic enough, don't be hard on yourself because of the corksniffers who flock to channels like this for an ego boost
I own two Gretsches and a G&L. My first Gretsch is a 5230FT, Electromatic Jet. I did some modding to it (changed the values of the pots and tone cap; replaced the bridge with a roller, added locking tuners, then did some cosmetic stuff. She’s my favourite guitar to this date, even after having (more or less) completely rebuilt my G&L, whose previous owner and rewired it into (basically), just a regular HSS Strat. But nothing touches the tone on my Jet. My other Gretsch is a 2655-P90, which plays beautifully, though I’m not crazy about these particular P90s. Don’t get me wrong: they’re awesome for rhythm playing; however, they don’t have quite the sustain I’d prefer for playing lead, even when run into a compressor and boost pedal. Unfortunately, if I wanted to replace them-even with standard P90s-I think I’d have to further rout out the pickup cavities. However, I love my Jet so much that the deficiencies in my 2655 almost don’t matter. I can’t rave enough about Filter’Tron pickups. Even the bog-standard ‘blacktop’ Filter’Trons sound dead gorgeous. So many people, when they buy a Gretsch like mine, their first move is to upgrade the pickups. I feel absolutely zero desire to do so. I like them just as they are. I found that the tone I wanted didn’t require touching the pickups, but instead swapping out the pots. IiRC, I swapped out the 250k volume pots for 500ks,and I swapped out the 500K master volume for a 1M. I also cut a little of the brightness of the pickups by switching from a .047uf tone cap to a .033uf. Now she’s a little more gutsy and middy. If I need more brightness, that’s why I own a G&L.
I have this guitar is azure metallic blue and it is one of my favorite guitars now. The only thing I changed on mine was to add locking tuners and change the pickups to TV Jones classic filter'trons. Gretsch makes really nice guitars at an affordable price.
Welcome aboard. My Gretsch 5220 was meant to be a Les Paul. But I’m so glad I went this way. Chambered for lightness, great sound and just £400/$500. Unbelievable value.
Fell in love with Gretsch Guitars a few years ago. Now have a few and that's all I play. I even dropped some EMGs in one of the solid body style ones for the heavier stuff. I like the 24.6 scale length as I've got short fingers. lol They def deserve more love than they get.
I have a G5655T QM just like this one, only in the amber color they call speyside. Absolutely love the unique tones available on these. Some say Bigsby equipped guitars won’t stay in tune. As long as you take the time to set it up properly, lube the nut, and don’t go crazy with the Bigsby, it holds tune very well.
I'm a big fan of Gretsch guitars. I have a few. Before I found your video, I was looking at this exact model online. I keep thinking about buying one. The necks are comfortable in my hand and I like the thin bodies. They're resonant enough where I'd play it unplugged a lot.
I currently own a G5422T-140 and a G5427T, and both are great! These are great for any genre, not only rockabilly. Also, these guitars are very popular among praise and worship. I would suggest giving these a try!
I like Gretsch. But, I only like the ones made in Japan. Or, a Masterbuilt one. I have the Silver Falcon and the thing has a Bigsby and it DOES NOT GO OUT OF TUNE 🎵. The thing is bulletproof. And the action is amazing.
Yamaha and Gretsch guitars are probably my favorite. They both have an interesting budget line which actually play and sound really well and Gretsch with those filtertron pickups just sound hifi and full. Its pretty much the only pickup I like without effects. With PAF style humbuckers, I always tend to dirt them up at least a bit for cleantones
I got a G5220 last year in a trade (swapped a Jazzmaster for it I wan’t really feeling) and was super impressed. It has a mahogany body and neck with a maple cap just like a Les Paul but it’s chambered and more “airy” sounding than a standard LP. It’s a touch darker and warmer as well. It’s like a kinder, gentler-sounding guitar when compared to it’s Gibson counterpart. I really dig it. Gretsch guitars just feel “friendly” if that makes sense. Every time I pick it up it’s like shaking hands with an old buddy.
When I decided to try a Gretsch I HAD TO go for a Filtertron model. I got a G5232T , an 'affordable' Gretsch. I was not disappointed. I DO recognise that Broadtron pickups sound 'different' But it had to be Filtertrons for me.
In lieu of a Gretsch (which I was tempted to get last year), I sprang for a Burns replica of the Brian May Red Special (in black and gold instead of red and black). Like most Gretsch guitar and bass models, the Special is semi-hollow and lightweight. However, it’s got 3 pickups instead of 2 and full access to all of them.
I've got a similar Gretsch myself, it's an Electromatic hollowbody in orange stain and its double-cut. Same pickups as the one in this video, same body depth too. It's a great playing guitar, although I do hope I can get a Duo Jet in silver sparkle someday. Gretsch guitars are awesome at any price point, this is a great guitar to give away.
I've got one in azure with gold hardware. They need a little work to get to great but they are pretty sweet out of the box. I swapped in TV Jones pups and did some nut clean up and a roller bridge to make the bigsby more functional.
Bought a Gretsch Jet, the Electromatic version used and a Gibson Les Paul at around the same time and the Les Paul is being sold and the Gretsch gets played everyday. Just spectacular quality in every way for 1/7th the price
Hi there. thanks for watching all the videos. I announce the winners in a pinned comment on the giveaway video as well as make a community post in the community section about who won :) If you go back to the Ibanez giveaway we just did you'll see a pinned comment announcing who won and same with other giveaways
I ordered a Streamliner because I played a double-cut version at a guitar store and liked it. I found a good deal on a single-cut model, 2410 maybe?? 2420, something like that. But I sent it back (to Pro Audio, seems legit) because it "wasn't quite good enough." This one looks like a keeper. Thanks to Robert and Sweetwater ... I'd love to play it.
I believe you may be right; it is time to give some love to Gretsch! I've been looking out for one for good while now🤩, but I still can't decide between full hollow or not, or Bigsby or not...🤔
I’ve got a mid grade Electromatic Jet and a high end Broadkaster Jr. from Japan. I’m saving for number 3. A Gretsch Penguin. Custom shop guitars aside I’ll put a Japanese Gretsch against anything American made in its price range. I’ve got a Gibson SG special and an American Tele Deluxe and that Broadkaster Jr blows them away. The 24.6 scale length is super comfortable and the Gretsch sound is unmistakeable.
Every Gretsch I've ever handled has been superb. I didn't like the Broadtrons though in my 5220. I put in a set of real Filtertrons (you'll need different pickup rings) and it became everything I ever could want in a Gretsch. Very unique compared to my Tele or LP.
@@Little960 we even did the same pickups! I don't understand honestly why they would put basically regular humbuckers in it in the first place. I guess it's to appeal to a wider crowd but in my mind when I think about Gretsch I think about that classic sound.
@@jfiery My guess is that it's probably a cost issue. Since they're made in China they probably use some more generic pickup used in other guitars and they put a Filtertron style cover. Don't get me wrong the Broadtron is still a good pickup but for me it sounds more like a Les Paul than a Gretsch.
Broad-tron are humbuckers. Filter-tron has less winding and a bigger magnet. If you want LP sound go BT if you want Gretsch twang go FT. Both are good pickups, just different sound.
In countries apart from the US and Europe, having a grestch can be difficult because of the parts in the guitar, the aftermarket services are really bad I was recently torn between a Gretsch and Les Paul. I went in for a Les Paul the parts market is great. Gretsch and Duesenberg are So So
I've heard so many opinions about newer Gretschs build quality and never found one in a local store so I've been hesitant to order one online but I love the look and sound. If Robert says it's okay I've got to give it a go.
I bought me a Richard Fortus (Guns Roses Gretsch and wow . What a stunning rock beast compare to my Murphy les Paul’s and strats . I totally agree what your saying .
I had to sell my heavy guitars because I became disabled with a bad back. I still play out but a nice six pounder would be beautiful.. That guitar sounds killer and you’re playing has gone up several notches.
When I was young, having a Gretsch one day was my ambition. Now I am old and can afford one, I no longer need one. However, I do have an oddball LP copy with slightly disguised Filtertron copies, so the classic Gretsch sound is on my palette
everyone I ever knew who had a Gretsch always said a similar thing. They got it because it had a sweet/unique sound at a great price. However, none of them ever actually played them in studio or at gigs, and after a few yrs some were just looking to get their money back
Yes!!!!!! Just got one of their solid bodys and it's easily my favorite guitar. Better tones than I've gotten from anything else. Love it definitely has a different sound
WE HAVE A WINNER!!!!
Congrats to Mark te Mebel on winning the Gretsch :)
Sorry for the delay posting I was taking a but of a break from social media but back at it now.
I can't stop playing it since it arrived. Had my first gig with it last weekend. Love the clarity, cuts through so well. The perfect guitar for my indie rock band

Fellow lefty Gretsch enthousiast here :)
I started with that airline silver 5230, and recently added a (2003) 6120 from Terada :)
The only way PRS is the middle of Gibson and Fender is in scale length 😂. A typical PRS (Custom) is wayyyy closer to a Gibson
Let’s hear it for us lefties !
PRS is midway in feel, but not sparkly enough in tone to be far off from Gibson
I hate fender. And Les Paul’s . All hype. Fenders QC control went to crap literally. Op’s to much counterfeiting and hype with them. That guitar set up exactly right will be better then a Lp imho .
Thanks for the vid. Malcom Young played a Gretsch, and had the best classic rock rhythm tone ever.
Indeed!
And lead tone, on the first two albums ( Australian release) where he traded riffs with angus

Rat Rod, huh? Hadn't heard of that one -- gonna have to look it up. What is the finish called on this one? Beautiful...
Me 2 too! I have the orange one and a White Falcon.
Gretsch is awesome! Filtertrons are extremely underrated
I have a 5222 & a 2655p-90. Very pleased with both
☺️ 👍👍
I have a G5427TG in an incredible dark blue color. With the gold hardware, it is just stunning. I bought it to play jazz but it can really do just about anything.

My Favorite Mistake, one of my go to riffs when checking out any guitars with a nice twang to them. My fave Sheryl Crow song 😁
Me too!
Same here.
The way your shredding on that thing, it sounds like a Gretsch 5150! Seriously, sounds awesome!
Glad there is a contest for this bad boy. Amazing tone options.
I have that same one just in orange. Love it too. Have 4 other Gretschs too.

Well, I did pick up a Gretsch Electromatic Double Jet. Not quite the real deal, but it plays Down Payment Blues with THAT SOUND, so I’m happy.
It says gretsch on the headstock, that's authentic enough, don't be hard on yourself because of the corksniffers who flock to channels like this for an ego boost
I need that double cut Mint Green Grestch! They make way fun , classic looking Guitars🎉

Has anyone won this guitar? Kingsumo says the prize will be awarded 6/6/24 but as of today, 6/7/24, it says a winner hasn’t been picked yet.
I came here to ask as well

Sparkling, beautiful tones indeed. Need one in my life. Great playing too!
What a gorgeously piece of music was that intro. Hope it develops into a complete song.

Welcome to the Gretsch family! Loving my G6120CMHOF and my G5220T FT Jet. That Sweet Tea burst is sooooo smooth.
I got my first Gretsch last week and it has completely revolutionized my playing and approach to playing. Truly a wonderful instrument. 🙌
I'm a big fan of Gretsch guitars. I have a few. Before I found your video, I was looking at this exact model online. I keep thinking about buying one. The necks are comfortable in my hand and I like the thin bodies. They're resonant enough where I'd play it unplugged a lot.
What a beauty - opening demo was superb!
Truthfully, I never thought I'd see a Gretsch, they're seriously overlooked guitars.
That’s a great looking guitar and loving all the pickup position possibilities.
Was out for a curry on Thursday and we were talking about these style guitars 🎸…. Definitely an inspiration to look more into them 👍🏻👍🏻
I've got a similar Gretsch myself, it's an Electromatic hollowbody in orange stain and its double-cut.
I have an Alpine Green 5622T and I absolutely love it
I have 3 gretsch guitars, G5422tg, G5420t and a double cut pristine P-90
They are amazing guitars, very much over looked.
Bought a Gretsch Jet, the Electromatic version used and a Gibson Les Paul at around the same time and the Les Paul is being sold and the Gretsch gets played everyday. Just spectacular quality in every way for 1/7th the price
My Gretsch Junior Jet is one of my favorite guitars to play. It has a p90 in the neck position.
Great guitar. Love it. By the way - i watch EVERY video and i can't recall ever seeing a winner announcement over the last 3 years
Hi there. thanks for watching all the videos. I announce the winners in a pinned comment on the giveaway video as well as make a community post in the community section about who won :) If you go back to the Ibanez giveaway we just did you'll see a pinned comment announcing who won and same with other giveaways
Have not heard back from the winner yet. Will announce once we get a response.
I did respond? Or was I second in line?
@@marktemebel Hi Mark I made this post a few weeks ago :)
Did the same thing with my 5220. I put a set of TV Jones Classic...amazing
@@Little960 Im sure your on to something.
@@Little960 and I agree totally about it sounding more like a Les Paul than I think a Gretsch should sound like
Bro your compositions are always so amazing. Love it
I had one for a bit it was cool you can play anything on them, I never really bonded with it and sold it.
I dig that jam in the beginning!
Broad-tron are humbuckers. Filter-tron has less winding and a bigger magnet. If you want LP sound go BT if you want Gretsch twang go FT. Both are good pickups, just different sound.
Have a 5220 Electromatic Jet in Jade Grey. Absolutely fantastic. Dollar for dollar, one of the best values out there. Sounds and plays beautifully.
Any info on who the winner is? The contest site says “Winners Have Not Been Picked Yet. PRIZES AWARDED: JUNE 06, 2024 11:30 PM”
Sounds great! Love that girth to chime ratio!
Dude, your tone and playing here just rocks!! Gracias amigo
In countries apart from the US and Europe, having a grestch can be difficult because of the parts in the guitar, the aftermarket services are really bad
I was recently torn between a Gretsch and Les Paul. I went in for a Les Paul the parts market is great. Gretsch and Duesenberg are So So
Gretsch's Filtertron-like pickups really are pretty dang sweet and they have three of the best fretboard inlays (Big Block, Halfmoon and Art Decos)
I've heard so many opinions about newer Gretschs build quality and never found one in a local store so I've been hesitant to order one online but I love the look and sound. If Robert says it's okay I've got to give it a go.
Gretsch loves their long names. I have a cheap one, a Gretsch G2210 Streamliner Junior Jet™Club.
I would love to own a Gretsch for the first time. What a beautiful sounding and looking guitar.
That Gretsch sounds amazing at the end of the video....with your playing of course! 🙂
I have looked at Gretsch guitars so many times. I don't think you can go wrong with any. Love the sound.
I've been looking at a few and have been wanting to add one to my collection.
Just last week I bought my first Gretsch, a 5622. I absolutely, freakin, love it.
That bridge pick up is crazy good 🤯
I got that exact guitar in the black with gold trim last October! Instantly my number 1!!
I love my G5410T rat rod. It is my only hollow body, and probably will be the only one I purchase. I just like it that much.
Gretch is so underrated. They are amazing guiatrs
Wow, that's a gorgeous instrument.
I do need a Gretsch. The electromatic range is pretty incredible too. Winning this would be amazing.
When I was young, having a Gretsch one day was my ambition. Now I am old and can afford one, I no longer need one. However, I do have an oddball LP copy with slightly disguised Filtertron copies, so the classic Gretsch sound is on my palette
That is a phenomenal guitar. The scale length is the same as my Les Paul. Pretty sweet...
everyone I ever knew who had a Gretsch always said a similar thing. They got it because it had a sweet/unique sound at a great price. However, none of them ever actually played them in studio or at gigs, and after a few yrs some were just looking to get their money back
It’s absolutely beautiful and sounds great, never really considered buying Gretch but maybe I should
Yes!!!!!! Just got one of their solid bodys and it's easily my favorite guitar. Better tones than I've gotten from anything else. Love it definitely has a different sound
I was looking at this guitar at our local guitar store! Drooling over it, but I dont have 1k to spend on one, the thing is awesome, and gorgeous top!
