    For some reason, I regard your videos as the gold standard. When I watch others, I judge them based on what you would do. I silently scream at them, "You call that a restoration? You literally sanded it down and painted it. Ridiculous!".

    I was totally surprised to hear you speak, when you watch something that is not narrated then you hear the person speak your voice is not what I imagine, you really have s great speaking voice. I am always amazed at your a ability to take on a task an then the end result. THANK YOU I ALWAYS ENJOY WATCHING.

    Interesting, thanks for that. I first watched the silent version, then this one. Its hard to say which one I like the more. If I had to choose, I would favour this version with your vocal comments:
    1) It's extra content, and it's informative
    2) The voice is recorded at the exact right volume level
    3) Just the right amount of speech and information, still not disturbing from watching.

    man, I don't know if I'd want more of these, on one hand the extra info is nice, but these kind of vids are more just mindless hypnotic images of tools and whatnot, it works with minimal narration

      I agree. He's so good at showing what he's doing that there's nothing that _needs_ to be said. It kinda feels redundant if he explains what you can already see. But maybe I feel that way because I'm used to his videos without commentary.

    To be honest - I think I like the non-narrated videos better. It is very "meditating" to watch, and also it is kind of the signature feature of your chanel (most other restauration channels have lots of Music and talking).

      Mustie1 or Darren, The best mechanic of TH-cam, I think it's right to describe what you do, even if the visual narrative does the most, in your work requires a vocal comment to specify. You two are my favorite channels.

    Have always loved HTR classic but this narrated version is fantastic option.
    Definitely gave helpful information for the uneducated (i.e. me) to learn the correct part names; get more history on the tool, it's use and the company itself; and more on what your process is.
    Hope you do more narrated versions, really dug it!
    CORRECTION: Might have to become a patron then!

    Good timing on this narrated version. I had a problem reattaching a steel plate on a vise. They used drive screws but your lathe just used brass nails. I'll try that. Thanks.

    Maybe a bit of threadlocker on the tool rest screw would keep it together better? Doesn't seem like it ever needs to come apart, so red threadlocker would be a bonus as it would match the paint!
    I like these narrated videos, it really takes your standard videos to a different dimension hearing you talk about rebuilding these. Meditative vs informative, it's a nice change of pace.

    If your going to fill that tub Eric...
    Then make a fine mesh screen first for it that you can put in the bottom and lift out with some string or summat...
    That way if you drop owt in it...you can easily get it back without having to go fishing or diving...

    Both styles have their merits. I like the ones with commentary simply so I can feed off HTR’s hoard of benchtop lore and received wisdom.

    Great videos. Minor point, but this is not a treadle lathe. Treadle lathes became bench lathes with few if any changes, just a motor was added below or behind the head stock. The look of this lathe is definitely post treadle era.

    Not hating but i like your non narrated videos, your actions speak louder then words, sided with your sence of humor makes for awesome vids..... keep up the good work, just because its old and busted doesnt mean it can't be great again 👍👍 and you prove that one tool at a time.
