Created as a companion video to my series of DISNEY EXPLAINED videos (specifically the 'Evolution of OSWALD THE LUCKY RABBIT'), I take a look at the vocal evolution of Oswald as I compare all of the characters official voice actors over time, including Ub Iwerks, Bill Nolan, Pinto Colvig (Goofy), Mickey Rooney, Bernice Hansen, Walter Lantz, Mel Blanc, June Foray, Dick Beals, Gloria Wood and Frank Welker.

So like Felix, he has no “true” voice. Sometimes he sounds like a kid, sometimes an adult, sometimes a falsetto
I consider Frank Welker's Oswald voice his TRUE Voice.

I’d bet it took a lot of work to do this research. Oswald media can be hard to find. Thank you for helping preserve history and helping people remember this character.
This only furthers Walt Disney's claim that, to him, Mickey Mouse is a symbol of independence... after losing Oswald to Universal and creating Mickey as a mascot for his own studio, Walt gave HIS OWN VOICE (mainly the head-voice version) to the mouse for the remainder of his life, and his workers kept their good boss's spirit alive by finding Mickey several sound-alike voices up to date. Universal Studios, on the other hand, didn't care as much about quality at the time... they just wanted to get a quick buck on the tightest budget possible, which not only caused Oswald to lose his charm, but go through various "voice cracks" due to constantly changing voice actors, though on the plus side these voices throughout history were practically an experiment to find the lucky rabbit's signature sound.
I don't know who would do the voice of this lost-and-found character after Frank Welker, but I believe what he's done is perfect... that almost teenage pitch with an adult's weathered tone is THE voice for Oswald, especially when compared to Mickey's high-pitched "squeaky" vocals with a speech pattern that hints that he's trying a little too hard to be the straight man. It is the perfect contrast!
I love how Frank Welker's Oswald says "I'm no detective" because if you don't know, Frank also voiced both Scoob and Fred in Scooby-Dooby-Doo!😅

I love how absolutely cursed those post-Disney Oswald cartoons are. The way his voice changes so frequently is so disorienting.
Pinto's voice goes so many different directions that makes it cursed on its own. That "you ain't seen nothing yet" line sounded like a child.
The designs change drastically for Oswald as well. It is incredibly weird and very jarring.

I recently found four of the lost voice actors, specifically (1932-1938), thanks to Wikipedia. These voice actors include the Droopy Dog creator, Tex Avery, Andy Panda actress, Margaret Hill-Talbot, Woody Woodpecker and Looney Tunes actor, Danny Webb, and Petunia Pig actress Shirley Reed.
We are super close to finding all these actors and actress

Megatron voices Oswald?
He sounds like a minecraft villager rn 7:16, 7:22, 7:24, 7:26, 7:27
First, I litterally confused oswald for mickey mouse.
There's also the Disney Fandaze 2018 in Disneyland Paris, where both Oswald and Ortensia speaked during one of the shows.
But this is the video I've been waiting for because of the Walter Lantz era.
Frank Welker made Oswald the Lucky Rabbit sound a bit like Modern Sonic the Hedgehog.

How come the ub iwerks was just music? I mean if it was a silent film that makes sense, but why include them if that’s the case?
He did it with Felix The Cat too. He does it with characters from the silent era that have clips of them speaking but we can’t hear them cause it’s silent but the person who animated or inked the speech is responsible for the voice. The music he adds is just to emphasise on the silent era nature

While it's an shame that we may never know who else voiced Oswald in the Lantz era, their contributions to the character can't be ignored. That said, Frank Wekler June Foray, and Mel Blanc are probably the best voices of Oswald along with Mickey Rooney and Pinto Colvig.
Oswald in epic Mickey sounds like Fred Jones from Scooby Doo but a little more squeaky
It's amazing how many variants he went through, and especially odd knowing Mickey Rooney voiced him.
The only one I think is possibly missing is the Disneyland 'Oh My Ortensia' performance, which apparently he was voiced by Jess Harnell.

Dang, we had to wait 1 year for this. But it was worth it! Amazing job as always Dave!!! For me, I think Pinto Colvig, Mickey Rooney, one of the unknown artist (The one where he screamed and was looking for a Doctor!), Benice Hansen, Mel Blanc and Frank Welker. But I think Frank takes the first place for me.

back than cartoons had no dialogue so that they were more plot driven for audience and because it was more easier and faster, but when time went on they started to think more about giving Voicing to characters but non of them had any Trademark voice until the mid 1930s.

Frank Walker and Pinto Colvig are the best ones hands down (in my opinion, at least..)

As I’ve noted to others in the comments - the original Oswald video didn’t perform very well on original release. It was also more heavily focused on his Disney heritage and not his time at Universal. It was also difficult to track down many of the Universal shorts.
I’ve had many, many requests for one since then, so it was finally time.

Interesting that now the only outstanding Disney characters absent from Voice Evolutions are Horace Horsecollar and Clarabelle Cow. I wonder if you'll ever finish filling in the gap? I think their voice history is fairly more modern though. I don't know if they ever talked in their classic era as such.

Oswald is a relative unknown. The original video did not perform very well when first uploaded. Many of these shorts were hard to accrue.
A year later, I’ve had a lot of requests for it, and I finally found the time to put one together.

You didn't do bluto and olve in popeye and I didn't get why you skip it like this one.
Because the original Popeye video was focused purely on Popeye, not the ancillary characters. That video was also an enormous risk, as was the original Oswald video, and I didn’t want to spend an extra week on videos that wouldn’t perform well. I’ll possibly return to them one day.
