Created as a companion video to my series of CARTOON EVOLUTION'S DISNEY EXPLAINED videos (specifically the 'Evolution of LUDWIG VON DRAK'), I take a look at the vocal evolution of Ludwig as I compare all of the characters official voice actors over time, including Paul Frees, Wayne Allwine, Albert Ash, and Corey Burton.

Velma isn't a scientist. Or is she in that in that sucky series where she's non-white? Well, USUALLY, she's not anyway.
Albert Ash really did his voice well. I was surprised
This was a Corey Burton prototype voice he did.

I see that Burton's Ludwig also seems to go higher or lower in pitch depending on what demographic the show is aimed at. I'm an editor at Disney TVA and whenever Jim Cummings does Pete, he has to ask which Pete they want. Lighter and nicer for the preschool shows or meaner and gruffer for the all ages stuff. One time he gave us TWO full reads with both Petes for the thing we were working on, and we had to ask the execs which version they wanted. I just felt bad that Jim had to record everything twice!
That's impressive but it's Jim Cummings he's really talented. It must be really fun to see him recording Pete😄😄😄😄.

Paul Frees has the best foreign accent in cartoons not only Von Drake but Boris Badenov as well and he an american born in Chicago.
I love Paul Frees
He was an impressionist in vaudeville as well
Seeing Ludwig von Drake as a Ghostbuster in that "Bonkers" clip is just perfect!
As for the voices themselves, I'd say Paul Frees and Corey Burton are tied for the best performance. Although Albert Ash did a solid job when he played the character, and Wayne Allwine's performance was alright.

Today I learned that Mickey Mouse wasn't Wayne Allwine's only Disney role
But Mickey is Wayne’s most iconic role.
I grew up only really knowing of Corey Burton's Ludwig and haven't seen any of the classic era Ludwig cartoons until I was much older. Paul, however, I was quite familiar with through Jay Ward cartoons. Now, his Ludwig, it's obvious he's the same actor, but I've noticed something. He has a much different sound and delivery as a Disney character than he does as a Jay Ward character. Something that's a little more gentle and slightly slower paced, something befitting of a Disney cartoon. As opposed to the shorter, sharper, quicker dialogue and delivery famous in Bullwinkle and George of the Jungle cartoons. And I know that's partially down to voice directing, but Paul knew his styles of comedy and which were appropriate.
Paul is just wonderful in the past!
@@mayracordero382No doubt. I'm a big fan of Bullwinkle and the like and he just did such a spectacular job being like 90% of the incidental characters.

Hearing Paul frees doing the voice One last time in 1986 it’s just sad not only because he would die that year, but it really doesn’t sound like von Drake anymore
For me, it's Paul Frees, and Corey Burton!
Will ever do an evolution of Gumball since a movie and season 7 have been proposed.
Interesting thing about Corey Burton, he was apparently an understudy of Paul Frees, which might explain how he ended up becoming the designated successor after Paul's death.
i’m fine with Wayne Allwine’s von drake voice. the accent was fine as separate from the actual voice, and i’m sure it was probably an emergency situation where they couldn’t find an actual person to do it. so they got the best they could at the time.✨
i’m biased because he’s by far my favorite mickey mouse ever, but yeah, i mean he wasn’t really an impressionist. on top of that he just didn’t have the natural voice necessary for von drake. he probably had the potential to be a fantastic impressionist though! he was a great foley artist.
anyways yeah, it was a temporary voice and it was fine for just that, a one off thing, nothing permanent.
The voice of Ludwick Von Drake that I am familiar with was Corey Burton.

Ludwig Von Drake is one of my favorite Disney characters outside of the 5 fab five. I never did know that he was one of Walt’s last creations, I just love his energy and he never fails to make me laugh even to this day!

The circuit is now complete. In all four duck themed shows, Ducktales twice, Quackpack and Darkwing Duck I’ve seen the professor.

Honestly Ludwig Von Stakes voice and ramblings always reminded me of my fave actor Brother Theodore!❤ Always loved his rantings and guest show appearances which eventually led to my favorite role, Gollum, by Rankin Bass productions!❤

Frees had the most consistent voice. Burton did a pretty good job in some cases but others he was far too high pitched- I rather expected him to slowly improve his pitch but he was all over the place. It seems like perhaps he tried to tailor his voice to the individual setting Von Drake was in?

Actually Ludwig was not Corey Burton’s longest voice role. Captain Hook was. He voiced Hook in 1982 replacing the late Hans Conreid who died that year and he didn’t start voicing Ludwig till 1987. Though I do agree that if I had to pick a favorite voice role that he did Ludwig would be my number one choice.
Mad Hatter was even longer, starting in 1979

Wayne Allwine may have been a beloved legend for voicing Mickey Mouse, but his Ludvig Von Drake was.....not good.
Wow Wayne Allwine was really bad at Ludwig
They pretty much nailed Professor von Drake, except for Wayne Allwine. No disrespect to him, but he's much better as Mickey Mouse. He did a decent job as the Professor, but the other were better at the role in my opinion.
Paul Frees and Corey Burton are the best Von Drake voices but Albert Ash also was good Wayne Allwine not so much.
