I've had some of the older plastic frame ones with the lead weights. And one of those, a BL2, is one of the smoothest old locomotives on my roster. And the newer split frame ones are really good as well. I think I have one of those around here somewhere, a GP18.
This model doesn't use the springs. It's got solid shafts with work gears and flywheels. But I know the ones you're talking about. I'd look for an early Life LIke GP-38 or GP-40. They'd almost certainly have those springs.

It certainly is. Only thing better would been if it had sound! lol.

You are correct about Walthers..That's before the buy out. I've always had good luck with Life Like locos.
