This is a beautiful film. As a diver, I was thrilled to discover today that Tasmania has giant kelp forests. Thrilled for about 5 minutes. I then found out that the latest news is that these forests have all but disappeared. This is sad news indeed, and likely just the beginning of the devastation climate change will cause to ecosystems around the world.
Hi Rebecca this footage is absolutely stunning. We were just down in Tassie trying to film the Giant Kelp Forests and couldn't find any around Eaglehawk which was really disappointing. I'd love to chat to you about using some of your footage in a new project that we are working on.
It is also disappearing in California. The Seadragons here in Tasmania are disappearing too. - Water temperature on Bruny Island is not warmer, but near the shore the Macrocystis is growing where the water temp. is warmer?
i remember the storm i was at the bay like a week after it happened and there was kelp all over the beach, i really wanted to be able to see that kelp forest too :(
people get full of pride about advances in science, but no one speaks of how the world is being destroyed by those very same advances. They speak of co2 emissions and green house gases, but its not car pollution rather livestock that produce the most co2 methane emissions. (found that one hard to believe but its true) The upper layers of our atmosphere is not affected by neither cars nor cows rather the tens of thousands of planes that fly every day world wide, something analyst tend not to mention. People have high hopes of venturing into the stars and colonizing Mars. But what good is settling on another planet when you cant even get it right on earth. Its well known that the earth would flourish without man. So why cant man live in harmony with the earth? Man calls himself intelligent over all living creatures on the earth, but those creatures live and flourish without man and without any of mans technologies. Man seeks shelter from the harshest weather, but never once considers that the animals endure it all every season. and still theirs so many people that are so caught up in selfishness and greed, that they will readily see the world burn before hindering their means of financial growth and power.

Yeah
Well done. Documenting ongoing/long term environmental change underwater is what Project Baseline is all about, too.

So truly beautiful and such a tragic loss. well done to you. What happened to the sea creatures who lived here?
Fantastic Video and Awareness . Well Done .
Amazing footage - we have shared on our facebook page to help build awareness.
My class watched this for this book called the hidden forest that we are reading...
wouldn't that just mean the kelp habitat is moving more south as it warms instead of disappearing ?
But why are they disappearing cant they do anything about it?
I just wish more people would watch it
I’m a kid but looks awesome
the poor kelp, fish & other sea creatures :(
Beautiful film
