Hey Jonathan, just want to say that your videos are amazing. The way they are presented and the pace of them really shows that you don't need to sensationalize nature in order to appreciate it's beauty. I hope your show stays successful cuz I love it!
jonathan, your photography and clarity of films are better than most other professionals making films for big sponsors. really nice. five stars for you
I am mesmerized by the this incredibly amazing film. Very informative! A paradise right next to the hustle and bustle of a huge city. My compliments to you, Jonathan, and to your team for this wonderful job. Thanks a lot for the video.
I'm surprised you didn't find any Leopard Sharks during your dive. They're only found along the west coast of NA, and kelp forests are their natural habitats.
I am not sure about the habitat. I do a lot of surf fishing and 95% of leopard sharks I caught were from sandy bottom, where kelp cannot grow. When I fish rocky/kelp-y area, the fish I caught are mostly the fish you can see in this video.
I've missed Your Videos Uncle Jonathan.. Hope You make More! :-) And when I grow up,, I want to be a Marine Biologist just like you.. Love you and your show! God Bless!
Fantastic as always used to go to Santa Barbara island and fish sailing from San Diego on a sailboat fantastic fishing and a cute fish every cast. One sail was is during the fluorescent tide that night fishing was absolutely incredible,a giant Fluorescent eel rose up from the bottom .....crazy, thanks for all your videos they're absolutely mesmerizing you are truly an I C O N ! ! !
I am alway's amassed of what nature creates. I new that there was electric heels but not electric ray's that swim like a shark... So many different animal's must be something creating a new one every year. haha. Cannot wait for your ned adventure. Pierre Art is part of nature.
Nuemadisis? I was wondering about that form of air regulation? Wow. Those kelp Forrest are so vital for the environment. Thanks for doing such a video emphasis. Wow why good find! As torpedo ray? Nice music touch to give that encounter moment seem suspenseful. Yes I’m so glad you mentioned how the torpedo ray swam in regards to design. Catalina islands looks fun. I’m glad there no fishing around that area. Giving the fish a better range of feel and famillerization. In the mood for some kelp salad?
Hey Jonathan, I love your videos they are so fascinating. Your videos also help me be more aware of the damage caused by humans. I wish we could unite the governments of the world and ask them to stop spending money on weapons and start spending money on saving the planet. It makes me sad that no one seems to care about the ocean.
BlueWorldTV I do respect your view of aquatic life, as well as your videos. But I also agree with hvf26, in a way that you should make mire videos, but please go at your own pace with your budget.
Very well made! I love how you kept it completely unbiased and talked about what you observed! Awesome! You just earned a sub! (Subscription, not submarine! Or sub sandwich come to think of it!)
I bet that ray could taze you if it catched ur arm. Its a very interestin creature. Did you escape unharmed and why is that torpedo ray so aggressive towards diver? I mean you touched her booty so she wanted to taze you hahaha but thats not common on sea animals to like really attack. Its fascinating how every single organism has its caracteristicsand a way of behaving. It is inspiring and beutyful. Thanks for bringing the joy and the inspiration we need to keep gooing on following on our dreams... THANX CREW !!!!!
Hey Jonathan I was in Catalina over the summer for a scout trip and we found a really great site down at Cottonwood Beach, you should check it out if you haven't already.
That's where I got certified, ah the memories. For a few years I never saw the entire island, all I knew was casino point how can you go to Catalina Island and not dive? Finally saw the entire island on a golf cart, great views up high
Mr. Bird, your videos have inspired me to take a trip out there and see the diving for myself! so excited to be going and Ill be posting the dives on my youtube!
I go free diving and snorkling off the coast of North Wales and I'd love to do what you do you should try North Wales in Britain it's cold but in summer plenty of things to see like compass jellies!
I love this episode and Catalina has made my dive bucket list. I just wish you hadnt disturbed the ray though - if you only wanted to see her swim, you should've waited rather than cause her to go on the defensive. Ruined it a little for me, but you got your footage. The kelp and garibaldis looked beautiful, great shots.
Laura Beacham I would like to point out that at least we honestly represented the encounter. Other TV programs would leave out the part about tickling the tail and then try to make it look like the animal was aggressively attacking without provocation.
BlueWorldTV That's absolutely true, and I respect that. It's just a shame that filming puts so much time restraints on things, and even more so when you're diving, so you couldn't watch her go on her own. I feel guilty even accidentally disturbing things when I dive. You're right though, at least it was an honest representation of the animal, rather than editing it out after! Still a great video, and appreciate the reply!
Awesome videos. How do you finance this lifestyle ? Do you have savings or is it with youtube incones ? Do you have another job or are you just moving from dive to dive ? Would be interresting to know to give some ideas :) Thanks man
Awesome video Jonathan! I really love this video a lot because it’s right by where I live locally and it’s a really excellent episode about kelp forests!! how was being in Avalon, Catalina Island? How was your experience in the town of Avalon and even just diving there? Also, I didn’t even know of a dive park there until I watched this episode all those years ago. Now every summer I go here to snorkel and dive. It’s like the tradition or the thing my family does. Last time I was there, I saw a pod of Dalls Porpoises 🐬 surfacing right off the Avalon harbor. Catalina is truly a wonder. It’s an hour from home. I’ve dove the dive park, kayaked..even went parasailing. I love how well kept it is and it’s unique to its kind. I’m going back on the 29th of October to help my dad out for his race. I’m really happy they opened their historic casino theater back up to watch movies. How many times have you been to Catalina? And lol did you end up getting their Antonio’s Pizza 🍕?? The garlic and pepperoni pizza is the bomb…I get it on porpoise every time, it’s so good.
You get it on Porpoise! Love what you did there! I have only been to Catalina twice. It's a great place to visit. Lot's of fun. I love the golf cart culture.
runningwithdrinks So here's the funny thing...you would imagine that the "torpedo ray" would have been named after the torpedo weapon. Nope! Other way around! From Wikipedia: "The weapon known as the Torpedo was named after this genus, whose own name is derived from the Latin word meaning "numb" or "paralysed", presumably the sensation one would feel after experiencing the ray's electric shock."
Amazing video. Love it. It may be interesting to mention California sheephead, which is visible from one of the clips here. They change gender/color, etc., which is quite an amazing. They also taste really good but that's probably beyond the point of this vid :)
soundiscomforting On this video it was a Sony FX7 in a custom made Ikelite housing using a Fathom SWP44 wide angle lens. Since camera technology is always changing, we are always upgrading cameras too. We are currently using the cameras and housings featured in this vid: th-cam.com/video/QOZnUKO6KEU/w-d-xo.html
Hi jonathan, quick question. Are you from Massachusetts because your always in Massachusetts, I am from ma and I am really in to marine life, I am in eight grade and i love ur vids please don't stop making them

@@BlueWorldTV lol 😂

This Knowledge about Kelp Forests helped me with my Homework.. Thanks Uncle Jonathan!!
jonathan, your photography and clarity of films are better than most other professionals making films for big sponsors. really nice. five stars for you
I'm disappointed that the *torpedo* ray did not launch an actual torpedo... :l
So lame!! ;-)
I am mesmerized by the this incredibly amazing film. Very informative! A paradise right next to the hustle and bustle of a huge city.

Hey Jonathan Bird I love your channel I always wanted to go scuba diving but I'm not old enough to go scuba diving with you I'm only eight
I've been waiting soooo long for another one of your videos!
More videos! I'm almost been through them all, great work and much respect
The ray is like "bring it man... I'll cash that check for you"
Guess that ray wanted some personal space
Thank you, I am really enjoying your videos
Another awesome episode!
Never stop what u are doing it is GREAT l love your videos 😁😁😁😁😁👍👍
I'm heading to dive the Kelp forest this summer so excited
i hate the kelp forest (spongebob refrence)
Why do you hate the ocean
6:06 lol ur making me hungry, i'm literally gonna go eat.
Thank you BlueWorld 🙇
5:38 what's wrong with the fish's eye
Nothing. Many fish have what appears to be a green pupil when light hits them the right way.
great video as always! the only problem is we need more of them! haha
hvf26 Our production schedule is limited by our budget and my available time. It takes a couple weeks to make each segment.

Saw the ray and said hope this guy don't end up like that crazy Australian guy 😅
Do a segment on a freshwater place, Maybe the Amazon River or Lake Malawi?
Bob The Walrus How about the St. Lawrence River? Jonathan Bird's Blue World: Saving the Sturgeon

beautiful videos like this don't get 1M views? I feel pity for this world
I have dove off Catalina and saw pretty much everything you did
1) the torpedo ray looks so elegant swimming like that.
2) why you use rebreather for this dives?
3) how much pain you felt from the ray?
Not a rebreather....just a double hose regulator!

Try to get these amazing things on National Geographic it looks amazing.
Thanks for uploaded. I enjoyed your video :)
looks amazing. were you concerned about Great Whites in this area?
jmpicturefly The thought crossed my mind, but there weren't any sea lions or seals around where we were diving, so a pretty low chance of seeing one.
Kelp forests are actually a refuge from Great Whites, since they're open water creatures.

I have a question, does sharks have play time like dolphins do?
