Li Hongyi's acting is kind of expressionless and unemotional, but it does suit the character and he's VERY pretty to look at so I don't really mind all that much XD One thing I really love about this drama is that all the women are just as powerful and respected as the men (the only female character that isn't a super badass martial artist is that way because of a congenital heart condition, but she ends up being super helpful with her smarts instead)--no childish, clumsy or incompetent women here that need to be saved all the time, it was so refreshing.
I agree this is a drama with strong and smart women. They are not the focus as the men but they're not damsels in distress or childish weak women with squeaky voice.
I think he studies his characters very well and does not act like other actors that seem to have learned their faces from other actors. Look at him in Love better than Immortality. He played a devil, then fake brother and a romantic lead and how all those where different from each other.
Personally, I didn’t mind the expressionlessness in the beginning because his character is supposed to be a little mysterious, cold and arrogant, stingy, I think that was portrayed quite nicely. I definitely read that he has a lot of pride and that aspect of his character is pretty clear foreshadowing on his role if announcing that whole thing about langya wang and the big emphasis on the sixth prince was not enough for y oh to immediately make that connection. However I do have a criticism. I think that because in the beginning he was playing xiao we, who is stingy, and mysterious, all knowing, and disallusioned, contrasting our other male lead, lei wujie, it definitely worked. But as he was pushed into the second role of that character, xiao chuhe, the noble, righteous, sixth prince, who was brave, he was carefree, he was talented and of upright character. I know it was a whole thing about the character changing after being kinda betrayed by or losing the people who he respected. But There was also a thing about how he didn’t change. I think as he regained his role as the sixth prince, the expressionlessness didn’t work as well anymore. He is still kind of arrogant. He is still disillusioned but his acting doesn’t match his actions anymore. He is now being righteous, he wants to save tianqi cheng, he wants to protect his friends, but his acting still stayed the innkeeper who was chasing a guy cuz he owed him money. Some expressions of nuanced anguish and a little more small foreshadowing through his expression when he is with his friends, how he cares about them, and how much he fears seeing them die before them. He can maintain some of his xiao se, but I want to see more xiao chuhe. I want to see this person who was loved by the kingdoms so much, who was noble and righteous, I don’t want to see it just from his actions but the actual acting. Also, his cp with sikong qianluo, was wholly unconvincing for me. I can somewhat believe she is in love with him, but I can’t believe that he is in love with her. For me it really doesn’t feel like he actually sees her as more than just a friend. Someone who he has to protect and protects him. All the parts where they are like, oh he acts different around her, no, he doesn’t really. Not enough for storytelling purposes. Not that I mind. I’m glad the romance is more of a subplot. Unless the actors and/or actresses have amazing chemistry or it’s centric to the plot, I don’t usually like watching romance as much as I do some cool action or satisfying comraderie. Which blood of youth has plenty. Lmao sorry for the rant
Li Hongyi and Cheng Yi look so similar, I keep doing double takes now when I see them on Tumblr or Twitter, etc. Especially the styling in this drama. He looks *so* similar to Cheng Yi in Love and Redemption. I thought his performance in the final episodes improved greatly, but the stoic-face got old throughout 40 episodes.
I think it's a common trope in this genre to not be obsessed with the throne. in the end whoever has the highest level of cultivation has the most freedom and power.
This series is just a good romp. Ignore physics. Ignore politics. It is just entertaining. (Also, Liu Xueyi with a shaved head. There's a look I wasn't expecting to be hot.)
IMHO this is the best drama of 2023, although it is just january. Perfection!Great plot, amazing actors, awesome cgi, everything I love in a wuxia drama.Terrific!
I really liked this drama a lot.... Most of the problems our Ms X had are related to her personal experience rather than a genuine flaw with the drama itself. In particular the description of the court intrigue section doesn't take into account the source of the drama's story. IMO TBOY was an excellent drama of Its type.
I absolutely love this drama! So good!!! Every episode left me wanting more. And yes I can tell that all the actors and crew worked SO hard on this! Like you can tell while watching it!
I have to say that for me Blood of Youth is great drama and we need to remind ourselves that this is a live action from animation series based on novel of the same name. For the audience target, this drama target the younger audience so for people who already watched C dramas with a lot of politic etc, of course it is seen as child's play but for me it is the right portrayal because it is simple and easy to understand. I didn't watch the anime before and after I watched this drama adaptation, I started looking for the donghua, and as anime lover I greatly appreciated this drama because they made it similar with the animation, from the scenes up to the soundtrack. I also appreciate how they casted young actors to play the young roles because of that I am able to add my favorite actors list with Ao Ruipeng and Li Hongyi, they are adorable. and for the actresses too, now I have expectation for these young actors future careers. So based on the storytelling, CG, fighting scenes, actors, acting, soundtrack, my final score is 9/10. The only thing that upset me is when Tang lian is gone... so sad and what a beautiful fighting scenes too...
I'm pretty late in commenting here but Tang Lian is not dead, u've to watch the special episode where he returns n explains that he was heavily injured and his master hid him before he recovers, i believe he'll return in s2
This is a fun drama for me. Regardless of casting an older guy to play Wuxin; he played it really well. That emotional scene was 👏👏👏. It kind of reminds me of childhood and what a wuxia drama is all about. Adventure and friendship with good fighting scenes. Very entertaining ❤
I truly enjoyed this drama. I think many people criticize it because the actors aren’t as attractive or don’t look like the animation version of it. But It has become my favorite wuxia.
@@kpopmania8186 Because animation season 1 made Xiao Se, Wu Xin and some side characters among the most beautiful animated characters in recent Chinese donghuas. Honestly, Li Hong Yi is not that good looking for me but looks aren't important to me as long as the actor serves the drama well enough.
@@strangersontheinternet Complaints about them being too old and/or not good-looking enough started early on Chinese platforms. Plenty swore not watching the drama due to the cast. Once the drama started airing on Youku, many live (bullet) comments about old and/or ugly along with which traffic celeb would be the best fit and so on. Comments against actress who played SiKong Qian Luo lasted until the end: ugly, not a good match for Xiao Se, big mouth, looks wrong/weird, any other actress in the drama looks better... These comments likely reflect more about the psychological issues of those making them than anything else.
This drama was great for this genre, especially. The main was not just the only focus. There were times when they forgot about characters and the story continued till you almost forgot them. Didn't skip as much but I did watch at 1.25x to 1.5x interchangeably.
They matched the dubbing to the animation that’s why it’s a complete dubbed drama. They wanted to stayed true to the animation to the Tee, and if you compare them you will see many scenes were shot in the same frame and sequence. Personally i enjoyed this drama a lot, i think it’s refreshing cause they focused more on wuxia and kept the politics short and to the point. The producer just recently confirmed season 2 with original casts and i will certainly be tuning in for that next year. update: Mango tv is starting The Young Brewmaster’s Adventure (their parents and master’s story) again, casting melon is currently trending. It will be mainly on Bali DongJun and YeDingzhi(Wuxin’s father) 🎉 note: there’s an animation of this on youku
@@nope1273 yes really!!! they went to a get together recently and celebrated the success (everyone turned up) the producers said they will keep the remaining casts(except the one that died) and will make changes to FL’s styling :) They even mentioned that Da ShiXiong with be the next XueYue city’s Lord lol
I noticed that too: TV series and animation match. I still think the animation has greater impact but really like the TV series in it's own right. Awesome news about season 2 with original casts. Gotta go find and watch that get together.
I was waiting for your review. I loved this drama, I believe that for those who like this genre it is very interesting to watch. As you said, we can feel the care and affection with which it was made. And I was really surprised by this drama
I absolutely loved this drama. The best Chinese drama I've watched in a long long time, in fact. The dubbing, age differences etc. didn't bother me at all, probably because I'm an international viewer. And the "unrealistic" parts of the drama - like Xiao Se not wanting the throne and his brother coming to truly understand and love Xiao Se - only made the drama better, at least for me. I mean, the real world is a shitty enough place. Why shouldn't you dream of a better world even if it is just through a drama? (Maybe it's the anime lover in me asking this question) This drama made me happy right throughout. And I couldn't have asked for more.
I love this channel and as a lifelong English-only speaker (with a language disorder) who loves Mandarin and is struggling with it, I appreciate hearing the correct pronunciations and the use of pinyin-spelled labels.
This is the only live action adoptation of animation that I Will approve I Think. And I was surprised how they selected all the cute actors. Every single actor was handsome and every actress was beautiful no matter whether they were heros or villains. If u had watch the animation, u will definitely love it bcox they tried to film every single scene according to animation. I loved that politics were child play and short. I prefer their sword fight over those creepy hypocrite plotting in palace. So loved it❤❤
When you want to do a live adaptaion from an anime/donghua material. This is how its done. And Blood of Youth did it really good in a way i felt how the actual animation did. Hehe
I'm pretty sure everyone agrees with you that Li Hongyi looks a lot like Cheng Yi haha I keep seeing comments online where they confuse the two actors XD Originally I didn't see it because I am so used to their faces, but the more people point it out, the more I see it. I agree with the points you mentioned and I do think that as a viewer who isn't really good at recalling voices (I can't watch a drama and remember that voice actor is from x drama), I can enjoy it more. I think it's really cool when we can see the passion from the artists shine through the project which makes it more enjoyable. I think as people who watch a lot of dramas, we may be more harsh to point out flaws of a drama and drop it, but once it gives us reasons to be more forgiving (as you put it), we enjoy it more and it's a bit refreshing
As usual, well said, AvenueX! Like you, I am having major flashbacks to NIF's storyline, even with the protagonist loosing his martial arts, but being one of the "wisest" strategists. I also got the feeling that the two male leads had reminisent characteristics of the Untamed duo (minus the BL aspect). That said, I also agree that it has been rewarding watching more unknown actors give it a go! many laughable script & direction choices, but so far, an enjoyable series to get lost in. Thanks as always for your insights!
I think this drama is genuinely made fir the anime fandom. I watched the anime before and was BIG fan and when I heard about the live adaptation was worried however I was pleasantly surprised 🙀 Regarding ML acting I noticed him in another drama "Love better than immortality" and i really liked him there was some sceans made me feel this very young actor will grow up better in future and this drama i think he is still growing. All in all nice drama to enjoy in weekend ☺️
@@just-another-viewer123 possibly the second half of the drama will be disappointing as i still didn't finish yet. However I found first 10 episode or good so far. It's matter of opinion 🙂 I still like anime more but adaptation is not bad. You should see the very disappointing adaptation of another favorite anime of mine " Battle Through Heavens" that gave me a truma 😂
He's also In Wulin Heroes . I think he's a good actor, it's just that, I think fans complain about people looking too ugly or unkempt, do actors struggle with looking pretty while acting or looking ugly like reality. I can't remember which Chinese TH-camr went over this subject but she shared clips of actors and actresses being expressionless because of the judgement of the neitizens. Li Hongyi shows his skills through his eyes. He does a really good job tbh and I agree with you. He will grow into it and one day, he will follow the time of his own horn
Love that title lolllll so tru. When you utilize CG budget the right way. Tencent can be jealous. At first I was like wow a nirvana in fire focusing more on the langya list. Like you said, it reminds me of anime especially the shonen genre where the main goal is “to get stronger to protect what matters to me”, which is a nice distraction from the Nirvana in Fire similarities. Overall I’m pretty happy with how it ends too Zhou zishu voice hits me like a brick lol cuz he’s the only voice I can recognize I was also one of those ppl thinking Liu Xueyi looks kinda too old for the funny Wuxin but his serious acting was so good
I have always loved Li Hongyi's sarcastic roles. I haven't read novels but maybe that is my own preference ''Cold-hearted CEO'' haha. Wuxin's age didn't bother me that much because I loved the bromance but it couldn't develop that much IMO. And oh, how could I forget the Tao Sword Deity? He looked so handsome with a mustache but I felt very bad when he died. The actor playing Sikong Changfeng finally was not the emperor lol. I really loved the innocent character of LW and Tang Lian's gentle nature. The only thing I didn't like was the romance between XS and SQ, looked very forced. The introduction to every new character was justified. I would say, it was a very enjoyable drama for me. There were a lot of moments I could imagine my own scenarios building up in my mind and a lot other where I could feel the feelings.
This is one of the few forty episode dramas I've seen that kept itself interesting all the way to the end..... And I loved that there were so many people I recognized from other dramas!
Watched this from beginning to end over three days. It was so thrilling. I thought the cast and crew did an excellent job. Cinematography was exquisite. ❤❤❤ I was unfamiliar with most of the young cast, but recognized some veterans.
I always love hearing your perspective! It's so helpful before I jump into a drama where I don't understand a lot about the production or the other aspects. There are dramas I would never have put time into without hearing a bit from you first. I definitely still explore and like things outside your videos, but I'm so glad that you cover dramas as a reviewer and offer some sense of standard. it's too intimidating to jump into that big pool of content randomly when I never browsed cdrama before, so thank you so much!
For the first 10 epis I was soo freaking confused like...Why soo may caracters? Who is who? What's the story?Where is the plot going? But then I got hooked soo badly...what a drama it was...main lead's visuals are out of the world the set the casting and the costume uff💞Whosoever designed Li Hong Yi's costume just did justice they looked soo expensive and domineering even the fight scean and caracters felt soo perfect🤗was one of the best Wusian dramas of 2022
Ugh this drama was a delight! Lei Wujie was my bae. The actor did a good job portraying the doe-eyed enthusiam of this character and I fell in love with his cute ponytailed self🥰. I thought I'd dig Li Hongyi, but his frigid face acting didn't hit. Also yes about Liu Xueyi! I love him but gurrl it was a struggle to reconcile his actual age with his character's age; but I grew to love his ridiculously sarcastic egotistic portrayal of the character.
Actually Liu Xueyi was great for the role. The more mature aura was suitable for his monastic background and incredible power. A younger actor would have struggled to be as convincing.
Leí Wujie is also my favorite. I keep rewinding his scenes and laughing again and again. Love him so much. He is my main reason to keep going with the series, although I'm enjoying it all along.
Haha yeees! Liu Xueyi did not look 17 years old, it did blindside me suddenly when Xiao Se was talking about how he had just reached 17 loool. I just scrapped that info off my brain and kept going with another, more convincing age in my head. XD
Actually enjoyed the cutting down architecture part... Harks back to the glorious days of Jin Yong's wuxias with outrageous skills such as Lion's Roar...Gimme more! ;p
The Blood of Youth is the best and classic wuxia I ever watched, I recommend to all wuxia fans. I'm not a fan of wuxia I avoided many wuxia dramas including Jin Yong and dropped SSS/Heroes found them boring. Some are also dirty looking with torn out costumes especially the new one bald headed long braid Ming dynasty wuxia my grandma watched last year but TBOY caught me totally! Not only was the storyline fun and fast pacing but all the fights and CGI effects are impressive, and all the hairstyles and costumes and landscapes are beautiful. I hope they make a sequel! It's better than The Untamed and Word of Honor as a wuxia.
Yes you get it, these people dont, what is with the obsession of making everything dirty, cloth dirty, set looks dirty, extra dirty facial make up for no reason just to look realistic
Thanks for the review, I’ve been waiting for it. To me, the anime-like qualities were a positive thing and I also haven’t watched so many dramas as to recognize the dubbing actors, so I give it the top mark
So far this is one of the Drama I loveeee so much, after Untamed, but because I watched the anime before so it's not that surprise anymore, j just love Li Hong Yi's acting here, not like in other drama I think, he is the best 😘😘😘😘
Thanks, maybe I'll start this after luxuriating in the last few episodes of Meet Yourself. I need to slowly ease back in to the world of strife and conflict while trying to avoid the proverbial punch in the face.
This is such a good drama, I thoroughly enjoyed every single episode and moment of it. It reminds me and gives me the feel of the old Hong Kong wuxia drama . Great adventure and I love spending the time going on this journey with all the main characters. Love it!
Loved it! It was such a fun romp from beginning to end. And they didn’t leave to many loose ends. My main gripe was why they were forcing the romantic pairings between XS&SKQL and LWJ&YRY. There was ZERO chemistry between any of them. So why force it? I just shipped Wuxin and Xiao Se the whole time. 😅
I think it's because of the genre of this story too, so in Japan anime counterpart I would classify this as shounen because it focuses on the story of the trio, Xiao Se, Wu XIn, and Lei Wu Jie. Romance is not a main thing, that's why it felt lacking.
The throne is like the family business. There are always family members who don't want to completely inherit or be in charge of the family business, want to strike out on their own or do their own thing. Lang Ya Wang and Xiao Se didn't want the throne. Mu Chun Feng didn't want to inherit the family business empire. Li Han Yi, Lei Wu Jie and their mother didn't want to be stuck in one place making swords. The novel might contain a bit more court intrigue and definitely much more bloodshed, Chi Wang did unleash a massive army of Yao Ren on the capital. Drama simplified a lot due to budget constraints. As for dubbing, I'm familiar with most of these voices actors from audio dramas and donghuas. If I can't "process" their voices, there will be much less c-ent content to experience. Drama used the same dubbing directors as donghuas. Apparently voice actors were recast/shuffled around in roles probably because their voices didn't "match the faces". Xiao Se, Lei Wu Jie and SiKong Qian Luo were dubbed by people who didn't participate in donghuas. One voice actor not only kept his donghua roles but got at least 3-4 other roles in the drama. By the way, actor who played the chaebol did dub himself. Drama "League of Gentlemen" airdropped on Monday. Song Wei Long dubbed himself. For period drama dialog, his Mandarin pronunciation leaves lots of room for improvement. I've watched Youku's Li Hong Yi and Au Rui Peng "fun" videos. Li Hong Yi has speech habit/pattern similar to Song Wei Long, and his voice sounds mature and maybe kind of "street". So... He plays the often exasperated straight man 2nd ML in BL-adapted cdrama Feng Huo Liu Jin. If the no new BL-adapted drama ban lifts and if he works on his line enunciation and line delivery before then, he should be able to dubbed himself well enough.
Im fine with Li Hongyi’s acting, he’s a charming Chinese Prince for me. lol. His dubbed voice is just Ok, it suits his Aristocratic elitist personality. I think Li Hongyi also has nice voice in real, I think he sings, it says he used to be SM Ent Korea idol trainee. what’s cringing is the voice of 7th Prince Chi’s close-in bodyguard, its like a member of Snow White’s Seven dwarfs. hehe. Despite I dont like the Ending coz I want Xiao Se/Chuhe to reign as Emperor, I still love this wuxia Cdrama series, I can watch it over & over again for Li Hongyi and Lei Wujei, Tang Lian, Ruyi, the action, effects, storyline. Its topnotch, highly recommendable!
Blood Of Youth for some slight similarities, reminds me of The Last Air Bender. But overall it was great 👌🏻 Thanks for your review it encouraged me to watch it. 🙏🏻Luv your hair accessories 😍🤩🤗
I am really enjoying Blood of Youth as well! I actually think that the main actors were cast well. Enjoying acting of Li Hongyi, Ao Ruipeng, and Liu Xueyi, Li Xinze, Lin Boyang, and Dai yanni. Rest of the cast are good too! Thanks for sharing your insights Avenue X!
i pretty much agree with your review, especially the tie-ins to the royal family part. CGs that mix wuxia / xianxia are quite enjoyable especially when they did it better than the animation's, you could really see the technology advanced since the release of the animation few years back.
I was interested in this drama because Xue Fei (who played the Changing Ghost/Wuchang Gui from Word of Honour) is in it. I love seeing him act with all his face and his hands.
not only Cheng Yi. Li Hongyi also has semblance to handsome Yang Yang, lovely Zhou Dongyu and Gong Jun’s allure. he’s simply gorgeous! I actually like him as the regal Xiao Se, but he’s too damn sexy as Shangguan Qiu Yue. hehe
I am watching it now waiting on episode 26. I got hooked even though I love romance themes the most. Never seen awesome fighting scenes as in here and I love cultivation themes and their brotherhood. Looks like is for anime lovers and video gamers alike and am neither lol
I would say that "The blood of youth" is my favourite wuxia drama ever it soooo good way better than many of Chinese dramas good storyline , plot twist, character and most important actors and their acting is really very good looking at their age. About that you said that few things were illogical I would say that its fantasy drama what do you even want from it? About ending it's First time I ever like that Male lead doesn't care about power cause I whis that they go around world having experience and joy . So for me the drama is just soooooo awesome Drama I will never ever regret watching it it's too good . I hope it gets more recognition and its going to have season 2 as well. Hope everyone will Watch it 🙏
I think overall drama is good, when you watch dramas don't think much about logics when it's fantasy genre. They did dubbing according to animation so it was justified. With all those dramas we watch these days it's unique and better with good production quality and good looking cast and Nice Plot. I really enjoyed this drama. I loved Wu Xin character it's similar to anime except to age but that doesn't matter it's directors choice, younger actor with bald look may not be solid impression as much as liu xue yi's bald head saved this characters Charm.
oh man I really liked wu xin and it’s not because my name is Xin. feels like he needed more scenes especially with xiao se. xiao se didnt seem to care about the spear girl much but he and wu xin have this soulmate vibe thats like 😮. xiao even dreams of wuxin omg. I am on episode 16 but it is really engaging. loved your review.
first sorry for my english haha this is going to be a long comment. my decision to watch your review after watching the drama is right coz it's better to watch not knowing about the possible negative sides of the drama. I agree with you, it does reminds me of nirvana in fire especially the male lead's character. I also agree that the ml had same expressions, eventho i'm not an expert when it comes to acting there were actually times where i think that his expression on that particular scene doesn't much to the situation, but i had to admit that he looks so cool with that expression i actually pause many times just to stare at his face, and i actually think the voice suit his character so well, it was in sync with his calm expression. what i love the most about this drama is that, it focused on friendship instead of the romance between the ml and fl, there's no such thing as fl or ml sacrificing themselves for each other which frustrates me. in this drama, the fighting scenes are superb! it's so beautiful and almost every episodes have an iconic and funny moments. i super love the costumes. the boys tandem is always my favorite, they're so fun to watch. not really satisfied with the ml's partner since she doesn't give that fl vibes to me, i thought she was just like those spoiled brats daughter of official who keeps chasing the ml, she gives me that expresion when she showed up. their chemistry is also not strong, i ship the ml with boys more than the girls hahaha. this drama is one of my favorite. i really love it, especially the ending, that moment when xiao se walked in the isle with slow motion ❤️
Its a drama where people can destroy armies by themselves and where being Emperor you have to constantly worry about court politics. Most people would rather be awesome, travel with their friends than be stuck at a boring office job.
Avenue X,you know too much.😁I am really enjoying learning from you and this drama. It does remind me of Japanese anime during fight scenes but loving it!💗P.S. Liu Xueyi looks so handsome with a shaved head.😄
Agree with your review for the most part. I made to just past 10 episodes before dropping it. It was enjoyable but just not realistic enough for me and not enough to hold my attention.
The drama is very close to the animation version that why the CG is really needed. This novel setting that their kung fu level have Xian level and god level so the strong enough cut the building.
I completed watching this like a week ago and not gonna lie, for the first 4 episodes, I really didn't understand what was happening. Like there were mamy things, mamy people, and actually details about the world they were showing instead of just lead characters. It does not just focus on the leads but everything and gives a feeling of being in a real world. I really liked this drama and I wish there were more episodes.
Your overthinking this show. It was entertaining, the actors were convincing and the story had a beginning, middle and end. So I would say if you enjoy fantasy costume drama then this is a fun show to watch. 12:55
I LOVED this series - the characters, storyline, CGI. I'm halfway through rewatching it again 🤩. The one thing I really hated was the supposed romance between Xiao Se and Qianlou because there was absolutely zero romantic chemistry between them on-screen. I could totally believe BFFs, but romance? Totally forced. A lot of people didn't like Li Hongyi's acting but I actually thought it was pretty good. It's not easy to hold that "super jaded / over the world" attitude convincingly throughout and the actor's personality seems quite different (he seems to be quite goofy). The comedic timing was also on point.
I am not Chinese, so I watched about only a dozen historical dramas, but I liked very much this one. Amazing nature, architecture, fighting "skills" etc..The main lead with scarse expressions reminded me od WYB or Lan Zhan. The young actors as well as the olders are interesting and rather good.
I also liked the female leads of this drama. Romance is not the main focus and I loved it. Even though the second female lead had a past with the male lead, they both deal it with maturity and there is no scheming among the women. This is actually so refreshing to see. Smart, Powerful, Talented women who don't only chase men but are of actual value. Li Hanyi is another strong character that I really liked. All of these female characters are written so greatly. Well done!
I enjoyed the drama. I think it was entertaining but I agree that the ML had the same facial expression for almost every situation. I enjoyed Lei & the Monk characters. I think everyone except the ML did a good job of acting. 👍💖
Yeah I definitely agree pretty much point by point to your review! I really enjoyed the show when it leaned into the more action and child-like rebellion of the main cast rather than any of the court politics (the NIF parallels made it honestly so painful it would've been better if I could stop myself from comparing the two shows...). The acting was... fine enough to nod my head at and go along with it. I know that this is a drama based on an already established IP, but part of me wishes they mostly skirted around the court politics and stuck with the jianghu storylines since personally, that's where I think the passion and love and fun of the show was at! Like you said, that passion really sold this show, and also helps to sell the main premise of the story: just a whole bunch of teenagers and young adults going out on adventures and trying to find their place in this strange world. The main premise being focused on young individuals I think also makes the over the top action and style more endearing to me. When you have a character like Lei Wujie that is so infectiously energetic and optimistic, it's easy to just accept a sword deity that can slice a pagoda or a literal 13 year old that can wield 7 swords at once. The surprising execution of CGI and such also helps with me buying into the story haha Also, I don't know about anybody else, but I personally *hated* most of the romance... I'm not sure if this is just the writing or if it also has to do with the acting, but the vast majority of the romance just did not work for me. I couldn't be convinced of any of the relationships the show gave me.
My first impression of this drama: it is live action of animation movie. The fights are exciting like I'm watching anime. Although watching several episodes at once make me feel a little bit tired, like calm down people let's not fighting this episode. Wuxin supposed to 16-17 years old. To be honest when I was watching I got a little bit confused of the timeline of events happened. It's because as you say Liu Xueyi doesn't looks teenagers. I thought Wuxin is mid 20.
Really enjoyed this drama very much. My only complaint is the acting from some of the leads but the good by far outweighs any negatives. The theme of youthful vitality and ambition were done well. Characters were written consistently and thoughtfully. The writers did not include lame drama tropes just to have them. Major deaths were written and handled well. Very impressed and really enjoyable. Great job with the fight and action scenes; I didn't know the background of this story but I could tell from the fight sequences that it was anime inspired. It's not about how much money you spend on effects or CGI, it's about having vision.
li hongyi is a great actor..i’ve seen his other dramas and he’s not wooden or expressionless..but xiao se even in the animation is having that laziness he has..li hongyi did well for this kind of character. i still love to see him.
Yahh the fact that Li Hong Yi Looks like Cheng Yi from a certain angle and the resemblance is Uncanny...for those who doubt can check epi 39 around 17:25 it feels like it's Cheng Yi😂
I usually skip all the boring episodes whenever i watch C drama. Blood of Youth is the only drama I've ever watched without skipping. It's that good!!
I truly appreciate these type of no nonsense character dramas. All the characters were refreshing to behold. All in all, it was good and memorable.
Li Hongyi's acting is kind of expressionless and unemotional, but it does suit the character and he's VERY pretty to look at so I don't really mind all that much XD
One thing I really love about this drama is that all the women are just as powerful and respected as the men (the only female character that isn't a super badass martial artist is that way because of a congenital heart condition, but she ends up being super helpful with her smarts instead)--no childish, clumsy or incompetent women here that need to be saved all the time, it was so refreshing.
I agree this is a drama with strong and smart women. They are not the focus as the men but they're not damsels in distress or childish weak women with squeaky voice.
Ditto on everything! Le Hongyi's acting reminds me of WYB in TU. They both played the characters very well.
I just finished this drama and i gotta say i actually enjoyed every episode. I'm starting to like Li honyi more and more 😂
This series is just a good romp.
The only thing that upset me is when Tang lian is gone... so sad and what a beautiful fighting scenes too...
totally agree. because of this I found Ao Rui Peng, he's so cute i have expectation for his career as a young newbie actor after this
I'm pretty late in commenting here but Tang Lian is not dead, u've to watch the special episode where he returns n explains that he was heavily injured and his master hid him before he recovers, i believe he'll return in s2
@@sweety3303 yes I have watched it 🥰
This is a fun drama for me.
Why the actors are very handsome all the actresses are pretty too.
Never read anyone saying they weren’t attractive 😮…. Rather quite the opposite. The sub reddits were spammed at times about the visuals ^^
@@strangersontheinternet the ones that I saw are mostly in Chinese.

It will be mainly on Bali DongJun and YeDingzhi(Wuxin’s father) 🎉 note: there’s an animation of this on youku
really?! season 2 omg! i'm excited already!
@@nudafu633 unfortunately it’s not broadcast, they went to karaoke and took a lot of photos together. News about the second season was released online
@@kpopismypassion bummer. Will just have to wait for 2nd season promos then. Thanks for the share.
So loved it❤❤
I love this drama…I can’t get over it. Also I started became a fan of Li Hongyi after this..I was obsessed with XIAO SE and the storyline.
When you want to do a live adaptaion from an anime/donghua material. This is how its done. And Blood of Youth did it really good in a way i felt how the actual animation did. Hehe
Didn't notice his acting, just loving watching him, cause his so gorgeous looking.... 🥰😍😘
So good!!! If other dramas can do this, wuxia/xanxia dramas would take a big leap forward!
I think this drama is genuinely made fir the anime fandom. I watched the anime before and was BIG fan and when I heard about the live adaptation was worried however I was pleasantly surprised 🙀
Regarding ML acting I noticed him in another drama "Love better than immortality" and i really liked him there was some sceans made me feel this very young actor will grow up better in future and this drama i think he is still growing. All in all nice drama to enjoy in weekend ☺️
really all the anime fans I seen have not like this
@@just-another-viewer123 possibly the second half of the drama will be disappointing as i still didn't finish yet. However I found first 10 episode or good so far. It's matter of opinion 🙂 I still like anime more but adaptation is not bad.
You should see the very disappointing adaptation of another favorite anime of mine " Battle Through Heavens" that gave me a truma 😂
Agree with the actor points.. After all everyone starts with 0 and continuously growing.
I first noticed Li Hongyi in Love Better than Immortality. Blood of Youth is another drama of his that I am enjoying
Overall I’m pretty happy with how it ends too
Zhou zishu voice hits me like a brick lol cuz he’s the only voice I can recognize
I was also one of those ppl thinking Liu Xueyi looks kinda too old for the funny Wuxin but his serious acting was so good
I have always loved Li Hongyi's sarcastic roles.
Blood of Youth was so well done...the character development and every character counts.
Best drama so far ...
Loved all the characters, the Prince and his besties, costumes, fighting not boring ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
For the first 10 epis I was soo freaking confused like...Why soo may caracters? Who is who? What's the story?Where is the plot going? But then I got hooked soo badly...what a drama it was...main lead's visuals are out of the world the set the casting and the costume uff💞Whosoever designed Li Hong Yi's costume just did justice they looked soo expensive and domineering even the fight scean and caracters felt soo perfect🤗was one of the best Wusian dramas of 2022
Great drama, great cast with excellent chemistry. I'm on 29th episode and the last few episodes were the best.
Li Hongyi gives me that bad boy vibe (confidant and flirty). Perhaps it’s because I first saw him in Love Better than Immortality.
I thoroughly enjoyed it this Drama 🎭 finished yesterday. Absolutely exceptional!!
The actor for Lei Wujie is actually the absolute worst one for me. Completely fake and unconvincing acting.
Lei Wujie was my favourite character too! He's what made me love this drama.
Actually Liu Xueyi was great for the role. The more mature aura was suitable for his monastic background and incredible power. A younger actor would have struggled to be as convincing.
Lei Wujie is how all heroes should be. He's so pure.
Harks back to the glorious days of Jin Yong's wuxias with outrageous skills such as Lion's Roar...Gimme more! ;p
Totally agree with you on the acting and the palace arc. And despite that, I still enjoyed it because it’s really entertaining.
So far this is one of the Drama I loveeee so much, after Untamed, but because I watched the anime before so it's not that surprise anymore, j just love Li Hong Yi's acting here, not like in other drama I think, he is the best 😘😘😘😘
yaaahhhhhhh its finally here have been waithing for this for a lifetime now
Thanks, maybe I'll start this after luxuriating in the last few episodes of Meet Yourself. I need to slowly ease back in to the world of strife and conflict while trying to avoid the proverbial punch in the face.
Oh my goodness! You have hit 100K!!! So happy for you!
This is such a good drama, I thoroughly enjoyed every single episode and moment of it. It reminds me and gives me the feel of the old Hong Kong wuxia drama . Great adventure and I love spending the time going on this journey with all the main characters. Love it!
Agreed, storytelling is better than I expected!
Oh thank God, I'm not the only one who was reminded of NIF constantly
The show focus more on the bromance and adventure than the boy/girl relationship. The romances match does not seems to match well
I ship Xiao Se and Lei Wujie.

続きめっちゃ気になってて楽しみにしていました!!
yeah felt that too, i had to skip their parts, like wuxin and xiao se have much more chemi imo
I think it's because of the genre of this story too, so in Japan anime counterpart I would classify this as shounen because it focuses on the story of the trio, Xiao Se, Wu XIn, and Lei Wu Jie. Romance is not a main thing, that's why it felt lacking.
I was waiting for your review since it started airing! absolutely loved this drama!!
I absolutely loved this drama and was waiting for your review!
I really love this so very much, I had a very good time watching this.
I was waiting for your review! One of the better wuxia dramas I've seen recently. Not one bad episode in sight ❤️
I love that ending clap 👏 oh yea that’s the better student 😂😊
I guess I am lucky not to be that familiar with the voice actors.... LOL 😂😂😂
I came to just say that I was so sad it finished, lol. What do I do with this emptiness now? hahaha
I will check this out. I’ve been waiting for a good martial arts drama
I love this drama, one of adaption that really make me feel good about chinese drama
Watching ep 26 and I am crying my eyes out😭 I really like this drama and enjoying it
Blood Of Youth for some slight similarities, reminds me of The Last Air Bender. But overall it was great 👌🏻
Thanks for your review it encouraged me to watch it.
Why are her reviews so spot on 😂🤣😂😂
Loved the ending ost.
I was interested in this drama because Xue Fei (who played the Changing Ghost/Wuchang Gui from Word of Honour) is in it. I love seeing him act with all his face and his hands.
This drama was good!!
not only Cheng Yi.
Hope everyone will Watch it 🙏
I should point out that 17 year olds who looks like 30 yo exists.
Yes, but that's usually because they took up meth when they were 10
@@celinahatton2653 Enviroment helps, but some people just have unfortunate genetics.
I haven't even started this drama, I will this week so I can binge watch it.
oh man I really liked wu xin and it’s not because my name is Xin. feels like he needed more scenes especially with xiao se. xiao se didnt seem to care about the spear girl much but he and wu xin have this soulmate vibe thats like 😮. xiao even dreams of wuxin omg.
Omg congrats on 100k!!! You deserve it so much!!💕🎉
Agree with your review for the most part.
I WAS WAITING FOR YOUR VIDEO 🥺🥺🤩
I am not Chinese, so I watched about only a dozen historical dramas, but I liked very much this one. Amazing nature, architecture, fighting "skills" etc..The main lead with scarse expressions reminded me od WYB or Lan Zhan. The young actors as well as the olders are interesting and rather good.
I cant wait to watch this, the trailer looked very good
I also liked the female leads of this drama.
The surprising execution of CGI and such also helps with me buying into the story haha
Also, I don't know about anybody else, but I personally *hated* most of the romance... I'm not sure if this is just the writing or if it also has to do with the acting, but the vast majority of the romance just did not work for me. I couldn't be convinced of any of the relationships the show gave me.
”This wiring is here"... 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I loved this drama and totally fell for li hongyi in it.
Fun drama this reminds me of 2012 Xuan Yuan Sword 😄
Yahh the fact that Li Hong Yi Looks like Cheng Yi from a certain angle and the resemblance is Uncanny...for those who doubt can check epi 39 around 17:25 it feels like it's Cheng Yi😂
