His eyes are loaded yes! He's incredibly magnetic. And it's not just in this drama. The first drama I ever watched with him was Simmer Down, and he had those eyes there too. Maybe a tad less lustful though, as there's no kissing scenes in that drama.

Absolutely LOVE the insane sizzling chemistry between the main leads and the way they look at each other, they're litterally in my brain 24/7 these days but i need to point another thing out: I just love love LOVE how feminie this whole drama is! from the visual language to the plot and the characters 😭 I can not believe there's finally a historical drama out there that is about some women who are totally "like the other girls", do girly things and ARE strong at the same time. It's so frustrating to see female characters in every single historical drama being so shallow and obviously written from male fantasies like "she hates embroidery and dancing and cooking and every girly thing cause those suck and she is also not gentle and the only man in the world who sees her and loves her is MALE LEAD" lol Also, It's a really feminist drama but not in a preachy and shove-it-into-your-face way where the characters are screaming about feminism and equality every 5 minutes * coughautumnballadcough *

Liu YuFei and Chen Xiao together is like a huge strand of fire crackers lit during Chinese New Year, whoever cast them together really deserves an award for "Epic Casting"!. You get an eye-gasm while watching this drama of the beautiful and the handsome. And Chen Xiao, the expression in his eyes deserves an award...even from far, one can "see" the passion for his woman in every glance and every stare! 🤩
THE moment I start watching this drama, I felt cuptivated, Its not a silly drama, the characters have depth,you can feel imiadently the strong chemisty between the actors , at last something intresting to watch!!!!!!!
For me, the best thing about this drama is that it’s more realistically done, with few of the silly conventions I see elsewhere. The comparison you drew between the Chinese dramatist and Shakespeare was not lost on the director. The heroine washing her hands after a shameful deed is straight out of Macbeth, whereas the scene where she goes out on the balcony and he gazes at her from the boat is a wonderful reminiscence of the balcony scene in Romeo and Juliet. I wish the pipa playing were done better, really the actress could have put in some effort. There is also the difference in audio that really shouldn’t be there, this is really a lack in film craftsmanship. I mean, the film is visually gorgeous, has good actors, why neglect the music scenes?
Love the show and the Pipa scenes are the only things that bother me so much as well🤦🏻♀️ Chinese dramas always tend to not care about music playing AT ALL and it does NOT matter if the show is low budget garbage or a very high quality drama with actually proffessional and good production team, historical or modern or even freaking shows about MUSIC...it's kind of offensive to me as a musician tbh lol
Look, I understand that it’s frustrating, as a musician myself. But this time they were historically accurate. pipa is supposed to play in that dynasty.
If only the hand movement could match the music, this would be superb. I'm not a musician, but I somehow notice she holds the pipa differently from other pipa players in the drama. And she holds it at different angles in different scenes. Is that normal for pipa? Some instruments, like violin, I think the musician has to hold the instrument at the right angle at all time regardless of the music he/she plays.
You know what’s funny? The actress actually had said in their group livestream thing that she had to go learn a bit from a pro to make the pipa playing more realistic 🥲I was so confused when I heard her say that because that was really bothering me too in this otherwise amazing drama!

I am so glad you like this drama. One of the few costume drama that’s so easy to watch and understand. No weird story and no confusion! Main CP’s chemistry made this drama so great, because they are experienced actor and actress !

At first, I watched it for liu yifei. And I almost stopped around ep 2 and 3 cuz of plot holes but I continued and it got better. The cp is really good. They made me squeal with joy. The eps where pang er and her ex confront are boring. When ml returned, I was screaming with joy. I really like side characters in this a lot.
Hate the ex I am all the way up to the end now. I skipped all his parts. And skipped to when Chen Xiao came back. And the side characters are so great. I love Sanniang character and Gu Qianfan's guard the most.

I think the song that he sang after he saw Jiang Meng Ping at the party (about not happy after getting married) would be sang by the role of Zhao Pan'er in the opera to Yinzhang.

The chemistry in General’s lady i still love from a matured sense and of cos “Untamed” still remains my number 1 Chinese drama
untamed is my number one, and then Word of Honor... and Legend of the Phoenix, and Nirvana of Fire (II, expecially), and Love and Redemption... what a beautiful bunches of stories and tragedy... and passion and struggle there is in Chinese dramaland... (even so many productions are only worth to be discarted at once)...

Im truly enjoying it finally feels like after a long time. After so many poorly done productions. It feels nice!!!! It’s not all perfect but what matters is that it feels real, authentic, the chemistry feels so unique, it feels refreshing because this drama has something I missed after so longs. After Longxi it feels nice for once

Agree with all the negatives and positives of this! For a period idol drama, this is what I look for. I got giddy just listening to you being so excited because someone feels the same way as I do when it comes to the opinions on a show - at least first impression-wise. Chen Xiao made me swoon for him once again with that scene of him trying to hide his smile behind that pole! I love the character setup and dynamics of the drama. The way that Liu Yi Fei and Chen Xiao come together feels so natural without a hint of forced sugar made it a lot easier to CRAVE the romance to happen and root for it when it does. I can't wait for more but at the same, I'm so worried I'll be disappointed as we go.

I stumbled upon this drama by accident and I love it so much I paid for Tencent subscription 😭😭😭 Their chemistry is no joke and even scenes without them together are still interesting. I think the leads definitely show that they’re mature actors. I hope there’s more dramas with strong leads like this in the future.

I do love this one. Have no experience seeing ML or FL, but quickly loved their presence on the screen. Thank goodness for AvenueX to help guide me through the unknown territory of Chinese history. (Love your language videos). I also don't seem to care about the story, just like watching these 2 act so well together. Makes me happy! Started looking for their other work. Interesting. And the pace of releases are fine. I just watch all the clips and episodes again. I would love to find the words for the songs. So I could sing along like I'm trying to do with the Xiao Zhan/Wang Yibo song from TU.
It is such an enjoyable drama and I agree with everything she says. The moments she mentioned in the drama that made her go "kyaaa~~~ >.< made me feel the same way as well.. I kept rewatching those scenes... Like the look in their eyes and the body language are alll soo believable and super cute~
I'm SO obsessed with this drama. I can't say how much i'm loving this, but it is fasting becoming my favorite of all times. The songs are beautiful (I'm in love with the OST), their chemistry is amazing, the lead characters are so mature and real, even with their faults, they know how to deal with it, like when Gu addressed Zhao's insecurity and they ACTUALLY spoke of it and compromised, the costumes are great and the sets are REAL no some CGI, I can see the effort to do all of it and it really amazes me. I love to watch your review, couldn't stop giggling and squealing like a teenager during it lol
After I decided to rewatch it, I came back a year after and I need to say: I still didn’t find a greater drama than this. It became my favorite of all time (including other nationalities dramas)
I can't wait to see that kiss scene. My friends and I were laughing and said that this is how adults love each other. No more blushing and flustering around each other.
I was getting a bit burnt out on Cdramas lately and went into this one reluctantly but have been amazed since episode 1. First it was the cinematography which felt so natural…a bit prettied up but the rivers looked rivers and the plants were real and the camera filming/exposure/whatever it’s called is movie quality. 😯 Then the FL and ML met and she didn’t trip and fall with the wind untying her hair and the moment captured in slow-mo. Later, she was in a chaotic event and actually ended up dirty! 😵 Natural progression of storyline and emotional responses with communication between characters not leading to constant misunderstandings? What?!?! Like you said, it’s not perfect, but it’s such a breath of fresh air. I’ve watched countless romantic period dramas in the past few years and can count on one hand the number of them that have felt this natural and savvy. Hopefully they can keep this up until the end.
I enjoyed your review of this drama. I have currently watched all 18 available episodes and waiting for the next. I remember smiling at that scene where male lead was leaning on the post talking to female lead and he shyly rolled around it with his shoulder…😍. I also appreciate things like the complexity of male leads relationship with his father. It’s been really good so far and i’m loving it. I can’t wait for the next uploads

At first, I watched it for liu yifei. And I almost stopped around ep 2 and 3 cuz of plot holes but I continued and it got better. The cp is really good. They made me squeal with joy. The eps where pang er and her ex confront are boring. When ml returned, I was screaming with joy. I really like side characters in this a lot.
yep agreed. there are still minor plot holes which sometimes make me question but overall its very enjoyable to watch

If any of you watched Winter Begonia, the opera Dream of Splendor based on is featured in the episode where Shang Xirui performed at Cheng Fengtai's son birthday. I think the song that he sang after he saw Jiang Meng Ping at the party (about not happy after getting married) would be sang by the role of Zhao Pan'er in the opera to Yinzhang.

The chemistry in General’s lady i still love from a matured sense and of cos “Untamed” still remains my number 1 Chinese drama
untamed is my number one, and then Word of Honor... and Legend of the Phoenix, and Nirvana of Fire (II, expecially), and Love and Redemption... what a beautiful bunches of stories and tragedy... and passion and struggle there is in Chinese dramaland... (even so many productions are only worth to be discarted at once)...

Im truly enjoying it finally feels like after a long time. After so many poorly done productions. It feels nice!!!! It’s not all perfect but what matters is that it feels real, authentic, the chemistry feels so unique, it feels refreshing because this drama has something I missed after so longs. After Longxi it feels nice for once

Agree with all the negatives and positives of this! For a period idol drama, this is what I look for. I got giddy just listening to you being so excited because someone feels the same way as I do when it comes to the opinions on a show - at least first impression-wise. Chen Xiao made me swoon for him once again with that scene of him trying to hide his smile behind that pole! I love the character setup and dynamics of the drama. The way that Liu Yi Fei and Chen Xiao come together feels so natural without a hint of forced sugar made it a lot easier to CRAVE the romance to happen and root for it when it does. I can't wait for more but at the same, I'm so worried I'll be disappointed as we go.

I stumbled upon this drama by accident and I love it so much I paid for Tencent subscription 😭😭😭 Their chemistry is no joke and even scenes without them together are still interesting. I think the leads definitely show that they’re mature actors. I hope there’s more dramas with strong leads like this in the future.

I do love this one. Have no experience seeing ML or FL, but quickly loved their presence on the screen. Thank goodness for AvenueX to help guide me through the unknown territory of Chinese history. (Love your language videos). I also don't seem to care about the story, just like watching these 2 act so well together. Makes me happy! Started looking for their other work. Interesting. And the pace of releases are fine. I just watch all the clips and episodes again. I would love to find the words for the songs. So I could sing along like I'm trying to do with the Xiao Zhan/Wang Yibo song from TU.
It is such an enjoyable drama and I agree with everything she says. The moments she mentioned in the drama that made her go "kyaaa~~~ >.< made me feel the same way as well.. I kept rewatching those scenes... Like the look in their eyes and the body language are alll soo believable and super cute~
I'm SO obsessed with this drama. I can't say how much i'm loving this, but it is fasting becoming my favorite of all times. The songs are beautiful (I'm in love with the OST), their chemistry is amazing, the lead characters are so mature and real, even with their faults, they know how to deal with it, like when Gu addressed Zhao's insecurity and they ACTUALLY spoke of it and compromised, the costumes are great and the sets are REAL no some CGI, I can see the effort to do all of it and it really amazes me. I love to watch your review, couldn't stop giggling and squealing like a teenager during it lol
After I decided to rewatch it, I came back a year after and I need to say: I still didn’t find a greater drama than this. It became my favorite of all time (including other nationalities dramas)

I was getting a bit burnt out on Cdramas lately and went into this one reluctantly but have been amazed since episode 1. First it was the cinematography which felt so natural…a bit prettied up but the rivers looked rivers and the plants were real and the camera filming/exposure/whatever it’s called is movie quality. 😯 Then the FL and ML met and she didn’t trip and fall with the wind untying her hair and the moment captured in slow-mo. Later, she was in a chaotic event and actually ended up dirty! 😵 Natural progression of storyline and emotional responses with communication between characters not leading to constant misunderstandings? What?!?! Like you said, it’s not perfect, but it’s such a breath of fresh air. I’ve watched countless romantic period dramas in the past few years and can count on one hand the number of them that have felt this natural and savvy. Hopefully they can keep this up until the end.

I remember smiling at that scene where male lead was leaning on the post talking to female lead and he shyly rolled around it with his shoulder…😍. I also appreciate things like the complexity of male leads relationship with his father. It’s been really good so far and i’m loving it. I can’t wait for the next uploads
