I think crested geckos are amazing and beautiful animals. I think it is crazy that they survived around 20 years on an island they weren't supposed to be on. Also I love your channel and feel like I learn something new every time I watch a video. Keep up the great content!
An alternate gecko choice list (geckos that aren't super common pet trade) would be pretty cool. There are tons of fun geckos that aren't given a ton of exposure to people such as Viper geckos, Sarasinorum geckos, Giant ground geckos, and many more that could make great pets for some of us!
Honestly a lot of the reasons people don't like them are the reasons I'm interested in getting one. I've never had a reptile pet before so something that's needs are a bit more straightforward is definitely probably the best option, the only major downside is the fragility you mentioned but I've owned much more fragile animals before (like mice) so its certainly not something that fully discourages me.
I’ve been around a lot of reptiles and work with them. While they are fragile, I have had a lot of cresties jump from a high place onto the floor and still be okay. Obviously you shouldn’t whip them around by their leg, but they won’t break if you breathe wrong either so as long as you are somewhat gentle, they will be okay :)
I never had a problem with mine. I heard about the tail drop thing and just never picked him up by it, and he never dropped it. They like to be up high and have an impressive jump. I think the fact I had him out and handled was a big help
I’m thankful this is mostly clickbait but also holy shït Adam you’re giving your gecko about a month’s worth of food in a single feeding 😂 it could go swimming in that cup lmao
Here's a hack I discovered: for reptiles that do best at room tempature such as cresties, they still benifit from having a heat source for thermoregulation. The solution is using depleted UVB bulbs. Since they don't provide enough UVB for reptiles that require them, but still have a very mild amount, and a mild amount of heat, they're great for lighting and heating crestie enclosures and anything else that does well at room tempature.
What do you do if the room tempreture is way higher than the necessary 75degree? 75degree= 23C. So like, what if its outside 30-35C and thus, room tempreture gets also around +30C? How do you cool the enclosure down in that case so that they geckos don't overheat?
@photographychannel3875 I know you asked this a year ago however I thought I'd chip in as it seems no one provided an answer. We don't have any aircon but during heatwaves we sprayed cold water into his enclosure more frequently to cool the temperature in there and kept an eye on his thermometer. We also occasionally had a fan pointing at his enclosure to give a bit of a wind chill affect and our crestie is still going strong several years later. This has been during heatwaves where the temperature in our house has exceeded 35C.
I absolutely adore my crested gecko so I can’t say I agree but I thank you for doing this video! Because it means people that aren’t cut out to own one will realize it before they purchase one. It prevents a lot of potential neglect so thank you ✌️🙂 I love your channel

I have a crestie. And I think two of the most frustrating thing I’ve encountered are that everyone keeps saying how easy they are to feed. My gecko must be the most pickiest crestie who ever lived. He will only will eat one flavor of Pangea and sometimes crickets if he feels like it. I’ve tried every flavor until I got the one he liked. The second is that the internet just assumes you have a leopard gecko, I find it harder to find care discussions or tips about them.
I also have an insanely picky crested gecko. It took us a month after we got her to get her to eat repashy, turns out she’s just a Pangea fanatic. She just ate her first cricket the other day, after we’ve been trying for a year. I think it’s a lot more common than people talk about
Dude I'm struggling (I think) to feed my baby crested. When I first got him he was eating fine every other day or so, but the last three weeks or so he's been eating off n on every three to four days. He used to eat his Pangaea regularly and he still does but I'll feed him twice and those two times it seems like he doesn't touch the food. He LOVES roaches though. Little bastard eats 4 then 6 then 8. He is eating because I see his poops and he's also gaining weight as he should be. I got him at 4g and he's at 6g he's five months so he's right on track.

Crested Geckos are great pets i have pne myself and i know this guy know a lot but i have one myself and i love mine and also a crested gecko only has 3 reasons i bet a bunch of other geckos have at least 5
I can watch my crestie for hours! She's so active and playful. Will always socialize with me. When feeding her pangea or repashy, I put it on a stick and she chases and hunts the stick. It is perfect for stimulation. One of the reasons I got her was because of their "boring" diet and size. She sometimes does seem a little fragile but she's a little bit of a drama queen lol. She loves to jump but when she misses or doesn't stick the landing, which happens alot, she will cry and run to me lol.
Howwww I want my gecko to get along w me like this ☹️ so far they are so nice but very shy I mean I just got them a month ago but can u tell me how u tame w them so I can w mine pls ?
Slander! Blasphemy! All geckos are perfect! On the note of fragility, my friend's baby gecko decided after 2 hours of acting as a hair accessory, he was gonna yeet himself onto the floor and under a closet. I was freaking out, but he was completely fine. I guess geckos designed for jumping ought to be at least a little fall-proof... Also when you said 1994 was 28 years ago, I felt super old, even though I was born after 1994 😂
My crested/chahoua hybrid likes to chill on my head when I have my hair in a bun. It's super cute but definitely gotta watch the jumping...it scares me too.
I got mine trapped behind the drawers of my dresser. had to go through each one carefully bc I was scared that I would squish him :_; he made it all the way to the bottom and he actually came right up to me so I could take him out and back into his enclosure. He knew he didn't want to be there lol
I had a crestie several years ago that was a jumpy one. It jumped out of my hand while I was transferring it to another enclosure and ran into blankets on a couch. While looking for it, I picked up the blanket and it fell (or leaped) out onto the floor and got stepped on! Unfortunately, the damage was fatal and it died 2 days after the incident. I preserved it in alcohol for a while and then decided to make a taxidermy attempt. Since it's body was well-preserved, I simply allowed it to dry out and I then painted it to show it's original colour and patterns and I ordered realistic glass eyes from a taxidermy supplier. It turned out to be a fantastic artwork.
Their diet doesn't have to be boring. You can make your own fruit blend for them, which is actually fun and you get to learn about their nutritional needs.
I absolutely LOVE cresties!!! 🥰 I love everything about them. They are literally the PERFECT lizards for me because I HATE crickets! I don't like insects or worms. I love that they are perfectly fine with the powder and fruits. My Ricky is never boring. I could watch him all day! 😊

ive been watching your channel for a while now, and i finally got my first reptile, a crested gecko. i absolutely LOVE him, cresties are the best! especially for beginner reptile keepers like myself
It was difficult to choose either crested geckos or gargoyle geckos to be my new pets. Crested geckos can easily drop their tails and they can't regenerate them. That was the biggest reason that I chose gargoyle geckos rather than crested geckos.
I personally love my crested gecko, yes they are easy to take care of. I however have a Eco tank and feed bugs often with pangea. I also absolutely love to hold and weigh my gecko he is just absolutely amazing!!
My Crestie has aprox. Zero Chill. As soon as you pick him up he attempts to yeet himself to freedom. Whether that's in or out of his enclosure. SO, since I'm paranoid he get mostly just chills in his home, hanging out on his vines or dangling from the roof. Love him though. PLus the whole viable to feed without insects means my wife let me get him in the first place! She even loves him more then either of us expected.
The biggest downside of crested geckos is that they can't be kept in temperatures above 29°C for too long. It can be a big problem if you don't have AC.
Hmm then it will be fine for me. Even in summer. On very bad summers I get 28 °C in my room and that's more rare. Mostly about 25,5°C to 27,8°C during heat waves. I live in Germany btw. And can't handle even these temperatures. My body just shuts down if it's over 27°C. Thanks for that information btw. Hope you have a nice day :3
Cresteds need both UV and UVB lights. That’s been known now for a few years. Not doing so will cut their life span nearly in half. They can survive without it, but not ethically.
My crestie hates me- he’s a young one and he is not very hand- able. He jumps and lands on the floor. I’m afraid he’s going to hurt himself or get lost when I take him out. Will he ever mellow out?
the diet is one of my favorite parts about cresties, but for a silly reason. I like to think that their powdered food is actually a protein shakes. i drink my morning smoothies with my cresties

I plan to build on that trust over time...and I know it's going to take a long time. She's in a temp enclosure right now and I can put my hand in and out without making her upset for the most part. I've had her for about 6 months and she's only gotten sassy with me once in that time...it was 100% my fault.
Yo, your geckos may be chill but mine might have came straight from hell he just goes psycho with his powder food he just gulps down and runs like a maniac when there is a cricket he just goes beast mode I love him so much.
Just got my first ever crestie a week ago! Made a bioactive terrarium and everything and loving him!
I have a crested gecko!! Love it!!
same!
I love crested geckos and there different morphs/traits and there easy care requirements. Really love the ones with big floppy crests.!! I would love a giant leaf tailed gecko!!!
well said
Crested Geckos are great pets i have pne myself and i know this guy know a lot but i have one myself and i love mine and also a crested gecko only has 3 reasons i bet a bunch of other geckos have at least 5
I love creasted gecko but I'm a very affectionate how long are you aloud to touch them?
We got my 11yo daughter a crestie last year and I swear I have more fun with Peanut than she does! I love cresties!
Slander!
Also when you said 1994 was 28 years ago, I felt super old, even though I was born after 1994 😂
hahahah same!
@@mitcht1324 I'm glad you were able to preserve it in a way that was meaningful to you :)
Uhhm WHAT THIS IS AMAZING I DONT LIKE WATCHING THEM EAT LIVE BUGS TY FOR THE INFOO
nice!
I love it wicked wickens reptile have a nice day have a absolutely wonderful day great work have a great day have a cool day wicked reptile
thank you so much!
Their diet doesn't have to be boring. You can make your own fruit blend for them, which is actually fun and you get to learn about their nutritional needs.
so long as you supplement it correctly
I absolutely LOVE cresties!!! 🥰 I love everything about them. They are literally the PERFECT lizards for me because I HATE crickets! I don't like insects or worms. I love that they are perfectly fine with the powder and fruits.
My Ricky is never boring. I could watch him all day! 😊
I was looking into one, but the reasons seemed to be positives for me. I actually am completely fine with feeding one insects and the like.
How active is it? I like the idea of easier care but I would love the handling aspect the most… I’m just worried with it being nocturnal I won’t be able to handle much
Gargoyle gang 💪💪💪
ehhhh
I love my crestie, Its a huge contrast from my other reptiles. And I think thats why I love it. Its just super chill. And super easy to keep.
That's awesome!
My crestie watched this with me.. She is VERY offended and got SO MAD that she pooed on my desk. HELP.
hahahhaa!
ive been watching your channel for a while now, and i finally got my first reptile, a crested gecko. i absolutely LOVE him, cresties are the best! especially for beginner reptile keepers like myself
Noooo cresties are the best 😭😍 Super beautiful and cute creatures 💚
It was difficult to choose either crested geckos or gargoyle geckos to be my new pets. Crested geckos can easily drop their tails and they can't regenerate them. That was the biggest reason that I chose gargoyle geckos rather than crested geckos.
Ok well… I don’t live in a big house so the size is a pro for me😅AND I have a fear of insects so… they’re kinda perfect for me😂
that's awesome!
YEET
The biggest downside of crested geckos is that they can't be kept in temperatures above 29°C for too long. It can be a big problem if you don't have AC.
Hmm then it will be fine for me. Even in summer. On very bad summers I get 28 °C in my room and that's more rare. Mostly about 25,5°C to 27,8°C during heat waves.
I live in Germany btw. And can't handle even these temperatures. My body just shuts down if it's over 27°C.
Thanks for that information btw. Hope you have a nice day :3
bro why are you hating on a lizard people can buy them if they want stop making people think differently
the video is about how great they are
Just got a 6 month old Crested gecko a couple weeks ago. Hes fucking RAD! He chills, hes cute as fuck, hes cold and sticky... I love it!
beauty!
Cresteds need both UV and UVB lights. That’s been known now for a few years. Not doing so will cut their life span nearly in half. They can survive without it, but not ethically.
I agree that it’s beneficial, but I’ve never heard that not providing UVB cuts their lifespan in half. Do you have a source for that?
What I think is that your beard looks much better now that it's grown back in ;)
Love, Adrian and Steph. P.S. See you at the expo
hahaha! see you guys on Sunday!
Loved the OverSimplified clip in there 😂
One of my crested geckos goes crazy when she sees crickets. She's bitten my fingers sometimes when I'm petting her.
cool!
My crestie hates me- he’s a young one and he is not very hand- able. He jumps and lands on the floor. I’m afraid he’s going to hurt himself or get lost when I take him out. Will he ever mellow out?
Yes, he will most likely mellow out. Adults are generally much less jumpy than juveniles.
“That’s called foreshadowing “ 😂😂😂
hahah basically!
Dont agree. Crested geckos are amazing.
I have bearded dragons, leopards geckos and crested geckos
no doubt
The food is definitely not a negative......the powder option is fantastic especially if you ever want to travel or take a vacation.
I also agree
the diet is one of my favorite parts about cresties, but for a silly reason. I like to think that their powdered food is actually a protein shakes. i drink my morning smoothies with my cresties
Good point!
Bro 5:58💀😭
WEEEEE
damn u were my favorite reptile youtuber till this video wickens(jk you always will be). Sorry man but nothing will beat my love for cresties/New Caledonia geckos 😂❤️
I love me a cute little crestie
@@WickensWickedReptiles my first ever pets name was yoshi and now i got bowser and boo😂

I love this idea!
@@WickensWickedReptiles yeah I kinda want to make a cool reptile room that has some natural ambiance music. Kinda like an IRL lofihiphop station but it’s reptiles.
I just got my first crested geckos after not having lizards for years and he’s great
Wicked!
Are there any pets that can live comfortably and thrive their whole lives in a 20 gallon long arid bioactive terrarium?
yep, I've done several videos about just this, check it out :)
I just got a crested gecko and named it Remmy I love the little thing can’t get over how cute he is
u should definitely get a crested gecko, do not listen to this guy, they make great family pets!
the video is about how great they are
do you provide UVB?
1:59 Does your gecko have floppy tail syndrome?
lol no, this gecko here is maybe four days old
me as a long time gerbil owner, I maybe want to get one reptile
after watching this video, I thing a crested gecko is perfect for me
For sure
Our crested gecko loves to hunt her insects. She springs if she sees a drop of water fall!
so cool!
I have a crested gecko that is easy to keep and fun to hang with. She's called Roxi
wicked name
I love my crested gecko even though he doesn’t like me 🤷♂️
same haha!
this video makes me want one of these lil freaks even more. i think they look cuter with the stubby tail personally.
ehhhh that's the spirit
"Everyone has a ball python" yes. I have one. And i couldnt be happier.
same!
@@WickensWickedReptiles i got her 3 weeks ago and i have never loved anything more. She is great about being handled and eats with no problems
“That’s called foreshadowing.” Had me murdered. Thanks mate
hahaha
I would love if you talked a little bit more about how much reptiles cost in Europe.
I have no idea about that market though
Crested geckos are great for hunting entertainment because you can feed them insects more often but less insects :)
for sure!
I ❤ crested geckos!!!!!!! 😊❤❤
Just got our gecko couple months ago. We named him Yoshi as well!
wicked name
That’s not stopping me from getting it as my first gecko
Good! That’s the point
Despite the foreshadowing, I jumped when he did lol
hahahhaa!
I had a friend that had a crested gecko. Would not hunt anything It just wanted to be hand fed.
wild eh
awesome!
My favorite pet lizard
I got scared until I watched the video... cresties are the best :)
agreed!
I just got one.. only because they are docile and can be handled when older.. and look cooler than others imo
That’s all fair!
@@WickensWickedReptiles may get a gargoyle next ..lol we'll see
Love over simplified reference
I do my best
