That I don't *have* to feed them bugs and the diet is pre-mixed. I absolutely loathe having to get insect and other bug supplies for feeders. It's not even that I hate bugs. It's just excruciatingly frustrating to feed something bugs where I live unless I raise them myself due to supply issues and I don't want to do that. I just want to note that I have tried giving my single crestie bugs a few times in the past. She actually ignores them. Instead I feed the Pangaea diet with bug parts. Edit for spelling. Autocorrupt is evil.
I was literally just considering getting a Crested Gecko as my first reptile after so much research, but was so hesitant to make a decision, and then I saw your notification. I’ll take it as a sign that this should be my first reptile! Thank you!!✨
@@Loganisbad Definitely. I have been researching them for about a couple months to see all their requirements and needs, and it doesn’t hurt to research more before getting one so I’ll know everything I’m getting into. 👍
Do it! I love my little guy. He is my tiny scaly idiot son. I researched a ton before getting him. I went to a spring expo so I could talk to breeders and get info on care etc. Then I spent the summer building a bioactive enclosure so it could be settled and ready for the fall expo. Went to the expo last September, already knew which breeder I wanted to buy from, went straight to her table and took a look at what she had. She had geckos ranging from young babies, to juveniles, to adults that she was retiring from breeding. I found my eye kept being drawn back to this little juvenile red dalmatian that was super active in his cup. She asked if I wanted to hold him, I said yes, and it was love. He is the best. He is super chill. I can handle him no problem, and he seems to enjoy chilling on me while watching TV. He likes to curl up on my chest for naps. If I offer my hand, he'll curl up under it like a cave.
I’ve had a crested gecko for a few years now. I love him dearly, but over that time, I’ve struggled with anxiety and severe depression. I could barely get up from bed to eat, if at all. I’ve worried so much about him, and I’ve been afraid I haven’t been caring for him properly. I don’t handle him often, and I feel I’m not giving him enough love. Before I got him, I did all the research and bought everything that was recommended. I was really looking forward it adopting him. And I still love him. I’ve been so worried, especially since he lost his tail. (I was on vacation, and had someone feeding him for the week, and when we came back, his tail was missing.) Every time I see his little face, it makes me smile. And then cry. This video has helped me get up and go out to make sure he has the best life with me. Thank you for the video. His tank is the recommended size, and I’m planning on getting a larger one. He has fake plants and a dirt and moss substrate, and I’m hoping to replace those plants with real ones. I clean his enclosure about once a month, and rearrange it after cleaning. I’ve kept his enclosure between 65-75 degrees Fahrenheit (I live in a colder region, It’s a miracle if it gets above 70 outside during the summer) and his humidity between 40-80%. (I have to leave for work every day, so it drops on its own to around 40% by the time I get back.) after watching this video, I’ll make plans to try to get his enclosure warmer and keep it between 50-80 humidity. (I’ll probably buy an automatic mister.) He eats rapashy, a mix of two flavors because when I was trying to transition him over to one from, the other, he got picky and now will only eat the mixture. I feed him every 2-3 days, and am planning on getting crickets. I’ll hopefully soon be upgrading his tank to add more hides, plants, branches, and a more natural feel. Is there anything else I could do better?
Be gentle with yourself. The fact that you care so much about your little guy is reassuring that you will give him the attention and upgrades he deserves, while also giving yourself a bit of credit and grace. 🥰
I've always wanted a crested, and my local pet store finally got one and immediately sold me on it. This video is exactly what I needed to get me ready!
@@se9882a good way to tell is to use paper towels at the bottom of his/her enclosure, that way you can easily see where your little fella used the restroom. Also look for small dents in their food, I’ve had my oldest for 7 years and sometimes he still will just barely pick at his food, and other times he eats it all. Also, you’ve had them for not even a week so give them time to adjust to their new environment and get comfortable with you and the noises etc.

I love watching your content. It’s inspired me to get back into reptiles, I use to have a few growing up but didn’t own any for years. Last year got a fire skink, they’re alright. Really beautiful though. And am thinking of getting a new lizard sometime soon. Stuck between a few though, I want to get a uromastyx so bad but then I saw a created gecko at the local pet store and am thinking of getting one of those now. Really want to go to an expo to see and learn more but there are not very many around where I live. Thank you so much for making such amazing content
Got my first normal morph crested gecko back in January of this year. Eats live bugs like a champ and has been growing big. I’m also even considering setting up a dubia roach colony.
A crestie is gonna be my next creature! I love them they're so smooth and cute. I already have 2 corn snakes and I am already slowly growing my collection
Love crested geckos! They have such a variety of personalities and colors. One of my boys will slide his way off my hand and hang by his tail while reaching for whatever he thinks he's going to land on. From what I've seen and read through, it's not recommended to keep multiple together, especially not males. Definitely increase the enclosure size and number of hiding spots, and monitor for signs of fighting/stress if you go that route. Be prepared to separate permanently if worst comes to worst. Some crested geckos seem especially interested in attacking other lizards, others are more avoidant, and you never know what you're going to get.
Awesome guide, would love to see one with Gargoyle Geckos in the future as while they are very similar looking (and have similar care!) they are not the same and have some variances in what they prefer. Most notably I've seen a lot of conflicting information from the varying sources out there and many are a bit older so it's difficult to know what's really for the best for them. I do know they're a bit hardier than cresties in general so I've seem some more ranges in there as well but even then I see some folks suggest 50% humidity and others 70% and different temperature gradients too.
I never get tired of New Caledonia gecko videos. I also use UVB on my gargoyle gecko, but only on the days he is sleeping on his wall. He also enjoys Pangea Fig & Insect and grub Pie,which I mix with it.
Love my cresteds crazy I got started in reptiles with a lot of what would be referred to as advanced species and then I found these guys and I like em better
It's nice to see someone else keeping two of them in the same enclosure, so many people online say it's a no-no but there isn't that much proof that they can't live in pairs...
There was a lady that I met while looking for a crestie pair and she advised against it because she had two and one became egg bound and got territorial and killed her other female
@@Comedic_Runoff I think it really depends on the individual and you have to be extra careful when doing it. The breeder i got mine from kept two males together for 8 years.
Adam You’re awesome! Keep up the great work! I know care guides don’t always do good but I hope this one does! I’m trying to do a lot of research on red eyed crocodile skinks before I plan to get one in November. If you have any tips or recommendations that would be appreciated! Also how do you keep live insects at home? Or do you just buy them same day each time?
Our crested gecko hates bugs. The store insisted that he was eating extremely small crickets. We have tried and he won’t. On the flip side he hasn’t rejected any of the mix flavors even the grub one.
I have 10 cresties and one of mine doesn't care for crickets either. He too is an excellent eater of the CGD. He eats at least twice as much as my insect eaters. I give crickets twice a week.
@@prodbyjm444 I believe 18x18x24 is the recommended minimum size for an adult. I have 2 who are adults now that are still in a 12x12x18 and I think both are perfectly happy, but I do plan to upgrade as soon as I find the enclosure I am looking for.
Hi 👋 great information, hope you don’t mind me saying that I think it is important to say that they can drown in very little water & only need shallow dishes. Say Pangea size to drink from . I know people say they can lick from leaves but they also will often drink from their dishes too . Their more intelligent than people give him credit for don’t you think ? 😊
I got a crested gecko about three years ago (he'll be four in September,). Sadly I didn't realize I was supposed to be using a heat source...but plan to get one asap. For the ceramic heat emitter, what wattage should I use (seems like 60w and 100w are what I see)? It will be on top of a hexagonal terrarium that is 19"x17"x23" (lwh)? Thankfully he seems to be doing well. Didn't grow much for the first two years I had him but has hit a huge growth spurt in the past six months. Thank you for your help and keep up the incredible work you do!!!
I was waiting for you to drop a more current video on cresteds. Still haven't set up my terrarium LOL. But my son would enjoy this video. If i get the kids behind me maybe ill set one up for xmas. Already have tank/stand lol
today's my birthday and for the past few years i've been wanting a chameleon or bearded dragon, and my mom and gparents decided to get me one! long story short, the tank i was gifted was too small for either, plus i haven't had an exotic pet before and chameleons are really delicate meaning they cost more to take care of in terms of healthcare. i was told to actually go for the crested gecko as they're great for beginners and oh my goddd i immediately fell in love with it when i saw it, it's a hatchling so idk if it's a boy or girl but its name is opal and i'm such a happy lizard mom!
Hey, I'm just curious. I watched your care guide about Schneider's Skings Would a 20 gallon long They be able to live comfortably just for one PS 20 gallon long is all. I have room for the moment, so thank you for letting me know. Keep up the good work Also the dimensions are 30L 12W 12W
I found out after getting my first crested gecko, Tapioca, that I have an allergic reaction to the tiny claws. I get red welts, and it's super itchy. But it was too late. I was in love! Now I have Tokoloshe, a male, and plan to get more. I just wear long sleeve shirts when I handle them 😅
i have a i think almost 7 ft glass display case. I used it for hot wheels. but with some modifications. i think it will be the perfect encloser for a crested gecko
You are the best TH-cam ever i can't wait to see you at the animal con on September 15 have a super day have a great day have a nice day Wicked wickens reptile
We have a Leo and kiddo thinks I should get a crested gecko. We now have two toads as well. I am the queen of taking care of the feeders. Don’t need another one to feed. But they are so cute!
Are they sensitive to noise at all? I know it may be a weird question, but I'm a musician and since I still live at home the only place I can put the tank is my room. Or, like, how affected are they by less consistent lighting in the room they're in? It'll never be dark during the day, because I'll leave my curtains open, but it's not bright, either, compared to days when I have off and the lights will be on. And either way once I'm home the lights are normally on until 10, then I switch to a less bright warm light (about the equivalent to a salt lamp) till around midnight. But if I had to cover the tank at night that would be fine, it's the noise I'm most afraid will bother it
You’ll need either air conditioning or fans. That’s good for the basking area/top of the enclosure (although this should ideally be achieved with a low wattage heat lamp), although the bottom of the enclosure should be 21-24C.
Would you recommend, crested gecko, leopard gecko or bearded dragons as a “first pet” for younger children? (By that meaning it’s “theirs” but the adults do all the care and handling with them supervised handling. Our son’s aquarium pets have all passed now and he is asking for a reptile.
I have a question for you, my crested gecko hunts in such a way that he digs soil into his mouth and I have had to clean his mouth several times because he didn't get rid of it, so I want to ask you what you would recommend instead (something other than a paper towel please)
silly question, texture wise, I know what a crested gecko feels like (they're so smooth and fun to handle!!) I am considering getting a gecko for the first time and I am torn between the gargoyle and the crested, I love how derpy cresties look, and they feel so soft, but I kinda prefer the structure of the gargoyles looks wise. I was wondering, are gargoyles as smooth to the touch as cresties?? if so, I might be sold lol

From what I've seen and read through, it's not recommended to keep multiple together, especially not males. Definitely increase the enclosure size and number of hiding spots, and monitor for signs of fighting/stress if you go that route. Be prepared to separate permanently if worst comes to worst.
Some crested geckos seem especially interested in attacking other lizards, others are more avoidant, and you never know what you're going to get.
ive wanted one for like 9 years and im finally getting one ty for this
Awesome guide, would love to see one with Gargoyle Geckos in the future as while they are very similar looking (and have similar care!) they are not the same and have some variances in what they prefer.
And they don't lose their tails!!
I think I just love everything about crested geckos ❤
I do not have any plans to buy a crested gecko, but I can say that their gargoyle looks has always been interesting to me. 🐉
I never get tired of New Caledonia gecko videos. I also use UVB on my gargoyle gecko, but only on the days he is sleeping on his wall. He also enjoys Pangea Fig & Insect and grub Pie,which I mix with it.
You’re my favorite reptile TH-camr ever
Acquired a baby crestie with no time to prepare and have been binging videos since, thank you for this!
Adam
You’re awesome!
Thanks I learned some stuff from this.
Glad it was helpful!
Try Dubia roaches. Mine lives them.
Great information.
Glad you think so!
I got a crestie as an emergency rehome 2 months ago and he’s so incredible and easy to take care of
would you say 18x12x12 inches is too small?
Is it 18" high or wide?
With Cresties you want typically a 12x12x18 for a juvenile and a 18x18x24 for a full grown adult.@@prodbyjm444
@@prodbyjm444 I believe 18x18x24 is the recommended minimum size for an adult. I have 2 who are adults now that are still in a 12x12x18 and I think both are perfectly happy, but I do plan to upgrade as soon as I find the enclosure I am looking for.
@@prodbyjm444I would recommend at least 18x18x24 but I have a juvenile in a 12x12x18 and he’s fine
You are my favorite TH-camr great video
Thank you so much 😀
Im so excited. Just got a 18x18x36 and finally getting my first crestie.
Awe chicken the gecko Is so beautiful, I hope you have an awesome Day. Great vlog today
Thanks so much
Hi 👋 great information, hope you don’t mind me saying that I think it is important to say that they can drown in very little water & only need shallow dishes. Say Pangea size to drink from . I know people say they can lick from leaves but they also will often drink from their dishes too . Their more intelligent than people give him credit for don’t you think ? 😊
I talked to my mom and after showing her this video she said I can get one for my birthday 🥳
Perfect, my daughter just got a crested gecko at the Super Reptile Show in Pomona this weekend 🤙
I hope this helps
thanks for all the help on my search for my own crested Geckos.
this timing was perfect, tysm (:
thanks for watching!
Just bought a 2x2x2 ft for my boy, he just turned 6 so i figured he deserved an upgrade
I was waiting for you to drop a more current video on cresteds. Still haven't set up my terrarium LOL. But my son would enjoy this video. If i get the kids behind me maybe ill set one up for xmas. Already have tank/stand lol
hope you enjoy!
Thanks bro this helped me a lot
Happy to hear it :)
Chicken's awesome. Cool checkered back.
absolutely!
Awesome video!!! Now...
We need Skink (Schneider, Fire) and Burmese Python Care guide and how to do an enclosure... PLEASEEEEEEEEE...!
I love cresties!! I have 3 and would like to add a couple more down the road.
they are so cute!
today's my birthday and for the past few years i've been wanting a chameleon or bearded dragon, and my mom and gparents decided to get me one! long story short, the tank i was gifted was too small for either, plus i haven't had an exotic pet before and chameleons are really delicate meaning they cost more to take care of in terms of healthcare. i was told to actually go for the crested gecko as they're great for beginners and oh my goddd i immediately fell in love with it when i saw it, it's a hatchling so idk if it's a boy or girl but its name is opal and i'm such a happy lizard mom!
so easy to care for and cute
Getting my first Gargoyle Geckos
Should totally do a care guide on Gargs
Just got a Crested gecko and this was thee video I needed. Tyvm bro🙏🏽
.
Hey, I'm just curious. I watched your care guide about Schneider's Skings
Would a 20 gallon long They be able to live comfortably just for one PS 20 gallon long is all.
I just wear long sleeve shirts when I handle them 😅
Sorry to hear that
@@WickensWickedReptiles it's the strangest thing, but you do what you have to enjoy what you love! 😁
I have a crestie he/she is around 1 year old now and its so interesting how weirdly soft they are!
I got a crested gecko the day before you posted Crested Geckos are the worst pet ever 😂😂 now I have 30 with 4 eggs 😊😁 I love all my babies so much!
Enjoy!!
i have a i think almost 7 ft glass display case. I used it for hot wheels. but with some modifications. i think it will be the perfect encloser for a crested gecko
that would be awesome!
You are the best TH-cam ever i can't wait to see you at the animal con on September 15 have a super day have a great day have a nice day Wicked wickens reptile
Hi adam! Can u consider making a updated version of the hognose care guide? Ill love it.
we made on less than a year ago :)
@@WickensWickedReptiles oh wow thats amazing i thought the last one was 4 years ago, tysm! Ill watch ut right now
Hmm I cant seem to find it, could you maby link it or tell me the name?
I just made a video like this a few months ago let’s gooooo 👍🏻👍🏻
Cool!
This is great. Ive been doing a ton of research to get one, and Im finally looking for where I can buy!
We have a Leo and kiddo thinks I should get a crested gecko. We now have two toads as well. I am the queen of taking care of the feeders. Don’t need another one to feed. But they are so cute!
love your channel soo soo muchh, scared ima run out of vids to watchh
I really appreciate you!
The next care guide you do, can you please do a leopard gecko
For sure
Great video! Thank you, sir.
Love the educational video I am thinking about buying one and I like to learn about them before i get them
I've had veiled chameleons, so caring for one of these little guys sounds like a breeze. I might have to check them out.
Great vid
thanks
Are they sensitive to noise at all? I know it may be a weird question, but I'm a musician and since I still live at home the only place I can put the tank is my room.
Or, like, how affected are they by less consistent lighting in the room they're in? It'll never be dark during the day, because I'll leave my curtains open, but it's not bright, either, compared to days when I have off and the lights will be on. And either way once I'm home the lights are normally on until 10, then I switch to a less bright warm light (about the equivalent to a salt lamp) till around midnight. But if I had to cover the tank at night that would be fine, it's the noise I'm most afraid will bother it
i may be a bit too late for a reply but I got a baby crested gecko a month ago and he's so cute
What do you use for increase the temps please
halogens
i have 3 of these babies!! my favorite animal ❤
Mine too! I have 10 (I have a tendency to over do it when it comes to my interests and hobbies, I blame my ADD).
Ive got a 3ft x 2ft x 2 ft wooden vivarium with glass front. Is this suitable for 2 Crested Gecko's? Thanks.
Just got my first crestie! A 3 month old baby from a local hobbyist ive named Biscotti
I ❤ chicken!
(I WISH I could have one, but our house just gets too hot in the summer for one.)
Yay nice video!!! Been thinking of getting a crestie once i get a job so i can afford it
Quick question... What did you blend together with the top soil and sand? I missed it.
Any idea how to maintain the temperature without using air conditioner? My indoor room temperature is about 28-29 degrees
You’ll need either air conditioning or fans. That’s good for the basking area/top of the enclosure (although this should ideally be achieved with a low wattage heat lamp), although the bottom of the enclosure should be 21-24C.
where can i buy some of his reptiles that he gets from breeding??
if you're in Canada DM me on IG
I am turning ten in four days and i might get one so thank you
They literally jump like the reptile version of a sugar glider. I love it.😂❤
Would you recommend, crested gecko, leopard gecko or bearded dragons as a “first pet” for younger children? (By that meaning it’s “theirs” but the adults do all the care and handling with them supervised handling. Our son’s aquarium pets have all passed now and he is asking for a reptile.
Maybe you could make a video with crested gecko morphs from cheapest to most expensive?
not really my forte, also that video would be outdated in two months
