In 1959, James W. DeMile began his martial arts career in Seattle, Washington, under the direction of the legendary Bruce Lee. It was also DeMile's privilege to appear in Bruce's only book, "The Philosophical Art of Self Defense". DeMile was an undefeated heavyweight boxer in the Air Force as well as "Masters Level" hand to hand combat instructor for the (Special Forces Combative's) program at Fort Lewis in 1985 and 1986.
One of the foremost authorities on modern Wing Chun, DeMile has adapted Bruce's modification of the ancient art of Wing Chun and created WING CHUN DO, a practical self defense system for the 1990's student. DeMile is listed in Bob Wall's Who's Who in the Martial Arts, The Genealogy of the Ving Tsun (Wing Chun) Family by the Ving Tsun Athletic Association, The Original Martial Arts Encyclopedia by John Corcoran and Emil Farkas, Bruce Lee's Fighting Spirit by Bruce Thomas. He has appeared in the movies, Weapons of Death and The Curse of the Dragon and twice on the national TV program Entertainment Tonight. He has written four best selling martial arts books as well as produced a number of training videos, including "Bruce Lee's one and Three Inch Floating Punch", one of the most devastating strikes in the martial arts. He has designed and built a number of specialized electronic training devices as well as some versatile spring loaded wooden dummies. DeMile travels extensively throughout the world teaching his dynamic self defense concepts and techniques to students, police and the military. He specializes in accelerated self defense programs for individuals 40 years old or older. His most famous student for learning the incredible One and Three Inch Floating Punch is 80 year old Professor Wally Jay, creator of Small Circle Jujitsu. This is fascinating because at first Bruce was all about Kung Fu, later he discovered that traditional martial arts had their shortcomings and limitations. So he incorporated boxing into his Jeet Kune Do. James is the complete opposite. He started out with boxing and found out that it didn't work against what Bruce did so he started learning Kung Fu.

again this man has solidified himself as someone I can trust when he speaks of Bruce. as soon as he said centerline it hit me again. he really was someone who knew and interacted with Bruce. The centerline and trapping all came from wing Chun and was Bruce's foundation even when he dropped most of what he learned from wing Chun when finding his own way. his jeet kune do.

I remember reading in the 90s...it was either a Duncan Leung or Hawkins Cheung interview about Lei Siu Lung...that after the Wong Jack Man fight how Bruce became obsessed with learning the rest of the Wing Chun system to the point where he asked Yip Man to let him film the third and final level to take back to the U.S. and master, since he didn't have the time to stay in Hong Kong for a year to learn it. The interview continued that when Yip Man refused, Bruce was forced to start examining other arts to fill in the gap left by not having completed learning Wing Chun. So if Yip Man had said "yes", there would be no such thing as Jeet Kune Do today.

Bruce Lee trained day and night with many hours of his life which he took too much to his limit working out simple is okay for the body but not over doing it. BRUCE LEE did up to at least at 8 hours a day to 6 hours some were longer to the evening . .. he really loved marital art... but a human being can only take so much. .. and sadly he passed away at the age 32
Bruce Lee was in hight 5' 8"
He will always be known as
BRUCE LEE FAST BUT FURIOUS! ! !

To Mr Sensei Demile" with all do respect. I admire you in what you say, your right about what you say about Bruce Lee. I've been studying after he had passed. But, theirs is more to the master, and only master that these want to bee master can't see and will never see. And that is, his real secrets. That I study about him. Not his kick his punches. I have my own style. These people are studying and viewing and coping his videos and every move and calling it their own. Because their styles do not work And have no gain. That's why their lost and that's where they'll always stay. Mr Demile You are the doorway to Bruce" that's why I admire everything you say" your a man of experience. Welp, Bruce was already demonstrating 2 finger push ups with perfect form and the one inch punch as early as 1964, so he already had strength and power before years of obsessive strength training and isometrics which took him to entirely different level along with continued training in JKD by the time Jim Kelly met him. Also Bruce was at one point even bigger than he was in the movies but he felt that slowed him down...

IMO Bruce Lee would have learnt from the Gracies to make him an even more formidable fighter.
If it was an all out street fight Bruce Lee would have wiped the floor with any of the Gracies…..Bruce was an ‘all out street fighter’ and the Gracies as well as everyone else would have been humbled by Bruce’s speed, elusiveness, power, timing and the sheer effectiveness of his scientific street fighting ability aka Jeet Kune Do.

"All the slipping, the bobbing, jabbing, combinations etc" you know, all the tried and proven techniques that work in real fights 😂
But you know, this guy has techniques that only work outside of tested combat sport situations. They only work when you are standing on "the street", so you can't prove it. But he knows it. He's legit.

@@blockmasterscott Of course, and you could be in a confined space where there’s obstacles all around you. And also the wearing of clothes and shoes are game changers. For instance, I saw a fight once where a guy got into a scuffle and pulled the t-shirt over the other guy’s head. The other guy couldn’t see nothing as he was getting his head punched in. The tactic was accidental of course, but it does prove how different the street is to a combat sport. Where shoes are concerned. Well, they act like knuckle dusters for the feet. You can simply toe peg someone in the shins, stomp on toes with the hard heel, etc, things you couldn’t do in bare feet without hurting your foot. And, people don’t take into account that wearing protective gloves / gauntlets prevent you breaking your fingers. If you miss with knuckles, and connect with a hard spot with your finger bones, they’ll easily break.

According to the new Bruce Lee biography by Matthew Polly, James DeMille betrayed Bruce Lee and started a rival school in Seattle. They never reconciled. He should be ashamed of exploiting his broken connection to the master he backstabbed.

James DeMile idolizes Bruce, which is great because he was his teacher. But I could easily run off the names of some of the best boxers of all time, and Lee would not do well against them. In fact, he'd get knocked out. DeMile was not a professional boxer. There are levels.

Ask Khsbib n Bukauw if Lee would beat him. Both would only laugh n smile it off. Lee's slimmy n thinny bony would be smashed by Bukauw or Khabib in a pathetic demise. No, Lee was only a movie fighter who only fought paid stuntmen who had to obey the movie scripts he wrote. Yes, only a self pleasing movie fighter.
