I honestly think there’s a regional distribution thing happening as well. On the East coast, we keep pulling the same cards over and over. Thanks for the info Danny! 👍🏽
I’m always trying to order from all over or pay for packs opened on a live stream. When I buy here and if I get hits usually it’s always the same hits that are hard to get.
Danny, to respond to your opening question: I worked in a printing company for ten years. When products are printed, they are grouped in specific ways. From a business stand-point, it would make sense to organize and print as cost-efficient as possible, which could potentially mean that certain sheets of card, which contain specific Pokemon and rarities, are bulked together in packaging and shipping. So you don't sound crazy at all. Pokemon need to work on their packaging and distribution.

I think you might be on to something with the batching idea. I've pulled 3 alt art Chien Pao Ex (which is my favorite card in the set and I want to play it) in less than 3 boxes, and like no other special illustration rares/alt arts (1 skeledirge ex). Beyond thrilled with it tbh bc I didn't really want too many of the other ones.

I love completing master sets. If anyone is interested, the way I do the reverse holo, I put it back to back with the original card in a sleeve. I use the 9 pocket binder so it fits better. Love this set so far!

After my paldea evolved opening, i agree 100% with what you said. It took me 950 packs to get 1 Lycanroc ex regular. I also pulled 4 Dendra SIR, 4 Giacomo, 3 Grusha and not 1 Saguaro. Don’t know if I just got super unlucky but I am 5 cards from the master set. Pulled so many duplicates and very little of some other cards.
I'm here still trying to complete my crown zenith set. But awesome that you are able to do this and bring us with for the journey!
I totally believe in regional batching. When I get things local and east coast it’s very different pulls than when I order west coast.

I mean I definitely think there is something going on where the chances aren't fully random. Random is random, but eventually it should even out but it always seems like there are cards that are impossible to get even though they should be the same chance as a similar rarity or getting like 3x extra copies of a specific pull when it should be rolling a 1/20 die. Yea you might roll the same number sometimes but if your constantly rolling 5's over a hundred throws you might think its not weighted right.
Very curious as well about the regional batching and whether its a thing or not.

I feel like scarlet and violet base was much much easier to complete ( I have opened 6 booster boxes and 5 etbs so far)

I love this theory and I'd love it if it's true. This would connect collectors from miles away and encourage trades not only of the new sets but also of previous sets. It keeps the game alive and enhances social engagement. Thank you for your influence on this community, I love your positivity
I think you're right about regional batching. The only gold card my fiance and I can pull in crown zenith is palkia. We've easily opened 500 packs and have 4 of palkia, one dialga, and one arceus.
And that's about as many as you should have. The fact you have 4 Palkia is just random luck.
Hey Danny, I feel the same about batching. For them to print with normal distributions they would need to batch by rarity but as far as region? This would be a back end process after printing which may be affected randomly
For some reason none of our big box store have been stocked!!!! Usually we get them the day before but nothing here at all😢

I've only gotten a couple of full arts at best from an etb and pre-release. I can't imagine how many more packs it would take to finish a master set of this caliber!
Have a great time at Card Party!! Anecdotal for regional batching but I do take note of stores/online that gave me the 'best pulls' and the ones I always get little to no pulls. Even though it completely random on what box/sleeve I pick too but I do get conscience about it from time to time

I felt batching is definitely a thing, especially with collection boxes. I remember ones like the Boltund V boxes being loaded with hits at the time
Batching is a thing, in my area i've found 8 gardevoir EX SIR with S&V base set, 1 or even 0 of other SIR. Happes a lot with card game , it's just bad distribution, pretty sure they print the same card multiple time on the same cardboard, cut it, and then put them into boosters, but they don't mixing them up properly, so you get a lot of the same card and none of other.
Each printing faciliy might have different print rates based on local management rather than TPC limiting certain sheets to one facility
Interesting. I always wondered if different print facilities have different sheets, or if certain cards have a higher error rate at different facilities.
Also, interestingly enough, (to me)I pulled that EisCue on my very first pack.
Not on purpose but batching is a inherently a part of manufacturing. I’ve experienced it myself.
Remember the Fusion Strike god boxes in Canada... Yeah, that occurrence back then kind of lends to the conspiracy of it being possible for regional batching issues to occur...
It’s just math. Random distribution naturally results in clusters (batches). Its more noticeable in larger sets.
Apple famously had a keynote where they made iTunes shuffle less random so it wouldn’t play clusters of the same song or artist.
Looking forward to that complete master set. Good to see you can still roughly complete in little over 1000 packs
So like 3-4K for cards worth maybe $400 max.

Definitely have had some interesting pulls. One booster box has two full art Chi You’d in it. Not happy about that 😅. Def wanna compete this set through.
I actually enjoyed Base Set S.V. but I am skipping Paldea Evolved then doing Obsidian Flames and 151 for what I can do.
I was so hyped for this set as l adore fuecoco. Clearly it’s going to be a personal challenge for me balancing $ vs desire for master set. Might have to forego the master set on this one, only buy the cards l really want and then wait for obsidian 🔥 , or maybe just focus on the Pokémon master set from the current Maccas promo here in Australia 😂

Yes I agree with the this batching theory. I pulled 2 tera gyrados out of 2 boosters
Batching only makes sense if you were missing more tbh. But most of the SARs seem pullable so nice

If you opened up 1200 packs, you opened up almost 6 distributor's cases? That's insane.
I bought a distributor case + 1 booster box (7 total) and was shocked to still find I needed 40 cards. Then when I did the pull rate odds, I found out that I don't think another distributor box would do it. Maybe 2 more. But after you mentioned 1200...yeesh. I might just buy the singles lol.
Certainly feels like it's batched for me, based on SV base set. I pulled 4 of the miraidon ex Alt arts but 0 of the koraidon and 0 of the Miriams. Pulled about a case worth of packs.
I'm way far away from getting master sets on both S&V sets. And I agree, I think there is batching

15 booster boxes and I’m still missing 12 of the 193 base cards (I don’t aim for the additional hidden cards but if I get them I keep them) I’m in Virginia and I’m missing 05, 15, 25, 27, 37, 50, 54, 63, 77, 117, 130, and 153 of the 193
Grats man, this set doesn't impress me at all so I'm Saving up for Obsidian and 151. I'm still going for Brilliant Stars and Silver Tempest master sets. I'm so close on both.

Omg Terados got me, too lol. I only opened about 100 packs of SV base. I just bought what I needed after a while and came out under the "value" of a master set
I can't wait to get my pre-orders in. So many cool artworks in this set. I really want the Magikarp art rare. I just saw the reveal for the Special Art Rares of Charizard, Venosaur and Blastoise from Pokemon 151. So hyped for that set, might be the 1st set i try to master!!

Im from AZ, So far iv opened 62 packs. Gotten 2 Ting-Lu ex Sar, and 1 Squackabilly ex Sar as my only Sars so far, The gold grass energy. Still missing 10 cards from the first half, got 6 ir and 8 full arts. ordered PC ETB which I think came from cali, and bought the rest in store here. Hope this helps! ^.^

It’s not too crazy a theory. I’m sure the info is out there. It is strange because certain cards across all regions seem hard to find and other cards and pulled all over in multiples. I wonder if they print the exact same of each card at the higher rarity or are there some that are just printed less for whatever reason. Also just got into Pokémon cards again and am working on master sets for S and V base set and PE with my 151 on pre order. Do you need a reverse of each reg card to make a master set?
it is not dumb at all. batching is most definitely a thing. it may not be on purpose but IMO , it happens a lot. at least in my experience. Alt arts from evo skies seems to prove it.
I gave up mastering any set after Fusion Strike. It isn't financially feasible for me. I just focus on my favorite cards now

I have been talking about the regional distribution of certain cards for quite a while… Everybody thinks I’m crazy. But I am back-and-forth between Indiana and Florida a lot… And certain cars that are common in Florida are uncommon here and vice versa. It is so weird.
U can tell yourself that batching ain’t a thing til your blue in the face… but it is… the system that doesn’t give in to seeding ends up with clumping. Trying to b “random” leads to batching

I don't know if the regional theory is true. I pulled a full master set for paldea evolved, paradox rift, 151 and crown zenith all from local stores. Not saying it isn't a thing. But I haven't experienced it.

What if instead of region based it's product based? Pull rates vary by BB, ETB, Sleeved and different promo types maybe the pull rates also affect the specific cards? Certain cards have a higher rates in sleeved blisters for example. Just an idea.

Batching is real. When crown zenith came out my bro in law and I bought 3 boxes from our lgs and we got the EXACT same rares in all the boxes.
It wouldn't surprise me lol i am constantly pulling the same ultra rares over and over its frustrating.
The thought of regional printing is kind of a cool idea. It is a TRADING CARD GAME, after all. But that could get a little frustrating trying to finish.
It's already looking like batching is a thing. There was an ETB on the TCG subreddit that had matching commons in the packs. Like exact same seeding.

I’m glad you posted, I’m having tough luck w/ Paldea evolved too. Even with common cards, I’m not seeing as many pulls as SV. I can imagine obsidian flames is going to be following/ mirroring the champions path rates. I feel that Paldea evolved is similar to rebel clash.

Tbh I am pretty convinced batching happens (I pulled SO MANY Penny special illustration rares lol I feel Warsaw was a Penny nest) - I just do not think it's on purpose. Probably how it's printed, grouped and then shipped or so.

Master Sets always look so good in the binders
It’s cuz they don’t have enough special insert feeder machines to do all the rare cards at the same time. So it’s not really regional, it’s when the cards you got were packages in the print run, which by extension would be a regional phenomenon. That’s my theory.

I opened a BB with 14 hits! And the next BB had no special illustration rare but 2 gold cards.
That's interesting that there are more illustration rares in this set. I wonder why they chose to add more in this set.
Because they just aren't going to make the same amount every set. Same as alt arts were in S&S. Some had 4 others 17.

Pokémon give you 12 hits in a booster box. Not 4 and not 24. So to hold back certain cards in different regions is in their capability.
Waiting for my etb to arrive and that will be it, obsidian and pokemon 151 kill the hype a bit for this set, at least for me,but i think its way better than set than those in sword & shield first half

Batching could be real if you think about it because if you order from different coast you could get different batches the only way to tell is to order a case from two different distributors from different sides of the country and see what happens
