- I lost a ton of betta fry when I went on a trip and left the fish room. Find out why!
When I recorded this video, it was meant to be a video on how I prepared my fish room for me leaving. It was supposed to be how I fattened my fishies, cared for my fry, made new cultures for all of my grindal worms, roaches, superworms, and microworms.
I touched on that stuff, but explain what went WRONG!

Heartbreaking :( I'm glad your family member is OK--that really is the #1 priority. And glad that the rest of your fish room got through it. And this is a really good reminder to have a local backup person who is willing to help out with pets/house stuff while on vacation, because you never know what is going to happen! I'll make sure someone local has one of my keys, next time I head out of town!

I'm so sorry to hear about this. Usually people who don't know much about fish tend to overfeed or cannot make the calculations that an experienced hobbyist can or recognize when and how to remedy a fishy situation. This situation is one where you couldn't have really prepared for because of the family emergency. I hope your family is doing well now. Keep positive girl!

I could definitely be wrong but I've heard most professionals say that fry need to be fed at least once or twice every day and can't skip feedings like adults can. Maybe next time wait a few weeks before taking a long trip so they can grow to the size where they can more properly handle long fasting. Even the five days that you originally planned for them to be fasted was really too long for young fry. I'm sorry for your loss. There's totally a learning curve to taking care of fry since they're so very sensitive. Rachel O'Leary has some amazing videos about how to prepare your fish for long vacations and she does touch on the subject of fry tanks as well. she's very insightful

I'm pretty sure my spawns were all old enough to be fine with a a 5-day fast, because they were healthy and active when my helper finally got to my house. Most likely the smallest and weakest were cannibalized though. I did check out Rachel's vacation video, lots of great tips there
...same. First time hatching betta fry but end up all dead except for few at their 5th day, and now their 1st week left 1 survival.
Sorry for the fry problems...those are really hard to take care of. I have seen other people (Rachel OLeary specifically) make measured bags of food for fry so they do not get overfed etc. Glad to hear your family member is doing better.
That is a super good idea! Pre-portioned food bags, hmm. Taking note.
When i clean with an air hole, i put a long straw on the end that is in the aquarium... so i dont have to put my full arm into the water :-) And i can reach tiny spots where my hand cant get into.

I was always so paranoid about siphoning fry out..it happened once..and I died on the inside when it did ..but I got the little guy back in the tank and he turned out ok.

I just breed my elephant ear bettas about 5-6 days ago. They hatched 2 days go. That very night I checked on them to find that my heater malfunctioned- all my freshly hatched babies were gone, there was probably 50-70 of them... So I know how you feel ): I am planning on re-breeding the parents, but im unsure of how long to wait, do you happen to know? (Also even though they were first time parents the dad was doing a great job!)
Oh, that's too bad! The general knowledge is to let them rest for a a few week and try again
Did your heater over or underheat your fry?

To breed again, around 12-15 days will do.

Sorry for loss 6 months back i would suggest holiday food its a calcium piece which we put in the tank i had tried it many times maximum upto 12 days i had tried and all fishes survived so i trusted to suggest it... :)

This is why I would never plan vacations while my fry are so small and sensitive, its hard to dedicate all your time and I'm sure you husband would've done a fantastic job when you were away. Circumstances were terrible but im glad your family is alright and im also thankful the rest of the fishies are fine as well.

Hi,. Is feeding microworms for the first time eatable for newly born betta fries?

I am just getting started, and just a few days ago had some babies hatch... Unfortunately, it would appear that I have about 5. I don't think my male is necessarily in the prime for breeding. He was super gentle with the female and took care of the fry until I removed him. I'm hoping to have these few survive for future spawning, but do you have any pointers for setting up the tank for best results. I used a tank with plants and substrate free bottom. Kept air supply to tank and used bubble wrap to encourage the bubble nest building. Water is at about 82 degrees, and I'm feeding the baby fry micro worms. They seem to be growing, but I just wonder why the initial number was so low.
It all sounds good to me, so here is a question for you: Were there a bunch of unhatched/infertile eggs? Or did pretty much all the babies hatch but only a few ended up surviving?
Also, please tell me what your water is like, is it hard or soft? If you're not sure, do you notice mineral deposits or built-up on your fish tank glass, equipment, faucets, etc?
My Fry's are almost 9days old where can I get dafnia to feed them please help me

With the siphoning don't suck on the end put both ends in the water make sure the airline tube is full of water then pull one end out and the siphon should start
That is what I usually do, but this tank is in an awkward spot and I kept spilling water on the floor x_X

Simply Betta they always are. Happens to me more often than I'd care to admit. I just had to rib you a bit cause it seems like you can't even flip a box without people attacking you or freaking out.

I usually sell to my local pet store, though I might take the best-quality ones and try putting them online. I'm not sure!
Try putting a straw over the end of the hose, makes it rigid and easier to move when siphoning from fry tanks. So sorry for your loss :( :(

Simply Betta Have u considered an automatic fish feeder in the future? Would help for the fry and prevent over feeding if you'd need someone again. The individual fish wouldn't need one. I saw it on amazon but I don't need one. I only have 2 betta fish😆. Just asking would that have solved the problem? 🤔
Perhaps for the larger pelleted food, but not for my fine powdery baby food. Some auto feeders are in my future, though :)

Hello, I have one question. My betta male has built me and nest, so I gave him a female to breed, but the male did not repair the nest and the eggs dropped out and none of them. Why did not he fix it? And after what time can I breed the female again?
First-time dads can be bad. Most people would rest the female for two weeks then try again!
GarmiX MTAB breeding can be extremely time-consuming as well as costly. Perhaps look into the process a bit more before attempting to breed as a bubblenest doesn't mean your fish should be bred. There are many excellent breeder sites with articles and such online. I'd start with bettysplendens.com

It sure is hard to take a week away from your fish. I usually don't realize how much small things I do every day. Until I come back after only 7 days and see the changes! 😋

I have a question, i had jusy bought 2 veiltail betta gish both femle and male.Tino,the male has already made a nest and vega,the female has a white dot on her belly and she stays at the bottom of the small tank/container. Tino is always by the nest and doesnt let her by it bc he flares his gills at her. I cant tell if there arr eggs in the nest. What do i do

I'm so sorry, I know how you feel. I used to breed guppies in the past but I stopped because they all died because my siblings feed them the wrong food. Last month my cousin gave me a lot of guppies and 4 of them are pregnant, I waited because I want to see the belly getting bigger but I didn't take a look after 2 weeks because I'm having my exam and I assume she's going to be fine. And when I feed them yesterday I saw her belly was small and not even look like she's pregnant. OMG SHE ATE THE FRY I thought to myself. I am so dissapointed.
You need more hiding places for your fry..my guppies gave babies that survive even in a tank with other guppies and ghost shrimp...however my tank is full of plants

Hi my male betta is not making a bubble nest even if the female betta is flaring at him what does that mean?? And what should i do?
I have had males not make nests until the female is added into the tank. I have also had males who were just not interested in breeding.

Your bettas don't know what they're missing! I actually have one fish who won't touch live foods, such a weirdo.
My betta fries get infected some fungus that I don’t know why I think I gave live micro worm after that one by one get infected I took salt baths 75% died 25% save. Is that happen to you?
