I used to hate BMW.............until I watched this vid
I own a BMW 330i coupe from 2007 (E92). Bought it preowned from 1st owner for €15k after 5 years, RRP was €54k. The seller took a 72% hit, or a 14.4% per year depreciation. Archie lost 48%, 24% a year, it's massive. The dealer has to make money on the car.
Paul, hold on to it for another 3 years. EVs are not good. Batteries need to evolve a lot more to make EVs a practical substitute to combustion engines.
FYI 99.999% of automobile are depreciating assets, everyone knows that

German vehicles depreciate a lot Archie. The maintenance on them after the warranty expires is far too expensive for most. If you must own one and maintain more of your purchase value, you need to stick to Porsche 911s.

The depreciation is a disaster Arch but your car is much cooler than an I4. I would not make the trade even with a sweetheart deal. You've already taken the worst of the depreciation.

When you bought the car I'm sure you already researched BMWs and knew how much they depreciate. According to your calculations, how much do you estimate it should have depreciated? How much is it to buy a similar car to yours right now?
Trade in or not, the current market/retail price for your vehicle is around $56K AUD, being generous. So you've lost about a1/3 since purchase. The low-ball offer is standard for dealerships to cover the outlay, risk/holding time and profit. You might find a middle ground via one of those instant-offer companies if you're lucky, but still a big hit. As is with most euro cars, after 5yrs or 100k Klms they are ready for the compactor.
If you dont like dealer offer, just sell private and buy from dealer without tradein
Most American millionaires drive used cars. I was a millionaire and bought one new car for my son. All my cars were used. Used luxury cars can be had for good prices. I drive cars till they fall apart , although, my Bentley Turbo R looked set to last for a very long time.😢

Well, when you buy a car you have to THINK, is this a good deal or not. To pay $82.000 for a NEW BMW is ALWAYS going to be bad. I always buy a car used as new is ALWAYS bad economy. Every time.

A 50% haircut on that wannabe euro taxi cab is about how much hair you lost in the same amount of time. Sounds about right as far as depreciation. If you want value retention buy a Ferrari big boy….a mid engine one. Keep the taxi cab until the electronics go to 💩….. it’ll happen.

It’s a BMW Arch, it’s not a Porsche. Beemers are not really luxury cars anymore, they depreciate horribly. Even their arch rival Mercedes has cars that hold onto their value better. If you want what you feel are good deals you need to step up to something like a Porsche where you will pay more initially but the value is retained far better and if you get them on a a PCP say you will typically have huge equity at the end of the lease to use as a deposit for another one.
It is STUPID to buy new German cars, they depreciate like hell.

You have put 20k K's per year on a BMW? They are not made to do that. Max 10,000 k's no more than 5k preferred. They are not a-b Aussie tough /conditions cars.... they are designed to 'disable' after around 100k. BMW can’t sell them that is why they are on promotion and they are giving discounts. Tesla has dropped its price for the model 3 to $55k. The i4 is $20k too expensive.
