When I was 14, I’d get called occasionally about a van I was supposedly selling. No big deal. Until one day my phone kept going off non-stop in class. I went off to the bathroom and had a shit ton of messages, voicemails and texts, all threatening me with bodily harm if I didn’t move the van. When I answered the phone, totally freaked out and obviously young, the woman went from full-meltdown mode to completely apologetic. lol I miss those times sometimes
The very first day I had a smartphone, I got a phone call in the middle of the night from a very drunk pleb. He asked me if I was still coming to drink with him. I don’t know what I said besides “wrong number,” but it was three AM and I was not very articulate. He apologized, hung up, and I have wondered what happened to his friend ever since.

Best wrong text series of my life was between the years of 2016-2018 I was consistently getting messages from a guy named Gabe he meant to send to his friend Scott. Come to find out we had the same number as I had an android and he had an iPhone, I looked up everyone named Scott in my area and found the correct one messaged him and said "you don't know me but your friend Gabe is trying to get ahold of you, also your direct tv bill is due".
I had a girl text me 15 time. Telling me do dump her dad, and I would never be her stepmom. With more interesting reasons every time. She wouldn’t take you’ve got the wrong number seriously. Until I told her I wasn’t dating anyone let alone her dad, and I was only 16. We ended up texting about cartoons for the next hour. That would have turned out differently if my old Nokia had a block option.

One time I got a whole paragraph sent to me in french- I don't speak french- and told them they had the wrong number. My mom got really mad at me for that and I couldn't understand why. Turns out that she had told my great aunt who never texts anyone that I was taking french class (note: this was the summer before I took french 1) and auntie assumed that meant I already spoke it and decided to contact me. Usually it's because they think it's the right person trying to avoid them. We don't know what happened before they contact the wrong number, so I don't get why a lot of people assume the worst of them.

A few years ago, my sister changed her number and I called her previous number by mistake. The girl at the other end told me that I had the wrong number, but the thing is, my sister would totally say that as a prank. They sounded kinda similar too, so I just told them to stop joking around. Speaking of texting, when I was younger I was playing games on my dad’s phone when he got a scam text or a wrong number text. Being the evil the child I was, I handed the phone over to another friend who could type really fast, and had them mash the keyboard and fire off messages consisting of random letters. We sent about 40 messages before they blocked us.
I remember getting a phone call from a number thinking it was my stepdad, Warren. I answered and said “Whats up warren?” He said “Huh?” And naturally, being awkward I replied, “Uh, never mind, whats up?” And even though he just heard me call him Warren, he said “Not much, you want to buy some weed?” I was so flabbergasted. I got a wrong number text on WhatsApp last week from a girl who said she wanted to ask someone named Jessie some questions about immigration. I told her she had the wrong number, but then she noticed my profile pic (which was a stock photo of an actor from this c-drama I like) and asked if I was that celebrity. As a joke, I said yes in a way I thought was clearly sarcastic (because what would a Chinese celebrity be doing with a US number on WhatsApp responding to random numbers?) but apparently I wasn’t clear enough because she immediately started trying to call and FaceTime me asking to see me. Before I had time to respond she was already texting me in Chinese about how excited she was to have my number and asking what tv shows was I working on, etc. when I didn’t respond she got upset and it finally ended with “you’re letting your fans down,” before I could explain to her I hadn’t meant it seriously.

It turns out that this Jennifer that people were texting to lived in central Texas, for reference, I live in the PNW. By far the funniest text that I got from there was that what I assume was Jennifer's ex texted me an offer to get back together. I told them that this wasn't Jennifer and that they just texted a random teenager that got Jennifer's old number. They texted back "oh shit, lmao." And asked me if I knew Jennifer's new number. So, random Jennifer from central Texas, if you see this, can you please inform your employers that you should probably update any contacts that they have from you.
My old number was apparently some doctor's number so I got a lot of questionable messages. I got called a few times and it was really awkward as an 11 year old to tell some adult to stop messaging me about their feet pains.
My old highschool teacher had the same problem, apparently his number was close to the health clinic's number, so he would get awkward calls like that too.
Some doctor has our house number on his card and we get called by his patients for years. It only got awkward recently when my brother became a doctor, cuz we would have to clarify which doctor they r calling.

One time I had an entire conversation with a woman who was a wrong number. She texted me and at first I thought it was wrong number but then for a bit I started thinking it was my school friend who had somehow found my number. Meanwhile she was thinking I was her niece. Because her niece's name was also Lily, which, coincidentally is my name. So we had an entire conversation where I asked her if she did the English assignment and apparently I guess she was a college student so she said yes. Also one time got a text from a guy in New Jersey who thought I was some girl he met at a party and obviously had been given my number as a way of rejecting him. I am not the least bit surprised considering his response to me saying this is a wrong number was utter denial. So I gave my phone to my mom who told him this is not the phone of any girl he's looking for and was in fact the phone of her 14-year-old daughter. She asked him to stop contacting me and he said and I quote, "fuck you and your daughter." This was years ago but I still remember it and I can understand why that girl didn't give him her actual number.
when I was around 11 I used to get texts from the same unknown number constantly. They apparently thought I was their aunt or something? Definitely a family member. I learned about their birthday parties, how many people wanted to wish me merry Christmas and lots of other things. I was at a barbecue at my grandma's, wasn't part of any sport/club, and was (and still am) an extremely introverted person. So I texted back "Whoever you meant to send this to is having a better life than me."

None of these are as bad as the time I got 20 texts (all out of order) which I think were from a drunk mother angry at her son's father who had been to jail. Years ago I got a text from an (rightfully) angry mother demanding child support payments. She took the "I'm not the father of your child(ren)" news surprisingly well.
That happened to me when I was 12. This mother was angrily telling me to "Pay the child support, bastard." It took me three paragraphs, five arguments, and one voice message to convince her I was not the so-called "Jeremy 'Bichardson' Richardson" who was the arrogant father of her three month old child. When she realised I was a 12 year old girl, she said, "Feck it, I knew he gave me the wrong number when he got a new phone." And then nothing has happened since then. That message has been there for five years, and I just texted back saying, "did you ever get those payments?" And she said, "Yeah, after I lectured him and scolded him for giving me the wrong number deliberately, giving me a 12 year old's number instead." This is on my old phone, which my mother gave to me when I was 9. And presumably had a similar phone number to Jeremy's new phone. I just told her, "Well, that sucks. I'm 17 now, so if he does it again, give him my uncle's number." I told her my uncle's number, and he's a local police officer in the town I presume they lived in when I did (still do, now.)

So I just said, "Yeah, I decided to not tell you until now as it would've probably annoyed you." And then Pat said, "It would've been fine, so anyway, what date should we start setting up the stuff?" I knew I was fucked. I had no idea when Britney's birthday was, and apparently Andrea ALWAYS decided the same times for every birthday, so I was done. I just said, "Oh, I'll let you decide this time, Pat." And he was like "Really? You never let anyone else decide, why now?" "I was just tired of doing it the same everytime, so I let you decide." "Oh, well thanks! That was new." And then that was the end of the conversation. A day later, Pat texted me and said, "Is this even Andrea? She is VERY talkative." That's when I revealed who I really was and he was like, "Oh, cool. I don't mind though, you can come too, whoever you are." Aaand, that's how I became friends with Andrea and everyone else.
Not a text but instead a phone call; In high school I was at a buddy’s house playing some games in his basement and we heard the phone ring. He decided to answer it after which we were met with a bunch of Chinese(?) people talking in the background before a heavily accented man asked “Hello, master, what can I do for you?” before *he* hung up.

When my mother got her 2nd phone number, she was unfortunate enough to get the phone number of a recently bankrupt pizza-place. I don’t remember what the pizza-place was named, but she had to explain to at least 75 people over the course of multiple months. Ofc, some called multiple times, too. This was before i was born, so that’s why i don’t have any details (24+ years ago)
I remember seeing a similar story where a pizza place near the user had put up posters around town, advertising their place, with a number on it. Problem is, it was the user's number, not the pizza place's number. The result of that was probably similar to the result of this one, but I can't remember it too well.

The memory came back where I myself was a wrong number. When I got my first phone, I tried testing it out by texting my mom. However, I put the wrong number in by accident or something, and ended up texting this random stranger something like "Hi mom ☺❤" or something along those lines. I had something like that happen to me once. I have something set up on my phone to, when I get a call from someone not in my contacts, automatically text something along the lines of "your call has been automatically rejected because you're not in my contacts." and one day I got a text replying to one of those with "who are you how did you get my number" and a bunch of angry emojis. I told them _they_ had called _me_ and that they must've butt-dialed me or something like that, and their immediate response was "no I didn't, blocked". In retrospect this story isn't nearly as funny written out as I thought it was in my head, but I'll share anyway.

The very first day I had a smartphone, I got a phone call in the middle of the night from a very drunk pleb. He asked me if I was still coming to drink with him. I don’t know what I said besides “wrong number,” but it was three AM and I was not very articulate. He apologized, hung up, and I have wondered what happened to his friend ever since.
I remember I got a text from a random number that said "To the left," and I just replied "Take it back now y'all" and moments later they doubled up with "One hop this time" and we just kept on doing it until we got the full song.

Usually it's because they think it's the right person trying to avoid them. We don't know what happened before they contact the wrong number, so I don't get why a lot of people assume the worst of them.

A few years ago, my sister changed her number and I called her previous number by mistake. The girl at the other end told me that I had the wrong number, but the thing is, my sister would totally say that as a prank. They sounded kinda similar too, so I just told them to stop joking around.
We went back and forth a couple of times, me fully believing I was talking to my sister until this woman got genuinely angry. She said "I am not your sister. Never call this number again. I mean it." Then she hung up on me.
I then realized my mistake, and I called my sister's real number to relay the story. She said "that's hilarious. I'm going to call her now and ask for me." I still think about this lady.

Speaking of texting, when I was younger I was playing games on my dad’s phone when he got a scam text or a wrong number text. Being the evil the child I was, I handed the phone over to another friend who could type really fast, and had them mash the keyboard and fire off messages consisting of random letters. We sent about 40 messages before they blocked us.
I remember getting a phone call from a number thinking it was my stepdad, Warren. I answered and said “Whats up warren?” He said “Huh?” And naturally, being awkward I replied, “Uh, never mind, whats up?” And even though he just heard me call him Warren, he said “Not much, you want to buy some weed?” I was so flabbergasted. I just told him he had the wrong number, and he kindly apologized and we said our goodbyes. Just a strange but funny interaction. He seemed like a nice guy too.

I got a wrong number text on WhatsApp last week from a girl who said she wanted to ask someone named Jessie some questions about immigration. I told her she had the wrong number, but then she noticed my profile pic (which was a stock photo of an actor from this c-drama I like) and asked if I was that celebrity. As a joke, I said yes in a way I thought was clearly sarcastic (because what would a Chinese celebrity be doing with a US number on WhatsApp responding to random numbers?) but apparently I wasn’t clear enough because she immediately started trying to call and FaceTime me asking to see me. Before I had time to respond she was already texting me in Chinese about how excited she was to have my number and asking what tv shows was I working on, etc. when I didn’t respond she got upset and it finally ended with “you’re letting your fans down,” before I could explain to her I hadn’t meant it seriously.

I never told anyone about the cronicles of Jennifer. Back when I had my old phone I would get random texts to someone named "Jennifer" about every month. It turns out that this Jennifer that people were texting to lived in central Texas, for reference, I live in the PNW.
By far the funniest text that I got from there was that what I assume was Jennifer's ex texted me an offer to get back together. I told them that this wasn't Jennifer and that they just texted a random teenager that got Jennifer's old number. They texted back "oh shit, lmao." And asked me if I knew Jennifer's new number.

My old number was apparently some doctor's number so I got a lot of questionable messages. I got called a few times and it was really awkward as an 11 year old to tell some adult to stop messaging me about their feet pains.

I got a few wrong number texts and calls when I was around 13 years old. It was an elderly woman who misdialed. And then did it again. But we both just laughed it off, and I told her I wished her luck. After the third try, she must have succeeded. We talked for like five minutes collectively, but I still remember how kind she was.
I had to tell a group chat of lacrosse moms that they kept incorrectly adding my number to the team parent group text FIVE TIMES, and I only got them to remove me by pointing out the fact that they were giving a complete stranger information about the exact time and place their kids would be.

One time I had an entire conversation with a woman who was a wrong number. She texted me and at first I thought it was wrong number but then for a bit I started thinking it was my school friend who had somehow found my number. Meanwhile she was thinking I was her niece. Because her niece's name was also Lily, which, coincidentally is my name. So we had an entire conversation where I asked her if she did the English assignment and apparently I guess she was a college student so she said yes.
Also one time got a text from a guy in New Jersey who thought I was some girl he met at a party and obviously had been given my number as a way of rejecting him. I am not the least bit surprised considering his response to me saying this is a wrong number was utter denial. So I gave my phone to my mom who told him this is not the phone of any girl he's looking for and was in fact the phone of her 14-year-old daughter. She asked him to stop contacting me and he said and I quote, "fuck you and your daughter." This was years ago but I still remember it and I can understand why that girl didn't give him her actual number.

I learned about their birthday parties, how many people wanted to wish me merry Christmas and lots of other things. This one person wrong numbered me, congratulating me and my team on our victory, and sent a photo of a trophy.
I was at a barbecue at my grandma's, wasn't part of any sport/club, and was (and still am) an extremely introverted person.
So I texted back "Whoever you meant to send this to is having a better life than me."
I woke up early today and decided to watch this video, but in the middle of it I cracked up and laughed and my parents came into my room and I couldn't stop laughing, so they took my phone and decided to see what I was laughing about and they started laughin too and then my brother woke up and he came to see why we all were laughing, and he started to laugh too, and the same happened to our neighbors and neither of us could stop laughing so we all are now isolated from the rest of society.

None of these are as bad as the time I got 20 texts (all out of order) which I think were from a drunk mother angry at her son's father who had been to jail. And then a day or two later I got text from a different number with a long apology to someone's spouse for acting crazy due to new depression meds and ptsd. I have no idea if these texts were from the same person, but if they weren't, it's weird I got such crazy messages so close together. Either way, the whole situation was nuts.

Years ago I got a text from an (rightfully) angry mother demanding child support payments.
She took the "I'm not the father of your child(ren)" news surprisingly well.
That happened to me when I was 12.
This mother was angrily telling me to "Pay the child support, bastard."
It took me three paragraphs, five arguments, and one voice message to convince her I was not the so-called "Jeremy 'Bichardson' Richardson" who was the arrogant father of her three month old child.
When she realised I was a 12 year old girl, she said, "Feck it, I knew he gave me the wrong number when he got a new phone." And then nothing has happened since then.
That message has been there for five years, and I just texted back saying, "did you ever get those payments?" And she said, "Yeah, after I lectured him and scolded him for giving me the wrong number deliberately, giving me a 12 year old's number instead."
This is on my old phone, which my mother gave to me when I was 9. And presumably had a similar phone number to Jeremy's new phone.
I just told her, "Well, that sucks. I'm 17 now, so if he does it again, give him my uncle's number." I told her my uncle's number, and he's a local police officer in the town I presume they lived in when I did (still do, now.)
I once allowed a very intense argument to happen at me in a wrong number text. I waited until she got so shitty and insulting that it would be embarrassing before letting her know it was a wrong number. That was fun.
A few times this has happened to me.
I'll tell one of the stories.
So, I suddenly got this text that said, "Hey, Andrea. It's Pat, I asked Britney if she wanted to invite you to her birthday party and she said 'Ask her if she wants to come.' So, do you wanna?"
I really had no idea whether to tell them they had the wrong number or to play along.
I played along.
So I texted back, "Yeah, I'll come, just tell Britney's dad to not add the peanuts."
I somehow correctly guessed that this "Andrea" was allergic to peanuts and that Britney's dad set up the party, lucky.
And then Pat said, "You have a peanut allergy? Never told me."
So I just said, "Yeah, I decided to not tell you until now as it would've probably annoyed you."
And then Pat said, "It would've been fine, so anyway, what date should we start setting up the stuff?"
I knew I was fucked.
I had no idea when Britney's birthday was, and apparently Andrea ALWAYS decided the same times for every birthday, so I was done.
I just said, "Oh, I'll let you decide this time, Pat."
And he was like "Really? You never let anyone else decide, why now?"
"I was just tired of doing it the same everytime, so I let you decide."
"Oh, well thanks! That was new."
And then that was the end of the conversation.
A day later, Pat texted me and said, "Is this even Andrea? She is VERY talkative."
That's when I revealed who I really was and he was like, "Oh, cool. I don't mind though, you can come too, whoever you are."
Aaand, that's how I became friends with Andrea and everyone else.

I was added to a group chat once. The creator started talking about how their son had an audition for Disney channel and did really well. About 6 months later I texted the group chat to see if he ever got a call back, had to know if I was talking to someone soon to be famous. Never got a response 😅
When my mother got her 2nd phone number, she was unfortunate enough to get the phone number of a recently bankrupt pizza-place. I don’t remember what the pizza-place was named, but she had to explain to at least 75 people over the course of multiple months. Ofc, some called multiple times, too.
This was before i was born, so that’s why i don’t have any details (24+ years ago)
I remember seeing a similar story where a pizza place near the user had put up posters around town, advertising their place, with a number on it. Problem is, it was the user's number, not the pizza place's number. The result of that was probably similar to the result of this one, but I can't remember it too well.

One time this girl texted me after she'd been given a fake number by her date(?) I told her I wasn't him, and for some reason she wanted to meet up with me in person, even though she did not know me. I ended up panicking and blocking her, and the only major things I remember were the name of the guy she was trying to text (Langston), the fake name I gave her (Eliza), and the fact that all her texts were łíķé ťhíş
I seem to have neglected to mention the fact that I stated that I did not want to meet in person yet she kept saying she wanted to meet up.
Usually spambots use accented/lookalike characters to get around spam filters, and if they were ignoring your responses... it was probably one of those imo

The memory came back where I myself was a wrong number.
When I got my first phone, I tried testing it out by texting my mom. However, I put the wrong number in by accident or something, and ended up texting this random stranger something like "Hi mom ☺❤" or something along those lines. When she didn't reply, I tried testing it out more by saying stuff like "mom? Where are you?" and I got this text back that said something like "you have the wrong number, sweetie, this is not your mom,"
It's been about five years since that occasion and I still remember it and wish I didn't.
So I once got a girl who was wrong-numbered from a dating site. I'm a nice person but after this interaction I'm gonna be as much of a sarcastic ass to any future wrong numbers, cuz this very quickly devolved. Here's how it roughly went down.
Her: "Hey this is [name]. We messaged on Bumble. We should go get drinks!"
Me: "I'm sorry, I think you have the wrong number."
Her: "Wait, this isn't [guy's name]?"
Me: "No. I'm sorry."
Her: "Oh my gosh! I can't believe he wrong-numbered me. This is so embarrassing!"
Me: "I mean maybe ask him on the site to clarify the number. I'm sure it was a simple mistake."
Her: "You're nice. What's you're name?"
Me: "Dylan." [It's a girl's name in my case. I should've told her, but I had no idea what was going on.]
Her: "Well since me and [guy's name] seems like it won't be working out, maybe you and I should hang out."
Me: "I don't think my mom will appreciate me hanging out with a total stranger." [It still hadn't occurred to me what was happening.]
Her: [Sends a picture of her making a provocative pose in just a bra and underwear.] "Send me pictures."
Me: [Now I get what's going on.] "Ummm... I'm a 16 year-old girl. And I'm straight."
Her: "I'm so hotttt. Tell me what you want to do to me."
Me: [Blocks number and screams internally.]
My favorite wrong number text conversation happened after there was a minor earthquake in my area. Some random person text going "are you and the family ok?" I told him he had the wrong number but assured him I was good, asked how he was and wished him well. Very pleasant
I once got a wrong number from another state asking me about a package I was supposed to deliver. I spent like three days ignoring it untill the guy said he was "here." I asked him if he brought the truck and shovels and then got upset when he said he didn't. No idea what happened to him as he stopped texting, I wonder what he's up to now and wonder if he ever got that package.

Once, I got a text from a random person that said, “Hello. This is Amelia, please call me back regarding your divorce.”
Another time, I was added into a group chat where one of them sent directions to a 7-11😂
And some other times, I’ve gotten texts saying, “thanks for last night” or “I’ll call you back.” My phone number is pretty popular with all the random calls I get too.
Once I had a wrong number text me on my phone. Literally was terrified. It said I'm downstairs.

I had something like that happen to me once. I have something set up on my phone to, when I get a call from someone not in my contacts, automatically text something along the lines of "your call has been automatically rejected because you're not in my contacts." and one day I got a text replying to one of those with "who are you how did you get my number" and a bunch of angry emojis. I told them _they_ had called _me_ and that they must've butt-dialed me or something like that, and their immediate response was "no I didn't, blocked".
In retrospect this story isn't nearly as funny written out as I thought it was in my head, but I'll share anyway.
