  • Monsters University, for instance, had concerned parents fret over its featuring of "horns and sharp teeth", "mild bullying", and "one character that is sucked up by a floor waxing machine".

I don’t even understand that. I can kinda understand why a parent wouldn’t want their kid seeing people drunk but are they just gonna deny the existence of alcohol to their child? If they don’t know about alcohol already they’ll probably just think it’s grape juice in a fancy cup. When I was a kid my parents used to give me “kids wine” which was just apple juice or black current juice.

The blanket thing was one I had to squint at and rewatch several times to get why the magic mirror guy looked so uncomfortable too. I’m surprised the parents guide didn’t mention Shrek saying “do you think he’s compensating for something” when looking at lord Farquad’s tower-that’s the more obvious one but kids definitely won’t get it. Honestly the first SpongeBob movie was way worse than Shrek in terms of subtlety about adult jokes. The rating systems are horrible and presided over by an independent board of old white boomers. LGBT content is consistently rated as being for more 'mature' audiences than straight content for the same actions (kissing, light groping, etc.). As funny as this video is and some parents' limits and reactions to words like 'gosh,' IMDB's system is good in that it allows people to get a clearer picture overall. I can also imagine it would be good for a friend looking at movies to watch with someone who has specific traumas or PTSD to be on the lookout for certain types of mature content but not others.

I’ve never heard of this movie but I assume this makes it out much worse than it is.

I watched the last movie with my mom and totally forgot about the bones thing. It was painful to watch and kinda scared me, but I’m glad it’s just fiction tbh! The ending was sad, too. I suggest watching it, but not if you’re sensitive to blood!

“Private” gives the movie away. He’s literally the penguin with the British accent.
