    so... Ijust heard that the council house people are telling the tenants to wait for baliffs to come!!!! how dare they cost more money for law abiding landlords...shame on them

      They're considered making themselves voluntarily homeless if they leave before the bailiffs come. That means they won't be offered emergency housing. It's a problem with the legislation.

    • @Random-wx4kf
      @Random-wx4kf 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@emilytelfer7542 the UK law now is that even if you get evicted by bailiffs, if it was for rent arrears you are still considered to have made yourself intentionally homeless and the councils by law cannot help you. You will soon see councils not advising people to stay until the bailiffs arrive.

    So u get a court order that says the tenant must b out in 14 days but it dosnt mean nothing cause then u have to wait & pay for the baliffs to come in 6 weeks more so whats the point of the court order. The tenants know they dont have to leave & the council supports the tenant & tells them to stay how is that right. Thats a joke in the us once u get a rit of eviction they have to get out. Dont understand why the owners dont start eviction earlier why wait till there that deep into no rent.

      Exactly and if it were me I'd have the process started the first time they were to miss bc if they miss one chances are they aren't paying anymore don't wait 7 days or 306 or more days just to do the 14 and 6 weeks more

      @MiWri 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      It costs the landlords thousands to get them out, and who gets those thousands?? That's why the laws are the way they are.... so councels and govt. departments can rip them off even more

      What I don't get is why they don't hire the bailiff as soon as they get the 14 day possession. Then they would only have to wait like a few more weeks instead of 2 weeks then 6 weeks.

    It is outrageous the City Council will rehouse these criminals knowing they are not following their rental obligations. Just keep kicking the problems down the road.

  • @simonc1039
    @simonc1039 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

    The council should have to act on the letter of eviction by the eviction date. Not use the law against landlords to stave off the eviction just to end up doing the exact same thing after its cost them thousands more.

    Why do you not have 3 month checks like Australia. You could also charge extra rent to cover lawnmower and gardening.

      In America landlords barely do checks unless ur in low income housing or housing assistance such as section 8/HUD ... Then they check the properties every 3-6 months and u get kicked out for destroying the property like that.. I want to learn more about Australia's housing. I love learning how other countries work

    I hate to say this, but the British, Irish, and Scottish people are way, way too nice. The laws, pertaining to landlords and tenants, NEEDS to be changed, and enforced by the police.
    Why SHOULD the landlords continue to pay out monies for court costs, lawyer fees, and for bailiffs?? IF the tenant is 60 days behind rent, then they SHOULD be forced to reimburse the landlord for all costs; IF the tenant is living in absolute squalor conditions, then they SHOULD be fined, pay for ALL repairs, loss of their tenant’s wages, and reimburse the tenant for all legal costs! IF the tenant pays for any repairs, then the landlord has an ultimatum: the landlord MUST reimburse the tenant, or the tenant has the absolute right to deduct the amount they paid for repairs from their rent/mortgage. That’s it!
    As for scrupulous rent companies, they either are shutdown and permanently banned from opening up another company - once they have not given any monies to the actual landlord.
    As for squatters, they have an ultimatum: reimburse the property owner for ALL damages that they had done, or go straight to jail! No ifs, ands or buts! IF they refuse to leave, after given a verbal or written order to vacate, then they automatically go straight to jail! No passing “Go,” and no “collecting $200.”

      @oligultonn หลายเดือนก่อน

      Couldn't agree more! This is how it works most of the time here in Iceland. Although here instead of bailiffs we have the police, debt recovery agencies, lawyers, banks, savings banks, loan companies. All these can enforce a court ordered payment of a debt against and for private individuals, companies but only the police can do it for the government. Usually the police is only involved from the beginning in cases of fraud or if it's a huge amount of money. In case of squatters or trespassers the police doesn't need a court order as there is already a crime being committed.

    This system is seriously messed up "here is a court order now it's your property" also "don't give them the property until they have bailiffs"
    Ok. I want to hate the tenant but they're just following advice. I want to say bad advice but it's really only bad for the landlord.

    It’s disgusting that these people have not been paying rent.. a court order has been issued for them to leave the property and they are advised by council to wait until they are evicted by bailiffs.. so they can be rehoused.. costing the landlords more money and distress.. surely there is a better way to help tenants who have hit bad times.. then to put the weight on strangers to foot their housing bill.. I’ve only watched a handful of these episodes but it seems to me the laws around tenants and landlords is horrific in the UK.. 😳

    Gosh, a neighbor tenant who owes £25k , that would be maddening . Many pretenders these days for their fake lives. Do full background and financial checking before allowing anyone on property. Laws are too slow to get these people out sooner; waiting a fortnight is so painful and costly.

    Does the UK not have HOA(Homeowners Associations) like laws to restrict owners to certain things like, keeping one’s front and backyard free of things. Like you can’t just dump things in the yards. This is the benefit of having an HOA and it’s what allows your property to be worth more than none HOA.
