I was getting tired of folks telling me you can't reduce loads to get accurate test results so I got a setup that let's me achieve the desired velocities with standard loads showing yes you can and people should not let terminology like reduced or reducing keep them from understanding that. (Twist rate is of more but still little to no concern) Wish there were similar options for me with other calibers like 7 mm in particular because that's such a popular caliber these days. I have the 6.5 Grendel for 0.264 and the 338 Federal that works okay for 0.338 bullets but there's not many options in others that would work well. Definitely not as well as the 300 AAC/Blackout dose with the 0.308 bullets.
Gold Dots perform well in everything I've seen them chambered in. At 400 yards the factory 62gr .223 which isn't the greatest velocity at the muzzle, but still will knock out divots between quarter and 50 cent size in an old concrete well casing. Relatively deep also. Can't seem to catch the .308 or .264 Gold Dot bullets in stock. Great work on the video! Keep'em coming!

That 168 is a unicorn now days. I would love to get my hands on some. That gold dot for the money is hard to beat. My kids shoot deer with the 150 GD out of a 16in blackout. Does pretty good always exits. I bought some Speer 172 Impacts 30 cal for my 308. Youngblood Tactical had them for $34 per 50. Id love to see what they do around 1400fps and 2600fps. Not much on them out there.
Gold dots are definitely hard to beat, especially for the money. I haven't messed with the Speer Impacts as of yet. Shot placement and knowing the limitations of the bullet one is using is everything when treating the animals we hunt ethically and with respect.
47-49 grains of varget depending on what rifle I'm loading for. Always start low and work up. I really like Varget for the 165-168 gr bullets in a 30-06.
@@simplemindedfella gotcha, I'm looking for a hunting load for a savage axis. the 168 gr gold dot is kinda what I've landed on to try. Would you say 47gr is a good starting point for that load?

There are some match bullets that make for adequate hunting bullets. The Lapua Scenar may be one of them. Submoashooting.com is where i get my sample packs and they have some Lapua Scenar bullets but currently only have the 175 grain bullets in 30 caliber. If I see the 155s somewhere for a reasonable price I'll pick some up for testing.
I found some 139gr 0.264 that Mr Wally sent me from Submoashooting.com I will try to get those tested soon. Definitely not the same thing as a 155 grain 308 bullet but should give similar enough results to know how the 155 in the 308 should work.
It's crazy how you go from making a large cavity to literally splitting the block open when going from the upper 2000s to lower 3000s fps range. Is the difference in damage that drastic on game as well?
Yes I have found it to be. Regardless of bullet (hunting bullets not fmj's and such) most when impact velocities are over 3k fps the destruction and bloodshot is drastically worse. The Badlands Bulldozer 2 bullets are the only ones I have tested in gelatin that don't seem too be overly destructive at extreme high velocity impacts. I have not tested them in the field yet.
How do these bullets differ from Federal Fusion? Are they the same type of construction? I'm under the impression they are electroplated rather than a cup and draw jacket, but not 100% sure of that.
@@TODinWY So the whole process is just a modern spin on what Winchester called Lubaloy ages ago for pistol bullets, and much the same as copper plated .22 rimfire bullets. Makes perfect sense to me. The only thing a jacket does is engage rifling and hold things together on impact. Doesn't matter how that jacket gets applied to a core as long as it does it's job properly and consistently.
Great test and except penetration, bullet did everything excellent.I have about 70 bullets left. Its hard to get anything from US in Europe. I think using gold dot for long range in combination with swift a frame 165gr for short range could be a Winner (swift a frame would be awesome to test, but not able to get anywhere in Europe)

I plan on picking up a few of the tapes I like at Harbor Freight and leaving them everywhere. The one is supposed to live in the range bag and I'm not sure why it wasn't in the bag.

@Zrage VII Hodgdon has 47 grains as a starting load for the 168gr HDY HPBY and that should be a safe place to start with the 168gr Gold-Dot.

I am not sure of Speers bonding process.
They are electro-plated. You, or anything you shoot will not know the difference. Great bullets.

As far as I'm aware, they are the exact same bullets as the fusion. Both are electroplated "bonded" bullets.
