150gr Badlands Bulldozer 2 experimental broaching test. Will they expand faster/sooner on impact?

Ballistic gel testing experimental heavy broaching on the 30 caliber 150 grain Badlands Bulldozer 2 to see if they would expand faster/quicker on low velocity impacts. I used an 8 inch 300 AAC/Blackout pistol 1:7 twist for this test. As can be seen in the video there is no noticeable difference at lower velocities.

RPM Testing the Badlands Bulldozer 2 150 grain 30 caliber under 1800 fps to see if RPM's play a significant factor on how bullets perform terminally at distance. Thats super slow and they are meant to hit hide and rib cage, not soft gel

    • @simplemindedfella
      @simplemindedfella 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You have to move them slow when trying to find the minimum velocity they will still perform at. As far as for gelatin there has been lots of studies done to create testing mediums and the industry has settled on 10% gelatin when testing for hunting purposes and that does take into consideration bone and hide. Live/green bone and hide have minimal effect on a bullet. I have confirmed that with my own testing.

    ELDX not menrtioned in this vid. Interesting... Mulling over ELDX vs. ABLR at 6.5 cm, 308 win, 300PRC @ distance (sub 2850fps velocities). Have full confidence in TBT as they shot well in 308 but trying to dumb it down for good performance on deer deer AND heavier elk..

      I only use the ELD-X in rifles that I have set up with muzzle velocities at or under 2700 fps because of how bad they come apart. ABLR's are what I currently use the most and absolutely love them.

    Great infor! Sadly i have been reloading since the 80's and alway firm believer in cup and core bullets, one i favor was 170gr round nose soft point out of 308 and 06 running around 2700fps max did beautiful on deer and elk out to 400 yards. Though now days bonded and all copper bullets are starting to take the show!

    • @simplemindedfella
      @simplemindedfella 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @nathanhatcher7096 with increased velocity, a bullet with more integrity is necessary. I have a few rifles that I mostly have used for doe management but have also harvested bucks and elk with that I use cup core bullets in. They all have muzzle velocities between 2500-2700 fps. I have a 6.5 Creedmoor that I have shooting the 140gr ELD-M's at 2600 fps. That's my go to doe management gun. I have dropped everyone I have shot with that gun to just over 600 yards. Cup and core and be extremely effective and not destroy meat if ones muzzle velocities are not too high.

    So 600 to 800 yards, depending on muzzle velocity being, say 2550 to 2750 fps? For perspective, a .357 Magnum will do between 1400 and 1500 fps from a 158 gr in a 6+ inch revolver. So .357 Magnum energy from an expanding bullet at 600+ yards? Not bad! And you can get Hornady Black with the 168 gr Amax for $1.60-ish a pop, which also isn't bad for match .308 Win, these days. I am in the process of putting an 18 inch Proof and a Dead Air Sandman on a DMR themed AR-10, and I gotta say, this bullet is checking a lot of boxes for a do-all load in this rifle.

    Using Partitions for the last 44 yrs, haven't had a reason to change, I never fear a hard quartering shot, a hoop shot or a frontal shot when needed, sometimes that's all you get at a moose or elk, I hunted BC and AB , I didn't know what I'd see for sure, for many years, could have up to all 4 different tags, WT, MD, elk and moose, partitions got it done. Meat loss was something I was willing to sacrifice at times, most of the time, didn't have to.

    I really wanted my rifle to like the terminal ascent’s. First two shots at 100 yards went through the same hole. 3rd shot was 1.5 inches off. Then I got a 5.5 inch group at 300. Berger 168gr hybrid hunter’s got a 1/2” group at 100 and under an inch at 300, though I realize that was likely a bit of a fluke. Still impressive. Thoroughly impressed with the accuracy of the bergers so I at least have my fallback round if I can’t find a good bonded bullet that my rifle shoots well. Appreciate the content!

    You mind sharing your load data for this bullet in .308? Thx

    Very encouraging to hear. Was interested in something like this for my son and was concerned the short barrel would be crazy loud. If that's all the velocity you've lost though I'm assuming that at ~20 inches there's no perceivable difference than a long barrel? Plenty of compact 243 youth guns out there but after being next to them at the range, no thank you. Very excited to get a 6.8 going and working up some mild loads for him :)
