    In this video we show you step by step how to upholster a storage box or storage ottoman. To build the frame is easy and requires just 18mm MDF wood to be pinned together…you can make it any size you like 😊 We show you each step of the process from adding foam to the box, sewing the corners (really simple sewing, little experience required) and upholstering the box. You can use any fabric you like to create this storage box and it’s a perfect (and practical!) decorative addition to any room.

    Typical Bank Holiday Monday - pissed it down all day so I have watched lots of your videos. Its been very informative. What is Dacron used for and how do you choose which foam to utilise on a job? Is there a difference between blue and white foams apart from their colour?

I’ve just recently posted a video about foam and Dacron so should hopefully answer all of your questions...if not, feel free to ask more 👍🏻 here’s the link to the video: th-cam.com/video/jbfhtRP3gIQ/w-d-xo.html thanks for watching my videos mate, it’s really appreciated 😊👍🏻

    Nice video! I was so excited to see it. Hint: If you trim off the corners of your fabric after you sew and before you turn your handle, you can get nice, sharp outside corners - but yours look good. UPDATE: This weekend, I had to put some screws through fabric to attach a chair bottom and it was a mess. The screw wadded the fabric up. I ended up cutting holes in the fabric with my box knife so it wouldn't catch on the screw. Did you have any issues with the hinges? Did you cut holes first, or?

    • @faceliftinteriors
      @faceliftinteriors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Sandy, sorry I didn’t see the update to your comment - for some reason TH-cam doesn’t notify me when someone updates their comment.
      Yea what I usually do is staple a square around where I’m going to screw and that stops the fabric from getting taken into the screw. But cutting out a square works too 👍🏻 yea I would do the same method with the hinges as the Dacron can also get pulled out with the drill too. Hope that helps 😊

    • @faceliftinteriors
      @faceliftinteriors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Samantha - Sandy had updated her comment once she posted it so TH-cam didn’t notify me of that. But TH-cam notified me about your comment so I realised Sandy had asked a question. Thank you 😊👍🏻

    You are amazingly neat and explained every detail. How much would something like this cost?
    Mine needs redoing.
    In Australia, most quotes are $600 and above for basic material. How long would it take?
    I would be interested to compare your costings and hours to what I sm being told down under.
    Thanks mate.

    • @faceliftinteriors
      @faceliftinteriors  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Roxanne, it's hard to compare as in Australia the wages are much higher than here. I'm also reluctant to discuss prices on here. Drop me dm on Instagram or email me at Neilbanyard@faceliftinteriors.co.uk and I can discuss further there. Many thanks 😊 🙏

    Love your videos! I am just starting out and have learnt so much from you. I wonder if you can help with something I am struggling with.... I am upholstering a dog bed which is essentially a four sided box like this ottoman box. I am not using a separate lining piece - just all the same material. I can't get my head around how to fix the material on the inside without showing staples. Have you done something like this? I would really appreciate any suggestions you have. Thanks

    Thank you! Great Video! I want to build a storage box as my first upholstery project. One thing I ain't sure about: The total size of my box should be 120cm x 40cm. I assume, that the "fabric tube" should be 120 x 40. But.. How big should I build the wooden box, when I want to use 1cm foam and 100g padding? I think, there should be some space for the foam and padding between the fabric and the wood. Is a half cm on each side enough -> 119cm x 39cm?

    • @faceliftinteriors
      @faceliftinteriors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    How do you stop the Dacron rolling into bunches when you pull the fabric cover over the box?

    • @faceliftinteriors
      @faceliftinteriors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Tingette! Glue it down well and staple at the top of you need to and then push it back down as you go with a regulator if it does start to turn. Try to go little by little on each corner too, that usually helps avoid it turning 😊👍🏻
