I've built a storage ottoman/tool box almost identical to the one your working on here and am getting ready to upholster it in the same materials you've used. Although I've done limited upholstery (my universal weight machine's benches and a Polaris UTV bench seat), this job is at another level. This video is the answer to my questions concerning, "How the heck am I going to do this and not have it come out looking like an idiot did it??". I don't have sewing equipment, so I've decided to avoid staples showing on the only vertical seam by folding and using decorative nails down the center of the back. The upper and lower sections will both have locking lids and the top will just be a 2" padded seat to set on either level we use, so it will have a front and back and won't be in the middle of the room. Thanks very much for posting this. It really will help.
Finally ! Alo I just wanted to say thank you ! I've been working for a furniture manufacture for the last 3 years and 3 months I said Fuck it I'm tired of making 13 a hour making upholstered goods for someone who resells for thousands I'm officially up and running my own shop, weve had a good steady and growing customer base mostly online orders. Your videos and techniques gave me knowledge and helped tune in my skills. You really have no idea how thankful I am.
Thank you for taking the time to watch the video we do appreciate it. I'm also happy to hear i was able to bring the best out of you and got you to do something you like. good luck with your new business. if you have any question let me know. Darren
You truly have a gift. So glad you take time to share! I’d have definitely hired you to make an upholstered bed if you were located closer. By watching you, I’ve learned it is those finishing touches & techniques that take a piece from good to GREAT! My DIY projects look better (though I’ll never be as good as you at manipulating fabric). It has also changed how I scrutinize upholstered pieces I buy. THANK YOU!
He got skills, I wish I could make something as neat as that. I’m working on an ottoman for my mother, it’s 3 foot long by 1.5 foot high and 18” deep, she wants it to house all her bedding and comforters, it’s coming along nicely now. TFS this it’s really helped me.
You have a wonderful ability. You do not skimp on knowledge. You are a good person You are my teacher...thank you so much my teacher ( kop -kon-mak-mak-ka)
Muy a menudo veo y vuelvo a ver tus videos... Tu trabajo es de excelente calidad. El de hoy es buenísimo también... felicitaciones por tu dedicación y perfección. Saludos cordiales desde Punta Arenas -Chile
How do you I make the black leather lid? Have you got any tips for doing that? For instance if the box is 14 inch wide is the fabric also that wide or is it abit more to give for the foam or do u stretch it to fit? Great work by the way 😊
What is the name of the glue you are using? Please share, I am a senior living in New Jersey hoping one day I will be blessed to repair or make a foot stool for my husband. Thank you.
Hello I coach hockey and trying to build two small bed extensions for my RV, so the kids have more room for a long trip coming up. What kind of pneumatic stapler should I buy? What brand is in the video? What size and type staples are you using?
Thank you for sharing your videos. I have learned enough about you, I see your work from the center of Mexico and I am very grateful, as I have decided to start my own business inspired by your work. I would like to ask what kind of glue do you use? or how do you dilute it to use it with the air gun? .thank you very much
The glue that i used is in a big metal pail but you could use the 3m supper 77 glue multipurpose adhesive for small jobs. i hope that helps Thanks Darren
I love your work! Maybe you can do another video on how you pre-stitch the materials.. what methods you use to measure to get it precise? Love to learn. 👍
I am trying to recover a sewing chair. The seat cushion has a hinge and there is storage inside the seat. The seat frame is not square and the fabric should cover the inside of the chair completely. The fabric edges will be stapled along the bottom edge and covered with a piece of cardboard or wood. My question is - how do you measure and mark the fabric to get perfect corners when the piece is not square (like your ottoman)?
Thanks for reply to my questions I appreciate that. I want to order some material to make one but what I'm not sure is the measurements.for the small piece you out on the inside of the top lid to stop it from moving. Thanks you
We have had this bench th-cam.com/users/postUgkxNuLbiXpLQ-mKH5NlyjrNe88hiCk2N3Cg for five years now and it is still holding up strong with minimal signs of wear! So much so that I decided to get another one to store other stuff. The first one is still beautiful, strong and is easy to clean. It’s been in our living room and we store toys and blankets in it and it really holds quite a bit of stuff. I purchased a similar one two years ago from Aldi and let me tell you that one fell apart in less than six months of use. Get this one if you’re looking. Seriously worth it. Five years already and I can’t believe it looks this good and has held up for the price! Awesome bench, the new one I just got is identical.
