      @@CatPartyNYC It's a combination of donation decklists taking the priority of my content and D&T not being particularly good or fun to play currently. I've got a donation for taxes, so a new D&T stream will be hitting the channel sometime this week or the beginning of next week.

    Turns out I'm a more competent D&T player than I realized. I found myself agreeing with a lot of the choices in these matchups. It was very valuable to hear 2 very high level players talking through lines, and definitely has me reinvigorated to play some Legacy again, especially in a post-oko world

  • @akalethmtg

    FYI, at 27:40 when you thought you made a mistake by not porting your opponent's Plains in your upkeep, you can still port the Plains in your main phase and get the same effect. They're forced to cast the Swords to Plowshares in your precombat main phase, after which you'll get priority in your main phase again before combat and you're able to equip the Sword to the Stoneforge.

    • @BoshNRoll
      @BoshNRoll  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure. With my land drop I can still make sure Sword connects, I just risk losing the ability to Batterskull by missing it in the upkeep.

    • @akalethmtg
      @akalethmtg 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BoshNRoll Yup, that is a fair point. I think it's unlikely that the Stoneforge gets StP'd over the Flickerwisp in that situation, but it's a reasonable consideration.

    • @BoshNRoll
      @BoshNRoll  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@akalethmtg I just meant this turn. I equip Wisp, start to move to combat, they Plow with floating mana, I make my land drop and re-equip SFM to attack then I don't have 2 mana plus untapped SFM that turn. If they have the plow there it costs me 4 mana to play around it instead of 2. I still get my sword attack in, it's just suboptimal.

    • @akalethmtg
      @akalethmtg 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BoshNRoll @BoshNRoll Right, yeah, I understand what you mean. My point is that, if they do have a StP in hand, spending that two Mana on putting in Batterskull, while also connecting with the sword, will only really happen if you port them in your upkeep step *and* they choose to StP the Stoneforge, not the Flickerwisp. Just to be clear, I totally agree that porting them in your upkeep (better yet draw step) is better than doing it in the main phase, I just think that you should still do it in the main phase if you miss the upkeep/draw window, and I wasn't sure if you missed it in the moment or chose not to.

    45:50 Is there a merit to tapping the misty rainforest? This forces them to use it or be vulnerable to wasteland. And if they do, they lose a shuffle and the ability to get a different mana then U/G or be able to get got with Wasteland again.

    • @BoshNRoll
      @BoshNRoll  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think in that spot denying them an actual guaranteed mana is more important. There are spots where tapping Misty makes sense, but they were already constricted and they're frequently just 1 mana away from doing what they want.

    Can someone explain to me what happens at 40:41? Is the opponent responding to the Astrolabe's own ETB effect by plowing the SotL so he can draw a card? Can an activated ability of a permanent be used to respond to that same permanent's ETB efffect? If so, I had no idea!

    • @BoshNRoll
      @BoshNRoll  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup! Exactly. Every spell and effect in Magic uses the stack. You play Astrolabe, its draw triggered ability goes on the stack, Astrolabe is currently in play so you can use it for mana, cast your Plow, then the draw resolves. It was a super cool play!

    • @kovala
      @kovala 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BoshNRoll Thanks! I always thought the ETB ability had to resolve before the activated abilities of the permanent could be used. I learn new things about this game every day.

    • @BoshNRoll
      @BoshNRoll  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kovala Yup!
      The ability has to be an instant-speed ability to work like that. If a Planeswalker entering the battlefield causes a trigger, you can't activate the planeswalker in response (PW abilities are sorcery speed). Or if a creature has summoning sickness that won't work. But artifacts don't have summoning sickness, so there was a sweet line there.
      Normally it doesn't matter, but there are some cool tricks out there if you know where to look for them. :)

  • @Guidothirteen
    @Guidothirteen 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    nice video, question: at 47:10, any thoughts on wasting their misty in your endstep? the can fetch in response but u take a way the brainstorm shuffle and maybe they do not have a basic left? + you have enough lands, or they find a nonbasic to waste again

    • @BoshNRoll
      @BoshNRoll  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I remember correctly, Phil said something this game about wasting the Misty in response if they cast a cantrip to deny the shuffle. I don't think we talked about proactively wasting it. Phil seemed to err on the side of maintaining as much of our own mana as possible in a few spots that I probably would have been more aggressive.

      There are cards that care about card names, like Predict. Splitting the two is free to do and has minor play value, so you might as well.

    Why 7 Basic Plains and 7 Snow-Covered Plains? Style?

    • @BoshNRoll
      @BoshNRoll  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It gives minor insulation against cards like Predict, it cuts their hits to draw 2 cards in half. It's one of those tiny edges that barely matters, but it's free to do so you might as well. Like playing 1 Llanowar Elf and one Fyndhorn Elf in Elves.
