I just bought one. We have the m18 3/8 at the shop. I wanted the m12 for home because I have an electric ratchet and wanted to be able to use the same battery. It really is a powerful tool
i've rotated 5 Mercedes tires on one charge with a 4ah battery. If you buy this to rotate car tires I recommend the 6ah Battery and the 1/2 model
I would have personally run down the lugs in a star pattern.

And what was the purpose of running setting 1? I understand the purpose of the 4th setting, so he wouldn’t risk cross threading. Why couldn’t he just go straight to setting 2? 🤔
To get them close he was fine, but final torque with the click wrench should be proper pattern, which it wasn't here. Neither was the tire rotation pattern.

Good job to those that spotted him not torquing in a cross/star pattern. But did no one catch that he didn't rotate the tires correctly either?
You cross to the drive axle and then bring the others straight up/back.
This truck is most likely a 4X4, but in 2 it's rear wheel drive. On a rear wheel drive axle, you cross the front two wheels to the back and then bring the others straight up to the front axle.
Proper tire rotations at the correct intervals (usually every 5,000 miles or at ever oil change, newer cars with full synthetic oil can go 10,000 between oil changes, but it's still recommended to rotate tires at 5,000), proper tire inflation, and proper alignment are the best way to keep your tires lasting as long as you can. Tires aren't cheap, my guy.
4 brand new tires for that truck should be $1,000 or more before labor at any tire shop.
That said, the point of the video was too showcase the capability of the Milwaukee M12 Fuel Impact Wrench and even using a 3/8" anvil with a 1/2" adapter, you can reliably and consistently bust 20-24 lug nuts (you said 5 per tire, but I think I counted 6. Most trucks have 6) that are torqued to over 150 ft. lbs.
That's pretty remarkable considering the small stature. I own the M12 in both the impact wrench and impact bit driver. Both Fuels. But I've been using my Earthquake XT to bust lug nuts at work.
Maybe I'll give the M12 another chance. Most laymen, and most mechanics even, don't torque their lug nuts to spec.
Most of the time they make a habit of being liberal with the ugga duggas on their air tools and crank em down too much.
Maybe I'll post a video of my results on random customer cars that I see.
Milwaukee and Matco are my go to tools, glad to see battery operated can get the job done.
Massively impressed with the tool. Think fronts cross when going to the rear and cross pattern tightening to avoid killing the rotors.
Good review. Personally i think that 4th button is a game changer for impact tools, up there with when they first started putting power meters on tools/batteries, lights on tools, and switching to lithium batteries. Im surprised it tock so long for companys to think it up. now you can use a impact to properly put on things not just take them off.

Just got a 1/2 stubby for work. I think setting 3 is about 100 ft lbs, 2 is about 70, havent really done 1, cuz it feels weak. Auto stop or 4 is about 10 ft lbs

i think it would be hard to fit into taking brake caliper brackets off and stuff that's in hard to reach places. It looks awful thick, not long, but just too wide to fit into places.
You're supposed to torque them down to spec in a crisscross pattern but whatever will probably be fine
I have the 3/8’s stubby I use at work. My one and ONLY complaint about this impact is that the nose cone can’t be easily removed you have to split the case of the whole gun to get into the hammers of the impact. I work on a lot of rusty cars and the dust get into the front seal of the gun which wouldn’t be an issue if I could pull the front open and clean the bushing and re-grease it because now the front bushing is making some terrible noise and I can’t fix it with out either A.) pulling it apart and voiding my warranty or B.) sending it back for a warranty claim. Beyond that this gun is AMAZING. Super short and WAY over powered for its size. It blows me away how strong this little guy is.
VINCE I understand this is a tool review and a great one. I WANT THAT TOOL but when you rotate your tires next time you if you want to to itthe rite way you cross the rear tires when you move them to the front. So rear DRIVER SIDE YOU WILL MOVE TO FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TO KEEP EVEN Tread wear and someone els committed you want to tiien lugs in a star pattern! Thanks for the review Vince.
It's doesn't really matter about the star pattern if you know you are already in the general torque area, but for the maybe 2 seconds a tire you save you should still do it anyway

That's not what the 4th setting is for bud, I'm a technician and it's an auto shut off mode to prevent over tightening fasteners, and when you drive it in and it kills power it kills power at 10 ft pounds of torque.. love the videos bro thx......
CrossPattern: You are a first level rookie. Standard protocol is to tighten lug nuts in a crisscross pattern.

I am looking at this gun for general use on my trucks and cars etc to speed up disassembly and reassembly I know this is just a test to see how well it works on taking Lugs off . I already have the M12 3/8 Ratchet and love it so this is perfect because you can just buy the tool for about $159 plus free ship by the way it only takes me 5 minutes to Rotate all 4 tires on my truck I just put it on the lift and spin all four and done .

I just got mine last week replaced the valve cover gasket on my trailblazer worked like a dream easy to fit into the engine and that 4th mode helped to not break any bolts

I really would like to know should I get the 3/8 stubby or the 1/2. I know they are both rated 250 ftlb but is the 1/2 actually more powerful. Is there a huge difference in physical size.
I have both and their the same size, can't go wrong with either,. I had some rusted bolts on my brakes that 3/8 stubby could not get off that the 1/2 stubby could. BUT, When I used the 1/2 drive socket with an adapter on the 3/8 stubby; I was able to get the bolt free with either impact. I believe that extra mass that the 1/2 socket had over the 3/8 socket is what made the difference, not so much the actual driver.

N.C auto repair and maintenance ! I always do a star pattern but I don’t exactly think it’s necessary if you hold the wheel against the hub. I do however agree the torque wrench was extremely cringe lmao

Hey Vince! Just purchased a 3/8" stubby and I'm loving it. Only thing is I haven't found a 3/8" to 1/2" adapter that works well with the friction ring; I've tried husky and craftsmen and both slide a lot. If you have any idea where you got yours from please let me know!!

Try Harbor freight they have a socket set for like 30 beans comes with one. I haven’t had an issue with, I’m about to purchase the stubby soon

Hey VCG and idea if a heavier socket will give the gun more torque? in this case it seems your using a 3/8 to 1/2 adapter with 1/2in socket. More mass of the larger 1/2 socket transfers the torque better? I sometimes have issues removing 17mm lug nuts toruqed to 90ft-lbs with my 3/8 stubby.

The manual says that in Auto Shut Off Mode (which is the 4th setting talked about in the video), the tool will drive forward at a reduced RPM until the torque is achieved, but it does not say which torque.
I read somewhere that it would be about 10 foot pounds (or 14 Nm)
Auto shutoff in reverse uses max power to loosen and reduces it's speed once the nut is loose. In forward, it stops fastening as soon as it senses resistance. When changing wheels, I typically use the 4th mode to loosen, but use speed 1 to tighten after starting the nuts by hand. And as always, finish off with a torque wrench.

I’m making footage at my shop trying to take lugs off BMWs with the 1/2” on a 6.0Ah, it ain’t happening on about half of em. Not what I bought it for, but for a mechanic needing speed and power, you need something in the 1,200+ ft lb range because of these newbies at tire shops over torquing these things...

VCG Construction so for average wheels at home use ok, but as a mechanic you don’t want to be sitting on each lug for longer then a second. That’s why I’m currently using the Dewalt DCF889, been using it for almost 2yrs, the thing is still a beast💪
Dan that DeWalt only has 50 LB Ft more torque , Are you sure you aren’t confusing tools? The stubby 3/8 has 350lbs fastening and nut busting, have you tried it yet?

I love mine. I work on cars and it's great. On my A4 for lugnuts it's 90lbs. I use precision setting torqued within a LB of that. Then tried on my cousins F150 at 120ft lbs same results. No clue how it does it

I bought the 3/8 but kind of wish I bought the 1/2. Only because there seem to be more adapters or attachments. But I also have more 1/2 socket options. In a nutshell I love my 3/8. But I will be buying a 1/2 in too.

You should tighten with a cross pattern
so many people don't get your are supposed to use these wrenches for taking off lug nuts..not putting on...torque wrenches are for torqueing. :) good video sir.

That's the beauty of the special setting. It's made to run down fasteners quickly and stop as soon as it hits 10 ft lb of resistance then you use your torque wrench to proper spec.

I say get the 1/2" then if you get a bigger impact later you can use the same sockets.
I have the same tool but the sockets do not fit tight on it if you hold the tool down with the socket on it the socket with slip right off is this normal or what

Hi Vince ... how do we know you didnt use a breaker first ? you didnt prove the lug nuts were tight ..... Just sayin . You say they were torqued but you could be telling fibs . They came off a bit too easily if you ask me . Milwaukee told me I need a Mid Torque to get the Lug nuts off my 4WD . Why would they say that ?
As a vehicle tech I can tell you the little M12 takes off most wheels no problem, only issue happens when you get wheels that haven't been off for 3-4 years + road salt or crazy over torqued. I use a breaker bar on the locking wheel nuts, if those were really tight I'll grab the M18 high torque. Otherwise the M12 does fine for at least 90%.
i just bought my 3/8 stubby but did NOT do well on removing my tire. i have a toyota highlander. im shifting to 1/2 inch m18 it packs more power!
May I ask how much your wheels was torqued too?
Most likely from the tire shop putting his wheels on with there air impacts over torquing them by alot. They usually do that to get them done as quick as possible to get more vehicles busted out in a day..instead of using a torque wrench like you should..or you never know how people use or misuse there tools out there in the world.

Im thinking about having work get it for me. May just get the 300 ft lb model. I ordered the M12 kit tonight that has the hammer drill and impact driver. Wife has been doing cabinet installs with her friend lately so M12 would be perfect. She can use it and so Can I. Also picked up the M12 inflator for my dad for Christmas. I think he will really like it
Vince, I purchased one of these after watching the video but I’m thinking of more power as sometimes the 3/8 won’t have enough power to take some things off, would the 1/2 stubby have more torque or is it the same gun only a half inch? Or would I be safer just going with the m18 half inch impact? It would be more for just taking wheel nuts off, it’s just some cars are tighter than others and the 3/8 just doesn’t quite do it

I just got the M12 stubby 3/8. It can’t take any of my F150 lugs off using an impact socket. I’ve torqued them to 150ft lbs as stated in owners manuel. I don’t know what the deal is.

I could be wrong and dont want to be that guy but I'm pretty sure on a 4x4 truck you bring the rear tire to the opposite side front corner, and then the fronts go to the same side in the rear.

@@VCGConstruction yeah man it's your truck and you can do it the way you like, but I do my tire rotations right front to left rear and left front to right rear so now your tire is rolling in the opposite direction than it was for a little better wear and maybe last a little longer. Yep, rear wheel drive cross rotate the front to the rear and bring the rear straight forward. Front wheel drive cross rotate the rear and bring the fronts straight back. Unless you have directional tires of course.

On a serious note, I am a hair trigger away from ordering this stubby impact when the finances settle down after all these Milwaukee purchases and I can not make my mind up for the 3/8” or 1/2”. I have a big gun for lugs and big jobs so I was considering the 3/8” for disassembly Work and random stuff. But then I feel like I’m limiting most of the torque equipment I have. (1/2” sockets, torque sticks,speed bar and other stuff in half inch). If you had to choose only one what would it be??
I prefer the 3/8” myself! I feel like I can always adapter up when necessary!!

i couldnt decide either but finally went with the 1/2 with locking indent pin. reasons being, really wanted the ident pin, most of my impact sets and adapters happen to be mostly half inch drive, and i wouldnt be loosing any torque if i needed to put the largest socket it could handle on. i use an adapter with a ball relase for quick change. Adds length though. Also i got the older 3/8th ratchet with the 2nd gen drill and impact driver kit beucase it came with an extra tool and one 2 and 4 amp batteries, charger and just got the stubby tool only. Cheapest way i could get the most stuff that gave the versatility. Plus got the 12 flood light that came with a 2 amp battery.
