The Jetsons is a spinoff from the show of their prehistoric cousins the Flintstones. The Jetsons originally aired in prime time from September 23, 1962, to March 17, 1963, on ABC, with prime time reruns continuing through September 22, 1963. Following its prime time cancellation, when syndication broadcasts on ABC placed reruns of The Jetsons on its Saturday morning schedule for almost 1 year from September 21, 1963 to April 18, 1964. For the remaining 13 seasons, the program would spend the next two decades on Saturday mornings, with subsequent runs on CBS 1 year from September 26, 1964 to September 18, 1965 and for 2 more years from October 2, 1969 to September 4, 1971 and on NBC 18 years, for 2 years from October 2, 1965 to September 2, 1967; 5 more years from September 11, 1971 to September 4, 1976; 2 more years February 3, 1979 to October 4, 1981 and for 1 more year September 18, 1982 to April 2, 1983). The Jetsons began airing in syndication in September 1976, and these runs continued after the program returned to NBC's Saturday morning schedule. Along with fellow Hanna-Barbera production Jonny Quest and Warner Bros.' Looney Tunes shorts, The Jetsons is one of the few series to have aired on each of the Big Three television networks in the United States. It then later aired in reruns via syndication, with new episodes produced from 1985 to 1987.
First carpet burns I ever had was diving in front of the T.V. to see the globe explode as the show started, Loved the episode where Astro (Tralfaz) is discovered by his original owner and Elroy has to give him up, but a happy ending as expected.
I phreaking love The Jetsons !!!!! ...........And The Flintstones, as well. :) Hanna Barbérra was the shiz-nitt, you have to admit.....for their time, and all.........Really!! Cartoons Rule !!!!!!1
Actually Hanna-Barbera didn't meet it's "demise". It just became part of Warner Animation when Warner acquired Ted Turner's company which owned HB at the time.
I remember an episode where George came home from work, rode the conveyor belt through a machine that automatically changed him into comfortable clothes and he cam out with a cigarette in one hand and a martini in the other. A cartoon character that smoked and drank could never be made nowadays. In a way, I hope they don't do a live action movie. As much as I love the old show, they will ruin it, like all the other old shows and cartoons they make movies from now. They never are true to the original product.
Indeed. Movies really only suceed at adapting books into live action movies. Cartoons rarely do well on the big screen, probably because no matter what studio tackles it the producers only care about money, and not faithfulness to the source material.
THE JETSONS went to Saturday morning reruns on CBS. It was not in "syndication." Interestingly, the original network promotion declared, "Blast off to the 21st Century with THE JETSONS, premiering September 21st on ABC. That would have been a Friday evening, the same night as THE FLINTSTONES. If THE FLINTSTONES had been used as a lead in, it would have done better in ratings. Or if THE JETSONS had been scheduled at 7:30 on Saturday evenings, it would have done better since that Saturday evening slot was less competitive. The executives at ABC foolishly scheduled the show opposite two established show in the same time slot, DENNIS THE MENACE on CBS and WALT DISNEY'S WONDERFUL WORLD OF COLOR on NBC. Then there was TOP CAT, another victim of foolish time slot selection the year before.
It would be pretty nice to see a live action film with the jetsons although to be perfectly honest i prefer not to touch our good childhood, because most of the times ends up to be like a child Molester raping our past.
Error: "The Jetsons" aired on A.B.C. on Saturday mornings AFTER it ended its prime time run, and then C.B.S. and finally N.B.C. before it went into syndication in '84.
*Sigh* What is it with Hollywood trying to ruin classic cartoons with live-action movies. What's next? Johnny Quest? Secret Squirrel? *STOP THE MADNESS*
Because that is an entirely different series. The show originally ran from 1962-1963, then in the mid 80s Hanna-Barbera launched a syndicated version which began with its second season. The show used digital ink and paint as opposed to the celluloid animation technique. It also had a complete rescore and used synthesizers as opposed to orchestrated pieces.
Don't know where/who you heard that from but your dates are wrong. Do an internet search for "Jetsons time period" and you'll see several sources support 2062 as the intended year.
Joey2Go I think I heard that info from Boomerang when they aired re-runs of the Jetsons and confirmed that from the mouth of Hanna or Barbara. Considering the Jetsons were created in the 60's where the year 1999 or 2001 seemed like the year for hover/cars cars (Thinking the technology would advance that far in a lot of media at the time.) So I guess, they changed the intended date somewhere down the line when the 2nd season came out in the 80s.
well, it's an opinion. opinions don't have to be justified; that's why they're opinions. but if you want a reason, how about: 1. it's basically the flintstones.. IN SPAAAAAAAAAACE! 2. it was never funny or even particularly interesting, which is quite a feat to achieve when you have flying cars and robots. 3. their problems are mundane and not at all interesting to kids, much like the flintstones. 4. the comedy never took any chances at all. it was safe and lame, and it thoroughly adhered to the blueprint laid out by other, slightly funnier cartoons of the time. it was dated even when i watched it on tv. there's not one timeless joke in the whole series. is that sufficient? it's a relic from an other time. if you enjoy(ed) it, all the more power to you but cartoons have taken such a leap since then that it would be a waste of EVERYONE's time if they decided to remake this tripe.
Well, most of the time that someone posts something like you did, it just indicates a troll looking to ruffle some feathers. But even though I disagree with you, I do appreciate you making several well thought out and plausible reasons to back up your statement from before.
i was born the night my parents went to see the Jetsons movie. my mom always feels compelled to remind me of that when it is brought up.
The Jetsons is waayyy better than most of the cartoons of today. It will always be a classic

First carpet burns I ever had was diving in front of the T.V. to see the globe explode as the show started, Loved the episode where Astro (Tralfaz) is discovered by his original owner and Elroy has to give him up, but a happy ending as expected.

I really hope they make the remake of the Jetsons...
When life was easy
Actually Hanna-Barbera didn't meet it's "demise". It just became part of Warner Animation when Warner acquired Ted Turner's company which owned HB at the time.
its 2014 and I haven't heard from it.
Still waiting for that big return.
I agree it should return as a live action reboot/live action movie

Wait 2014?? Thats this year, and Mark Wahlberg and Emma Stone are going to star in it!

why can't I click on "watch later" icons anymore?
I always thought it was a good cartoon though.
I'm 100% for a REBOOT cartoon and/or movie- but it might turn out WOKE.
2020 - the year of covid-19 - is already at its end and still nothing on the live action adaptation. lol
The Jetsons is coming officially to MeTV this Valentine's Day
Still no color in the future lol
A History of Yogi Bear would be nice
*Sigh* What is it with Hollywood trying to ruin classic cartoons with live-action movies. What's next? Johnny Quest? Secret Squirrel? *STOP THE MADNESS*
A live action Johnny Quest,? That could be cool
Johnny quest do you mean Johnny test that might actually be good if the cgi is realistic and isn't run down production
No, he means johnny quest. Johnny test sucks
Does anyone know why they changed the artstyle for the jetsons? I hate the artstyle after season 3

Now:the jetsons & WWE: robo-wrestlemania!
In future they had flying car, Robot Maid, House in high surface but not a Laptop, Smart TV and Smartphones.
2062? Really? I heard the Jetsons were supposed to take place in the Year 2001 or 1999

LoL a 1990's Jetson movie is more progressive then today's GOP
Took the words right out of my mouth, well, technically that would be impossible since words are an intangible force, but you know what i mean.
why would you remake this show? it sucked then and it sucks now.
Any reason why it sucked or are you just making sweeping statements like every other troll?

no no no, please don't do a lvie action version of this. It will not end well.
the jetsons were racist
