I agree that Toothless is smarter than the other dragons. He was presumably the first to break free of the Red Queen's command and is able to basically hold a conversation with Hiccup in the second movie
Night Furies are also Strike Class dragons, and those are described as having extreme intelligence. It also explains why Toothless took so much longer to train; he remembered Hiccup’s initial attempt to kill him and was smart enough to not trust the first human that was nice to him
I don't know if you noticed this but the Red Death's mouth filled with a green gas before she died. That would have been ignited into fire inside her mouth. This is why the Zippelback is so unique since it has to release the gas AND THEN ignite it with its other head. Its honestly so cool
It is!! I imagine that because it can travel outside their mouth before exploding, it allows them to create bigger or wider explosions apposed to an explosion restricted to their mouth and where they are aiming.
I remember seeing this movie in theaters for the first time when I was 26. When it was revealed that Hiccup was an amputee, I remember being shocked at first because no mainstream animated movies aimed at families had done that before (at least any that I could think of). Then immediately following the shock, I got a little emotional just because I couldn't _imagine_ what Hiccup was going to do for disabled children - especially the children with prosthetics - to be able to say "he's like me". I can't imagine the impact he's had on Gen Z and beyond in that regard. Anyone who grew up on these movies, really. Then the fact that it's never a big deal again from that point on makes it even better. It's not focused or harped on, he's not treated differently, it's just part of who he is. And he adapts to the point that you have to _remind_ yourself that he has a prosthetic foot, showing kids that just because their body may be different it doesn't mean it has to stop them from being able to live like everyone else and be seen for who they are instead of only their disability. I know it seems overly sappy but I've always been really big on diversity of all kinds in children's media because there's just so much value in kids being able to see themselves in the media that they consume while growing up.

Toothless is part of the Strike Class of Dragon, which is generally considered more intelligent than most other dragons. Toothless was just the first dragon Hiccup tried with, so when he befriended other dragons he knew what to do already.

Also probably quite significantly, Toothless was trapped and _injured_ when Hiccup first met him. The fact that he was already in a compromised and vulnerable position would not have made Toothless particularly inclined to extend trust to anyone.
@@rdevries3852 Yeah for sure, I found it interesting though that the Light-Fury in the third movie which is like a female version of the night-fury is just as cautious. The thing about Stoick that makes him so hard to hate sometimes is the moment of realization of what he just said after the fight with Hiccup. Stoick loves his son a lot and since he's all he has left from Valka he's very dear to Stoick, but with how different they are he finds it hard to understand his son. Especially since Stoick is Chief it means he's always busy looking after the village and it's people who he deeply cares about. Stoick through the TV shows also grows much closer to Hiccup and they understand each other a lot more, bonding like a true father and son should. There's a lot of character development that isn't shown in these movies and it makes me upset when people base the characters only off the movies and not the CANON SHOWS TOO!! People also say things like Stoick doesn't care for his son when he fought a whole dragon with no weapons to save him! He could have just let him die when Hiccup was being chased but he went to protect his son, and when you think about it in the eyes of the chief would you fight a dragon without any weapons just to save a single person or would you rather leave that single person to die and instead make sure you keep these dragons you have captured and kill them so there's fewer dragons to fight? Normal chiefs would say “Clearly I'll let the kid die” but Stoick said no, so if he didn't care about his son why would he choose to save him when no one in the village would have judged him for it as no one likes Hiccup. I think Toothless took longer to trust because not only was he wounded, he was _grounded._ And just as Gobber said, "A grounded dragon is a dead dragon."
Well, part of why Stoick is so set in his ways is the fact that he watched (as he tought) his beloved wife killed by dragon. Like, no wonder that he hated them so much.
I don't know if anyone's ever noticed this but I noticed it after watching HOTD and realising that dragonfire wouldn't really hurt another dragons skin but Toothless' does. Is that what makes Strike Class dragon's shots so powerful because I would imagine a gronkle would have a similar effect since their fire is made of molten rock and Toothless'is plasma
I disagree, dragon fire does hurt other dragons it's simply that their dragon hide is essentially resistant to the extremely hot temperatures and this is why their hide can be used as a shield against their fire. I mean they're dragons, they breathe fire lol so of course their hide will be super strong and also very resistant to the heat but they still possess nerves and can feel things so it still hurts when another dragon hits them with their fire it just doesn't burn them to pieces.
@@jeremymcginge9768 that’s what I meant I think. Toothless and a Gronkle’s “fire” is just very strong and would hurt other dragons much easily because of the force it would hit them with. We have seen however that dragons with especially hot fire can hurt each other. That does make a lot of sense
@@vashtinayagar1325 it's not the heat of the fire, obviously if it's way hotter it will hurt as they're incredibly resistant to the heat but not immune to it so eventually it will be too hot. Their fire still hurts each other but to them that's .more similar to a human hitting another human

I absolutely love this movie... and yeah, Astrid is best support once she realizes what is going on. Even his dad... how unashamed he is to come around. But yeah, love that they're both missing... part of themselves on the same side. The symmetry of it all. I'm very glad that you've got the other two reactions up already XD
Yeah exactly. Kinda shows how much more important it is to have supportive people in your life that are open minded than simply people who agree with you.
@@thecocoacouch I love the support between Hiccup and Astrid. I thought I'd found my own Astrid, but... it turns out I didn't. Still, I'm going to keep looking.
Also, there is an outstanding video essay about the way the Test Flight song is a union of Toothless' musical theme and Hiccup's musical theme - the way that they compete at first and then are working in perfect harmony together in the end... I love it, and it makes me appreciate the scene 100% more!
That wasn't out of being petty though 🤣😂 he did it because he saw the way she was treating his friend and he didn't like it but he also could clearly see that hiccup cared for her, he was getting back at her for it and when she apologized to hiccup (not to toothless) he forgave her as well which shows a lot of intelligence lol. It wasn't him being petty 😂🤣
As someone who has seen and owns the whole series (including the mini series and rtte on Netflix) This will forever be one of my favorite movie sagas 😊! Great reaction
I wouldn’t say that Toothless is more intelligent, but in the TV series it is stated that there’s very little night furies, so they’re more solitary than other dragons.

Right! I guess it would just be a matter of momentum and technique when it comes to using heavy tools? You got me thinking about it and it makes sense.
@@thecocoacouch blacksmiths are strong but not "built". Aka they have dense muscles due to lower weight with higher reps, vs high weight, low reps. Hiccup would probably be stronger than he looks.

They discovered people did beekeeping 10,000 years ago sure but only in 1609 was the world made aware of a “queen bee” controlling the hive. Sure it’s possible the Vikings knew about this…just shocked me that Astrid of all people knew about it 😆
@@thecocoacouch 👍👍 Astrid seems to be ahead of the game with several things in this series. I guess thats why Astrid and Hiccup get on so well. If you have not watched it yet, the Christmas special "Gift of the Night Fury" reveals another one of her 'interesting' inventions. "Dragon Riders of Berk" series is also not a bad series. it fills in the blanks between the 3 movies.
"They're like a mixture between lizards and cats" - in response to seeing them chase a dot of light I'll have you know, having owned a bearded dragon before, at least SOME reptiles do chase laser dots kinda like cats do.
I guess people miss it, but there's a very important moment during the confrontation between Hickup and Stoic. After Stoic has told Hickup "you're not my son" and walked out, we see him outside, and you can see the weight of what just happened hit him. His face takes on a look of regret, and he even stumbles, before going back to being determined. Stoic realized he went too far, but his pride as a viking and his duty as chief won't let him go back on his word, and he knows it probably wouldn't fix what he just broke. It's a very humanizing moment for Stoic, that shows us that the kindness we see in the sequels was always there.
I don’t see how it can be overlooked. It’s kinda a crucial detail in his character arc. Stoic always puts the village first even over his son and that’s his breaking point. It’s a horrible moment but strictly as a “leader” it’s very admirable how far he’s willing to go (even if he is being foolhardy and horrible to his son)
one thing i havent seen many pick up on yet is the fact that toothless revealed that hiccup was okay only after stoick said he was sorry. similar to when he stopped flying around after astrid apologized.
I love this movie so much, I've just been watching everyone else react to it so don't be surprised if you see me gushing over it in the comments. This is my fave of the trilogy AND of Dreamworks!
The vikings don't use their brains they just use force and hiccup isn't so strong but smart he is patient and learns slowly he becomes skilled like fighting and his strength and is brave and a great guy and person and it's crazy how he gets treated horribly cus he a newbie basically to the training like it ain't his fault cus he wasn't allowed to he wasn't given a chance
28:33 it’s more like he is the last of his kind and needs to protect himself the other dragon’s where east to tame for hiccup because he knew what to do because he’s practice with toothless
9:40 I don't know for sure but I can imagine that, forced acceptance doesn't change anything. They would only tolerate him in Gobbers present and still treat him the same behind Gobbers back. And maybe he thinks Hiccup should earn their respect. It would feel way better than knowing they only tolerate you because someone makes them.
23:02 - funny that you would say that, Vikings were incredibly into beekeeping, if the Mayan/Ancient Egyptians hadn't invented it they probably would have because they used honey for EVERYTHING. food, alcohol, medicine and even religious stuff like offerings and rituals.
Well beekeeping has been dated back to over 10,000 years. It’s the knowledge of their being a “Queen Bee” that was only confirmed around 17th or 18th century. It doesn’t take very long for even primitive cultures to discover bees and honey and then eventually “keep” them but finding out there is a single bee that controls the rest of them was mostly undiscovered. It’s fine it’s a fictional film so who cares but I doubt if it was based in reality that a small island of Vikings figured that out on their own centuries before it became common knowledge.
5:06 Nooo, not "winter is coming". As soon as I started (and almost finished, I'm on season 8) watching Game of Thrones, I started seeing and hearing things from there everywhere LMAOOO😭

I love this movie plus the rest of them Hiccup and Toothless are a great team, Astrid is the cool badass young Viking who thinks she's the best then changes throughout the movie as does Stoik.
I remember seeing it in imax 3d, and they said the flying sequences in 3d were better than Avatar's and I agree without contest! Yo see some good scenery in Avatar but you didnt really feel like you were flying with them.... THIS though! You could feel the speed, altitude, and scale in every scene. Hell even the end battle with th giant dragon chasing hiccup and toothless made you feel tiny!
Now that I think about it, it's like bull fighting. The book of Life is another #movie that follows this approach of standing out and going against the current. Ooh, like following Jesus. ❤
The other kids like they are bullies and all except for Astrid are scared running away aswell from the dragons and they all even Astrid didn't take down the dragon they failed aswell but are thinking they have any day about hiccup is beyond stupid.
15:50 the Vikings probably feel like they have no purpose if not fighting dragons but they don't have to have a war like they keep starting it like a obviously if you attack the dragon then the dragon will obviously defend itself, the Vikings don't use their brains they just keep using force . Theres no reason to kill the dragons,if you show you not a threat then the dragons are chill like no one has to stupidly give their lives up for something stupid like killing dragons starting wars
Yet all the other dragons immediately trusted the children and then the whole village who for so long were literally murdering their fellow dragons on a regular basis. I think what you say is certainly a part of it but it still doesn’t explain why the other dragons were so trusting when toothless wasn’t. I think it has more to do with his emotional intelligence and you also see them at their bond is much deeper than the other dragons relationships with their Vikings.
@@thecocoacouch oh, no, certainly. I'm not saying that Toothless isn't also intelligent enough to doubt and distrust more than others. he's one of the smartest dragons. it makes sense. but my opinion is that his main distrust toward Hiccup came from, you know, the fact that Hiccup shot him down and prevented him from flying on his own. anyway, your videos are really nice.
@@Drake844221So nice to hear ppl enjoying it too. I loove this scene and soundtrack, almost can't handle how good it is :')
28:27 the reason is because toothless is so petty, that's obvious when he refuses to get down gently
That’s a reason sure. Intelligence is a huge factor
10 secs in and I allready love it!!!
That's honestly the single best sound the internet has ever produced!!!😂😂😂
SAME BROOOO IM DIYINNHGGGGGGG🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Funny detail, when Gobber comments about trolls only stealing left socks, it’s because he doesn’t have a right foot.
Who doesn’t want one, imagine getting mugged and a dragon flies out of the sky and chomps on the thieves lmao.
Dang 😂 love that that’s the first thought.
Ah interesting. Makes sense. 🍺
There are no other Night Furies than Toothless, movies and TV shows have stated that multiple times.
@@frixxer87 Have you seen the third movie?
@@thecocoacouch Yup, I don’t want to spoil it, but just know that whatever you think is a Night Fury, is just a subspecies and not an actual Night Fury.
@@frixxer87 yeah I figured. I just remember seeing a bunch of them in a shot (spoiler) in the next movie (in a location we cannot discuss until the third movie reaction) 🤣
I'm surprised you didn't react to Stoick instantly realizing his mistake when he slams the door on Hiccup, but needing to move forward anyway
23:05 You actually don’t need much muscle to be a blacksmith! As long as you can swing a hammer (they’re never super heavy, maybe 5lbs) then you can be one! That and avoid burning yourself but that’s not a strength thing. The only thing I can think of that would take tons of strength is if you had to move your anvil god forbid 😅
Hiccup would probably be stronger than he looks.
they did actually do a special dreamworks intro for that one... if you look close to the right of the moon, toothless flies by
Love the film. The animation, score, voice acting are great. Gerard Butler with his Scottish accent.
I was seriously dying that entire intro from that edit. It shouldn't have been that funny, but it was. 💀
I wonder how much of Gobber's speech was Craig Ferguson's idea. His humor works very well.
I bet he got some chances to improvise a little.
Favourite movie series, happy to see you reacting to this. I recommend Megamind next, it's one hell of a blast I think you'd enjoy.
Definitely will do it soon! Cheers 🍻
A quick breakdown for ages in the franchise (been heavily discussed in various forums):

Dragons: Gift of the Night Fury --- 14 y/o
DreamWorks Dragons (s1 & s2) --- 15y/o

HTTYD 3 --- 21 y/o (30 y/o in epilogue)
HTTYD Homecoming --- 30 y/o
He isn’t really so much a blacksmith as he is an engineer
The 2nd and 3rd movies are just as good! The 2nd is my favorite!
Yeah I love the second one.
Toothless reminds me of my green eyed black cat. So cute
Bee keeping goes back 10,000 years.
"They're like a mixture between lizards and cats" - in response to seeing them chase a dot of light
I'll have you know, having owned a bearded dragon before, at least SOME reptiles do chase laser dots kinda like cats do.
Definitely one of my favorite animated movies - if not my absolute favorite. ❤
8:06 Best Clip EVER!!!
28:33 it’s more like he is the last of his kind and needs to protect himself the other dragon’s where east to tame for hiccup because he knew what to do because he’s practice with toothless
That’s definitely a theory. I do think it would be a lot easier to give other dragons a belly scratch than a night fury though 😂
I can’t wait for the live action version of this
This is my favorite trilogy! Thank you for reacting it) I hope you will react other parts of this perfect franchise.
I will soon!!! I can’t wait.
8:08 best
Actually your right, Night Furies are extra smart than other dragons 👍
Discovered your channel today and been watching several of your videos :D Just want to say it's so awesome to be called a marshmallow at the beginning of every one hahaha. Your reactions are brilliant & so is your epic cocoa mug! :D Vibes here are great :D
25:21 were the vikings so blind and stupid they couldn't see that toothless was there to save hiccup and protect him
24:56 the father saying stop the fight like what fight everything was fine
You should react to the shows too. There so good at storytelling, carecter and world building. There all canon to the trilogy, and in my opinion it is better then the movies. Especially Race to the edge. 😃
I saw a lot of the show when they came out and I enjoyed them ☺️
@@thecocoacouch You should react to Race to the edge. It is the newest one, and it is on Netflix. It would be interesting to finally se someone react to it. 😃

Aw cheers! I really appreciate that *takes mental snapshot as well of comment* 😂😂
Forgot to leave a comment yesterday 👍Also I agree with what you said about dreamworks switching out their logo. Guess they are trying to change it to be more modern but honestly it was fine.
I feel kinda neutral about it. Disappointed we don’t get a unique intro but apparently before each movie the intro will be slightly different each time with different characters given the spotlight so that’s cool.
Hiccup is very skilled and talented and bravest cus the other Vikings like they act all tough but they go straight with attacking cus they afraid.
They should praise hiccup for things he can do instead of bullying him on things he can't do
here are the ages, confirmed by books and movies
first movie: 15
rtte: 18
second movie: 20
third movie: 21
end of third movie and the latest little specials: 31
22:02
A magic carpet ride
Literally but just for HTTYD
6:36 Indeed it's not that random 😅 Like Gobber most people haven't realized, why "..only the left ones.." - that's because Gobber has only left socks for his remaining foot! They can't steal the right ones because he has none...😂
😆 I never put that together. Makes his confusion make even less sense.
@@thecocoacouch he’s just a silly guy 😅
The cheerful "ᴹᴼᴿᴺᴵᴺᴳ!" after aggressively roaring is a personal favorite 😂
Also since I saw someone saying it, imma comment so that when you get famous I can say I have been watching you since the beginning Lol.
Lol 😂 thanks man! I’m investing so much time into this ‘side-hustle’ haha
12:00 once seeing the human isn't a threat like hiccup kicked his dagger away and the dragon lowered his defenses.

I’m so glad u enjoyed HTTYD. I don’t blame ya I want a dragon too! Lol! They’re my favorite movies and toothless is my fav dragon. These films and GOT r the reason why I want to ride a dragon. Wait until u get to the sequels it’s gonna get crazy. Cool fact about the Troll left sock thing at 6:30. It’s an Easter egg reference to lilo & stitch because stitch likes to steal people’s left shoe and the directors of this movie directed Lilo & Stitch.😊😁🐉🔥
Oh you’re kidding!?!? I never realised that! That’s hilarious. Yeah I’ll be filming the sequels shortly. Takes a while for me to get through everyone’s requests AND do what I want to do when uploading 3 videos a week.
@@thecocoacouch Yup for real (😁)! Take your time dude no rush! 👍🏼👍🏼
You have to remember that Hiccup’s mom was killed by the dragons.
😏
well…
HTTYD is amaaaaaazing! I use its soundtrack to write to. Ugh so glad you’re watching it.
I never noticed the dragons they take down in the fight at the start are the dragons that end up being with the other kids
Gotta say, your tankard is very thematic
Hehe thanks 😂kinda liked the ridiculousness of having it instead of a normal mug.
@@thecocoacouch it's true. Also good catch noticing the pets/pests part, I feel like most reactions don't pick up on that sentence being the same
I love this movie plus the rest of them Hiccup and Toothless are a great team, Astrid is the cool badass young Viking who thinks she's the best then changes throughout the movie as does Stoik.
8:28 should celebrate peoples differences not everyone should be the same, everyone is different
That look into the camera like in the office HAHHAHA
You should react to Spirit, Bolt, and A dog's way home
I love those movies!
10:02 brawns is good but it's nothing without brains you need both but mostly brains and hiccup is smart
I wish Stoick had truly been invincible 😭😭
20:29 there's no winning with her like when hiccup failing to tame the dragon and Even when succeeding she got angry.
She jealous
Now that I think about it, it's like bull fighting. The book of Life is another #movie that follows this approach of standing out and going against the current. Ooh, like following Jesus. ❤
You should watch Damsel! It’s such a good movie! I just watched it, and I was amazed at the twists! It’s also about a dragon…
this is such a good movie, love toothless and hiccup.Thanku for your cute reviews
Yes you should definitely react to the show race to the edge it takes place between the first and second movie it’s amazing!
You could be in the movie because their is video games where you are a Viking and raise your own dragon
Hiccup shot and maimed Toothless. of course it took him longer to earn his trust
I'm watching them now to pass the time. thanks! hope you have a nice day😊
