I played this game when I was a teenager, because my mom and I love playing fight games with each other, but neither one of us understood a whole lot about the game. Now, over 10 years later, I decided to brush off my copy and actually learn how to play. This is going to be a great resource, and I commend you for making this video.

I've been playing this game ever since I was a little kid! These past few years I've been really getting into the FGC, and I knew IMMEDIATELY I had to get good at one of my favorite games as a kid! Thanks for all these tips!
I been waiting on this to come out and I can say this is a very well thought out and well crafted video especially for the first episode. Really nice job Heef. Good concise information and easy to understand in a video that's not to long or too short.
I do have just a couple things to add that I think would be helpful advice:
-For dashing and pushblocking you can use LM but it's important to note that you can also use MH and even LH if you want because of how option selects work for you (and even against you like with Chris flamethrower or Strange counter). Although I'm sure you'll cover that in a later video. Some people may want to use either LM or MH in certain scenarios they'll encounter in the future.
-Up TACs will also preserve your bounces in a combo in case you need to use bounces for the next character coming in that doesn't have a practical TAC/if you're not well versed in TACs yet. Since side TACs and down TACs do a wall bounce and ground bounce respectively you can always use up TAC to save that. However if you previously used a bounce in a combo and then do side or down TAC, the TAC will still perform the bounce as it's set to always do it.
-Don't forget also that TACing in a character is a great way to get a character in because TACs do NOT take away red health whereas a hard tag WILL take away all your red health. Same applies to DHCs; red health will stay. This difference is crucial for knowing what options to use to tag back in characters. If your character is bleeding but you need to have them in a TAC or a DHC is probably better than hard tagging and coming in with no health left.
also just in general time cards can help in the future to jump to different topics.
With the increase in the playerbase and the rise of Parsec, videos like these are really valuable and I'm hoping to see more in the future as time goes on!

All I needed to have fun back in 2011 was the ABCS magic series. This game taught me about special motions and notation and all sorts.
In old fighting games like mvc and mvc2, I thought special moves came out randomly when you spun the stick around and hit a button. Turns out, it's more nuanced than that.

I just bought MVC3 since it was on sale. I never played ANY MVC games and I have alot of experience in fighting games. Trails and everything is a joke to me but the fighting in this game is so chaotic and fun. I actually am enjoying it and your video is what making it alot more easier. I'm even alot more glad you have closed captions. I'm deaf so I always hope for subtitles on those type of videos. I appreciate that from you.

Just got UMVC3 and this is a fantastic guide to get the fundamentals and start learning. I was shocked to find there weren't any tutorials ingame and my only "grasp" to understand a bit of the game was the Missions for the characters I want to try out. Also very surprised to see you have a YT channel Heefnoff, your passion for fighitng games always show in chat, and on streams when playing others.

For anyone confused about the stick nomenclature for this game, it's not the traditional SF sayings you may be used to. Numeric is like this:

But it’s just such a beautiful and exciting game , I always would play it in arcades and had a vague idea of what was happening but as it turned out I had very little knowledge. Without the directions onscreen I wouldn't have been able to tell how to perform a snapback, "quarter circle forward" makes more sense honestly.

This is a pretty good video, just a minor correction:
Hard tagging is not just holding any of the assist buttons.
Hard tags are tags that happen during a combo.
Raw tags are the ones that happen outside of combos. For those who don't know, raw tagging MIGHT be a great thing to do in situations where you have no idea what's going on. Just keep in mind that this is a double edge sword. It is as good as it can be bad.
This is a great start for beginners for sure, keep it up!

I got done dirty by my roommate after we both started to watch RussianBadger and Lythero play UMvC3, I knew some stuff solely from watching, but this game is definitely harder than it looks, so these guides are really useful, we're both absolute trash at the game, he's just innately good at picking up games and doing crazy stuff right out the gate, I on the other hand need stuff like guides and such, hard to call yourself a rival when all you do is get bodied and win once every like 10 matches. Awesome work, gonna be using these guides to finally even the playing field with my roommate >:3

@Heefnoff thank you for this video I come from a NRS title background when it comes to fighting games but, I happen to love marvel characters and this game looks like a hell of a lot of fun but, I’ve always sucked at tag fighters because, I mostly come from a 1 on 1 fighting game background mostly consisting of NRS titles like Injustice and Mortal Kombat however, I played those very casually and am just now getting in MK11:Ultimate with my friend competitively and I want to learn this game on the side by myself to be exposed to more types of fighters besides just one on one fighters and I have played this game casually in the past with my uncle but was never very good even though it was fun and I want to get really good at it so I will definitely be looking forward to more videos in this series.

subscribed, I've played the game casually for a while but I've been wanting to play it competitively since I've been on a major fighting game kick lately. I mained Zero, Ammaterasu, and Phoenix Wright, but I might drop one or two of them. I'm keeping Ammaterasu, mostly because I just really like Okami
Sounds cool! If I had to pick for you, I think I'd go with Zero/Doom/Amaterasu. Zero and Doom are strong together, and Doom/Ammy have some REALLY cheap stuff, too! Stick with it!
@@heefmvc thanks for the advice! I'll try messing around with doom to try to figure him out. Any particular assist I should use with him? I know Ammy mains like using Cold Shot and Zero mains tend to lean towards two of his assists, is there one that doom players tend to use?
@Heefnoff I was kidding myself saying I was going to run She Hulk on point instead of Spider-Man who is my all time favorite marvel character so, I decided to make spider man my point character which is a good thing I haven’t gotten too deep into learning the game with she hulk on point because, that would have confused me if I decided to switch to my boy Spidey any later in the learning process.

Thank you so much! Now I know many cool stuff you can do in this game. I wanted to buy this game for along time and I finally bought this game for Black Friday and was surprised that it doesn't have a proper tutorial, only Missions mode. Also the are many things that manual doesn't tell you. The gameplay is very different from other fighting games I played.
P.S: On Delayed Hyper Combo you said L and M, but you do H and M. Does it matter which one you need to do or H is just a stronger version?
