If you're in the market for a rebuilt title Tesla or you want to rebuild a salvage Tesla from the auction there's a lot you need to know. Tesla has changed many of its policies recently and it may surprise you on how limited these cars can be. I still love my 2015 P85D that we rebuilt after it was totaled by the insurance company but it's not like owning a normal Tesla. Rich Rebuilds helps out with this one as he knows a thing or two about wrecked Teslas so enjoy and I hope this helps you out.

_No, someone paid good money to support the brand, and buy a Tesla. Even if the car has been a salvage rebuilt properly, it shouldn't be blacklisted. That said, once the car has been brought back to life the right way(and depending on a person's state laws), a non-branded title may be issued to defray the car from the bowels of Elon Musk and the 'supercharger' (no pun intended)._

I think its totally wrong for Tesla to do that. if you get in an accident, would the tesla always be totaled out. because wouldn't the car be considered rebuilt if repaired by a body shop with an insurance claim? and then won't the supercharger not work?

Yes, i think its their right to ban salvaged cars because i've seen some hacked DIY rebuilds over the years. They've already got PR nightmares with battery fires and autopilot crashes. They don't need any more bad press with salvage cars BUT i also think the company could offer owner paid inspections to get access to the super charger station. Besides, its only a matter of time before someone hacks the tesla software and tricks the supercharger stations or people have already cloned vins and are tricking the superchargers. hush... its a secret... If anyone knows if it can be done ,Damien Maguire would know

@@kruleworld From what i have read, they took away free supercharging for newer models, they probably found out it was too expensive, so now they will do their best to get as many cars off of the "free supercharging forever" scheme.
Would not surprise me if they would launch a service, where salvage cars can supercharge, but at a cost.
This video really have me, not want a tesla, even though i was sort of planning on maybe buying a Model Y in the future.
I dont like the fact that Tesla can turn features on and off.
What if Tesla suddenly decides to become uber eco friendly so they disable everyone's climate control, to save energy.
If i bought a car, that has some features, i dont want to live with the knowledge, that the manufacturer can shut down features or even the whole car, at any give time, for any given reason.
Of this is the future, i bet there will be some agencies in different countries that would want a kill switch for all electric cars.
Offcourse in the name of terrorism, but if sometime in the future, the people would dare to rise against the government, it would be handy for them to be able to disable people's cars, so they could not go to the government and overthrow them.

Nether Warrior thanks for that reply. I understand that and It makes total sense to me. But seemingly, even after they take possibly five grand to inspect the car, they don’t let you use their supercharger. Plus they can’t really control what people do to their new or non-salvaged Teslas that might screw with the supercharger network. It’s great to protect people and the network. I bought a nearly new flooded model 3 with a salvage title. There really wasn’t much wrong with it but the car computer has gotten wet and didn’t function 100%. The car computer holds the VIN and mileage so you really can’t replace it yourself, I took it to the service center and had them finish the car and program some keys. Short story long, they performed a “salvage title vehicle inspection” in which they removed and tested the battery and inspected the rest of the car, then they replaced and programmed the car computer. I drove the car for a couple weeks then returned and had the perform the “supercharging test and inspection” and now the car is 100% and supercharges fine. If you don’t want to pay the money for Tesla to test and inspect the car then fine but don’t complain that your car won’t supercharge. There is a way to get it back but you gotta pay.

So this range provided is realistic at summer, no rain, steady speed at max 100km/h or 60mph.
Now the energy app is there to tell you what is the expected range based on the distance, temperature, elevation, previous driving style, and other criterial. And for doing many many road trips, this energy app is really accurate! Really!
Rich, don’t know about your guest, but you should know that by now! Come on bro!!!

I just wanted to say that I’ve always thought “why tesla isn’t in Brazil yet?” (I’m a Brazilian). And, after seen this video, I’m certain that Elon doesn’t sell his cars here because these types of “costumer policies” are very illegal around here. If he took away any features of a car he just sold, probably he would get so many individual and Class Law suits that it would make ir unable to exist in our country.

Yep, that is very helpful. Now I know I will never own a Tesla or even look at buying anything with that name on it!

So basically don’t buy or rebuild a salvage Tesla unless you want a fancy paperweight that you can’t even use for that purpose. Got it, good information

This sounds like a good reason to convert cars with salvage title in to petrol engine projects.. 😜 Just install a large IPad in the dash and 6Ltr Camaro drive train

Sure someone clever enough can hack the car into tricking the charger to supercharge 🤔
