    I document and share my experiences on topics including computer science & software engineering. I'm a full-time Software Engineer and a part-time TH-camr. My less nerdy activities include fishing, hunting, surfing, and snowboarding. I'm just here to have some fun.

I want to get hired as a software engineer hopefully by next September or before. What do you think of the 2,3months of coding bootcamps? They claim they teach enough things so that I can get hired after the camp with decent salary 70k+. If you have any friends who went through this process as a non-major, I would appreciate your thought.
    Also, do you have any recommendations on which language I should self-study and any web sites?
    I would really appreciate your input and it would help me tons. Always enjoying your videos. Thanks!

    You said you did some blue collar jobs before realizing you wanted to do software development for a career. Did you put those blue collar jobs on your resume when applying for software jobs? I heard some ppl like to leave them off because HR ppl will judge you & not give you a call back?

    • @johnwig285
      @johnwig285 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thats not true actually. as a matter of fact, HR would love to actually hire those with blue collar background (given they meet the requirements etc) as they are more exposed with a different type of skillset from white collar and they have more empathy towards blue collar ppl.

    What would you recommend for a starting embedded programmer in terms of OS. I'm liking the idea of using Ubuntu 19.04 but also really liking win10. Have played around with a dual boot setup before.

    • @BalduinBiene
      @BalduinBiene 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should consider using Ubuntu 18.04 since it's a Long Term Support release, meaning it will be supported for 5 years while 19.04 only gets support for 9 months.

    • @Deedss91
      @Deedss91 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BalduinBiene Well isn't 19.04 with the new kernel a better choice? Don't get me wrong, both 19.04 and 18.04.2LTS work fine.

    • @BalduinBiene
      @BalduinBiene 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Deedss91 Depends on what you want to do with the OS and if you don't mind reinstalling in a few months (in case of 19.04). If you have new hardware, a newer kernel might have better support for it. But apart from that, you can also develop on older kernels without problems. There are a lot of developers using Debian which in the standard stable version uses an quite old kernel. Do you have any experience with Linux so far? If not, I would choose an LTS version of Ubuntu (18.04) or, coming from Windows, you could try Linux Mint which also offers updates for several years.

    There's a problem in our society.. To shower everyday. That's drinkable water going down the drain.
    Realise how much that is when it's used by almost every household each day, (sometimes in case of family even 3-7 times if not double that (some people or families shower twice a day)).
    Showering once or three times a week should be enough (with exception to physical labour), add towels and use a bit of water with soap to clean yourself on the important areas the rest of the days. Showering everyday is actually bad for the skin too.
    Why do you think allergies are starting to grow more common? Because we get too clean.
    Anyway, do as you please. But I find it weird how resource unaware we have become.
