    Thunder sizing is more like this:
    145: 7.38 to 7.9
    147: 7.75 to 8.25
    148: 8.0 to 8.4
    149: 8.25 to 8.625
    151: 8.5+
    161: 8.75+

    • @_Maxten
      @_Maxten 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      i think you meant 145 for the first one because you wrote 147 twice. but another thing i'd like to note is that, you can rock trucks that are no more than half of an inch too small, specifically if you have wider wheels. i had some thunder 145s on an 8.25 and had some wide 54mm conical wheels, put the washers on the inner side, added a small riser pad, and it helped balance it out a ton. it felt normal. actually made it turn way better, especially since they were thunders but if you like tight trucks, just get some really hard bushings and you're good

      Yo quick question. 145 or 148 for an 8.25 board? New skater :P

    • @_Maxten
      @_Maxten 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Santi29o 148s are recommended for an 8.25. i ride an 8.25 too but i use 147s. i find that if you go down a size you turn better and it also means your board is lighter. but thats my preference. 148s would make it feel more stable, sturdy, and solid. i actually used to rock 145s on my 8.25. i commented about it above. only downside imo is less room to grind.
      but i will say that 148 trucks are a really versatile size just in case you wanna go down or up a board size.

    I think you guys forgot Venture's size scale:
    5.0 is a 7.62" axle
    5.2 is an 8.0" axle
    5.6 is an 8.25" axle
    5.8 is an 8.5" axle
    6.1 is an 8.75" axle
    Edit: Had to change the comment since the catalog for Venture trucks changed a little bit since I first posted this comment

  • @pg4v377
    @pg4v377 7 ปีที่แล้ว +141

    A normal skater wants trucks that approximate deck width. The deck acts as a lever to rotate the truck around the pivot. Narrower trucks are more responsive to pivot; wider are less responsive. Narrower trucks are light; wider trucks are stable. To balance these considerations, the truck width should match the board.

    Their system is based on hanger width without the axle

So that was like 8 years ago and now I've been relearning how to skate and I bought an 8.5 since I'm a lot bigger than I was so I thought size 8 trucks will fit so I got destructo lows really stable but to small so I switched to 151 thunders and the stability is awesome finally got the ollie down again. thank Lance and Aaron you're the best a teaching.

    Lance, big love, but we all have google on our phones dude. Truck size charts are super easy to find. Insight would be experienced skaters telling us why they use trucks slightly wider then their board, or exactly the same width, or slightly smaller. What difference does it make, etc. The 20 seconds where Gabe talks about using lows (7:20) is the one part of this video that is genuinely helpful. More chat like this please.

    Hey guys I would say that choosing a board as a complete beginner is super hard since u dont really know what u really like at all. Guees thats why people tempt to buy a comeplete board where everything is surpose to fitt together "like a gloove xD". Anyways i personally feel that the best way to choose, is to pick ur board size first, as u sorta also went over. After that u start with a truck size thats a llitle narrower then the deck size. After that u kinda get the feeling whether u wanna go to a smaller truck or a wider truck size :D i think the wheel type is depending on what type of skating ur prefer

    +Braille Skateboarding i tried skateboarding a while go, i was not learning the right way though. I got really good at pushing on the board but my feet were all messed up, my front foot stayed in the pushing position and my back foot was sideways, i got too used to that position and it made it really hard to try the correct way. my feet made it hard to turn and it made it even Harder to turn with the fact that my trucks were so tight, i didin't know how to loosen them though, i did not have a skate tool at the time. But now that i found Braille i am going to try skateboarding made simple with a ReVive board and thunder trucks. I am going to buy a board first, then get some amgrip and try tricks on carpet with shoes, just to get the feel of the board. Then i will put my hardware and trucks on with some bones red bearings and try my best with skateboarding made simple. Thank you guys so much and i will comment when i am great at skateboarding!!! cause i know i will be with your guys help. Thanks :D

    the trucks are made and distributed with there size in millimeters, I'm pretty sure its the wheel base measured from the inside truck (not the spoke the wheel spins around). for example my long board has paris 180's on it. the length between the wheels is 180 mm. you can put larger trucks on a smaller board and vice versa. there might even be some advantages. like I know smaller trucks will give you a tighter turn radius, while bigger trucks will give you more stability. the sizing charts just keep your trucks looking symmetrical to the board as it gets wider.

    Truck height along with wheelbase, tail length, and tail steepness define how the pop of a board feels. That's what he felt when riding high trucks. You can counter that by going for a smaller wheelbase board or maybe a longer / less steep tail. Given that you have enough force in your pop, a higher truck results in much higher popped tricks. That's why I prefer a slightly larger wheelbase with Thunder Highs.

    I've been skating for about 7 yrs. trucks size after the time has come to two categories . Vert or street.
    If you wanna be a vert type person, I recommend a truck the size of your board or a little bigger. reason being is cause you will be do tricks(eventually) the let you get high air. these trucks give you a bigger center of gravity when you land, so you don't eat sh*t. If you want to fall under street, I recommend same size or a little smaller. This will reduce weight and give you a higher chance of landing the 720 Kickflip we all wish we could do

    Most important thing is the axle length which basically tells you how wide your board should be or atleast very close to that. I only skated thunders and dont bother looking up indy sizes but this is Thunders: 145's, 7.75" / 147's, 8.0" / 148's, 8.25" / 149's, 8.5"

    i've tested different size trucks on different boards and from experience, any board can take a truck that is .4 inches too big and .4 inches too small. if you're going too big, it;d be a good idea to have skinny wheels and if you're going too small having wider wheels would be better too.

    I skate a 8.25 and 139 independents but you can skate as good 149 i think it's just personal preference how heavy trucks are doesn't matter you get used to it a few grams really does not make a difference that you can skate well or not
    I think the only really important thing is how the trucks feel when turning and how long they last

    Thank you Braille for explaining this to people that don't understand Truck sizes. But I just don't understand how people who went through puberty still ride 8.0. You have big feet. You need to be riding one that should fit your feet better. I ride a 10.5, but then again, I'm not doing too many flip tricks.
