  • I'm a dentist, and I've personally A/B tested ceramic vs. metal braces on myself. Spoiler: I don't like ceramic braces, and I explain why in this video.
    Is your experience with ceramic braces the same as mine? Tell me in the comments below. 👇

    I thought I'd offer my two cents on the topic. I got my ceramic braces about 2 months ago (December 10, 2020) and I've had a great experience so far. My orthodontist offered ceramic braces for no additional cost so I thought, why not. I was able to get ceramic on the top AND bottom, which I didn't expect. I'm so glad that I chose them over metal, I've had no trouble with staining and I've eaten foods that I thought would definitely stain! (For example, tomato soup, spicy udon noodle soup) I would recommend getting pearl elastics instead of the clear ones because they are more stain resistance. I love that in photos the braces don't show up, that has helped a lot with my self confidence. The other day my roommate forgot that I even had braces! I would say that if you think ceramic braces better fit your lifestyle, and you can afford them, go for it! If anyone has questions feel free to ask in the replies, I know I was binging braces videos leading up to my appointment :)

      Hey getting mine on tomorrow,only ceramic on top I think. I’m nervous😬. Binging videos like you did lol. Did it hurt for the first few days?Did you retain a lisp or did it go away after a little while?

    • @em-yf4ri
      @em-yf4ri 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@lucashatcher3762 Hey! There's no need to be nervous, mine only hurt the day after I got them. The pain was definitely bearable and I took some ibuprofen to help. I would recommend eating soft foods for the first 3 or 4 days but I could eat harder foods after that. I never had a lisp, so I can't really sleep to that. I was surprised how fast they just felt normal, it took less then a week for me! I wish you the best of luck!

      Hey, did you have any problem like breakage while having the ceramic braces? Please reply, getting myself one tomorrow 🥺🥺 and i am so confused and nervous about it. It would be a great help.

      @@komalbhandari2523 Of course! I’ve had the braces for about 5 months now and I haven’t had any brackets break. I’ve eaten hard bread, popcorn, and chewy candies while having them on and nothing has broken! I totally understand being nervous, It was so hard for me to decide between metal and ceramic but I’m very glad I chose ceramic! In pictures you can barely see them! Which is great! Good luck, remember whichever ones you choose, they are temporary! I would also strongly recommend getting the “pearl” colored rubber bands instead of clear because the pearl ones don’t stain as much! I haven’t had any trouble with staining and I eat a lot of red, spicy foods. Good luck

    Thank you so much for this. I currently have the metal ones and I had some regrets because I am an actor and you can really see them on camera in my auditions. My manager suggested changing to ceramic and I was on the fence about it but this video let me know that I made the right decision and I will be keeping the metal ones. I’ll just have to do voice over work if they don’t want to see my braces on camera. Thank you.

    I don’t lisp because of them
    Cons:
    coffee stains

    When you say stainless steel does that mean metallic braces? Or it can still be that one wire across the teeth but metal and the little square things are still see through???
    Also once the process is done are retainers for life required with those types of braces?

    Why are we even assuming that one would want their crown to be removed? I think what's more important is how hard is the crown on the other natural teeth and the hygienic issues ..

    Does the ceramic brackets stain or get yellow after a while?

    • @emiwoooo
      @emiwoooo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      the bracket itself won't but the area surrounding your bracket and teeth might depending on what you're eating and how good you clean in those areas

      The band is the part that stains, the brackets can’t, or as the person above said, the tooth around the bracket may become yellow from poor oral hygiene

    You are comparing your own use of ceramic brackets as a dental student to removal by experienced orthodontists. I don’t think that is a fair comparison, unless there are scientific papers supporting that ceramic brackets lead to more chipping.

      @@Dacari13 That is nothing. I watched my favorite episode of Star Trek with my metal braces. I did need a mirror and had to keep my lips perched open like a fish gulping for air but that was a small price to pay to see and hear Spock and Kirk travel through time for the 20th time.

    I have some crowding top and bottom after not wearing retainers for 10 years following train tracks to initially straighten my teeth as a teenager. I didnt have any extractions with the first set of braces. In your opinion would Smile Direct work for me now to re straighten my teeth? I've heard some good reviews and others that warn this type of re alignment can cause issues with your bite afterwards?

    Wish I would’ve seen this before lol, I got ceramic so far so good 4 months in , yes cost a little more, I just didn’t want to do the metal again, opted for less noticeable. But you can still see, I get colored bands just as metals. just nervous about when they take them off 🤦🏾‍♀️hope they don’t break my teeth.

    I have found that the ceramic braces stick out further in there a lot more uncomfortable than the stainless steel. Words are just as uncomfortable because some buddy who designed braces did not put comfort in the design. No, I’m not talking about the uncomfortable part of your teeth moving that’s a given you can’t go away from that. I’m talking about these crazy ass things scraping the inside of your mouth or somebody tells me that you’re we’ll have to get used to it in your mouth will toughen up well I am 11 months into it and I still ain’t used to it. And yes I use wax probably too much but I dedicated two weeks. Do not using wax and no it’s just as uncomfortable as it was the first day as it is the 11th month
