I love your technique and soft approach, seems like common sense. With that being said, while researching, I came across Smokey Mountain Pediatric Dentistry here on TH-cam, it's their 2nd video uploaded 6 years ago and I was mortified at her approach to her own child. She pinned him down and places her heavy adult legs on top of his. If anyone can watch and give me their honest opinion, I'd love to know. Thank you for your video doctor, I believe in your approach.
Finally!!! I found a video that makes sense. The previous three videos I saw all explained that I needed to pin my infant down on the grown and forcefully brush her teeth whether she like it or not. That just seemed wrong to me. I'm glad I listened to my gut and kept searching until I found this video.

I feel so bad that I was doing this all wrong😫 now I know the proper way to teach my toddler the RIGHT WAY TO BRUSH not always in the bathroom, not have your toddler laying on the ground, start without toothpaste, make it fun!!! Brush your teeth infront of your child. Don’t force your toddler into brushing, take it slow 😁😁😁

Hi, thanks for sharing. Sending my full support. The best time to begin brushing your child’s teeth is…drum roll please…when they get their first tooth! Yes. As soon as it pokes its little edges out of the gums, teeth will begin to build up plaque. At this stage however, it is not necessary to use a toothbrush or toothpaste. Merely wrap a soft washcloth around your finger and gently wipe the teeth clean.
appreciate this video so much. watched a few others & it’s basically just teaching us to hold down & brush our childrens teeth in almost a torturous way… Glad i found this video because i felt in my heart there was a better way to go about it. my baby turned 1 yesterday she also has 8 teeth 🙀💗

I use for my 1 year old girl a silicone toothbrush thimble which of course she hates shy cries really hard but I still brush her teeth because I have to! It breaks my heart everytime. I have big hopes after seeing this video 🥹

Thank you for this video! I have a question about breastfeeding and brushing teeth during the bedtime routine. You mention not to put baby to bed with a bottle, but what is the case about breastfeeding before bedtime? If he's not too sleepy after feeding I guess I would integrate the toothbrushing routine but if he is too sleepy and I don't want to overstimulate him, is it very detrimental for his teeth in the longterm?

Such a sweet babe!! My 11-month-old has 4 on top and four on bottom! Are you sure no toothpaste? I bought tubby Todd toothpaste and have been using that. My daughter is doing really well. But I do see some orange on the two outer teeth up top. This is where I am concerned. No bottles to bed! But still nursing at night.

She's adorable, worked like a charm with my baby. He saw me brushing and brought the toothbrush to his mouth by himself. I just wonder how through i have to be, i feel even I don't brush his teeth enough, but im also afraid of hurting him.
This is a good question. Do the best you can, but it's more important to make it a good experience... Also, so that you don't have to be as detailed, avoid the foods that cause cavities in the first place! Check this out on my website, AsktheDentist.com

If your child is motivated by toothpaste, go ahead and use it, but otherwise, once thy're about 2-3 is a good time.
As soon as they have teeth. In the beginning they will only chew the tooth brush, but that is fine.
My dentist says when they get their first tooth. Only putting the size of their finger nail in toothpaste on the brush.
Great video, great advice! For a 1 year old I've been advised to brush once a day, but honestly if I leave it for after the last meal of the day she's not very cooperative because she's tired. Would you recommend brushing more after every meal even for a 1 year old?
it's important to remove any food debris from your child's teeth, especially before bed, and especially if they're eating any cavity-causing foods like rice, bread, pasta, juice, sweets, etc. If you're avoiding them, you may be okay brushing less often or at different times of the day.

How about two years old still no toothgel?.. Ive been using non fluoride toothgel to her.. I guess the orange did that to her teeth then she wont drink water.. She ate orange everyday.. Now I stopped feeding her oranges..

This is great, but my little one (9 mo) won’t let me brush his gums and when he chews on his little toothbrush, sometimes a bristle will fall in his mouth and I’m concerned about him ingesting those. Also, and what age should toothpaste be introduced?

In Poland dentists recommend brushing infant teeth (from the first tooth) with 1000 fluoride toothpaste.
We use fluoride-free paste. What do you think about this?

IF you're using Boka or RiseWell ( askthedentist.com/online-store/#toothpaste ) you can start as soon as your child is comfortable with it. Avoiding toothpaste just allows you to focus on technique and excitement without the worry of a mess. As soon as my granddaughter, Quinn, could manage it, we added a clean toothpaste (that we didn't mind her swallowing) and she actually loved it more.
I didn't saw these videos on time and my 2 years old daughter is suffering now i saw a hole in her tooth and she has pain i am so afraid what will i do now i am crying

@@gertiemghoi1840 Whenever you'd like! I like to tell parents that toothpaste is optional, since it is often much more mess than its worth. But toothpaste certainly can't hurt. If you think the taste of toothpaste can be a motivator, then I'd say go ahead, but always speak with your dentist first!

What about flossing?
I usually tell my patients that they don't need to worry about flossing, since baby teeth typically have lots of space in between them. However, if you're concerned about it, you should definitely ask your dentist!

YES! Just take a moment every day to create a positive oral care experience. Eventually, those fun moments will replace the bad one. You can do it :)

I have seen alot of toddler videos that lay the baby down between the legs and hold them down.
This is bad, your forcing them to brush. Most the time it will bite you in the ass. They will rebel later on and alot of upset emotions. If they think they chose to do it. It becomes repetition and part of the day. They may have periods were they decide they don't want to just keep all brushing togeather they will do it again. They all want to be like the group. Use that bud. No expert just a dad lol

Personally, I don't love this approach, as I find it often instills fear in the child. However, as parents, we gotta do what we gotta do, so if this is working for some parents, then that's fine. With my method, I like to use a lot of positivity and playfulness with brushing so that they think it's a fun game so the habit sticks.
No toothpaste until what age?
the "no toothpaste" recommendation is just until your child is comfortable holding and brushing on their own. Sometimes toothpaste can complicate things if they're already uneasy.

Please help my daughter is 18months old and just won't let me brush her teeth. We have both been in tears with it. She will put it in her mouth and chew but she won't let me brush. But you should have the baby sitting at a proper position so that she doesn’t move when you brush the tooth for her
