  • I combined a Lee Case Length cutter with a Forster Neck turning tool to trim to length and neck turn the cartridge case in one step. The depth of cut can be set to cut more.

The easiest way to set your cut depth on the neck turner is with a "FEELER GAGE". Pick your desired wall thickness and set the blade to just touch the feeler gage and you have 100% going to be that thickness.

Feeler gage resting on the mandrel, right?

@@robertliefveld9295 yes, place the feeler gage on the mandrel and run your cutter down until it just touches. You will be set 100% at whatever thickness you used.

@@robertliefveld9295 that's a good idea. How do you control the cutter shft align with the case to keep the neck coaxiality by freehand ? I've considered to build something similar. forster list the shaft diameter 0.49" and I plan to use a 0.5" steel shaft with bearing block. but I don't know if the cutter will fit or not and I don't have a lathe to mill it down to 0.49.

@@metric7278 The mandrel inside the neck fits without binding. Since my goal is to cut the O.D. of the neck for constant wall thickness, I keep slight pressure to one side and move the cutter in and out following the neck I.D. as close as possible. That way, the high spots on the O.D. are turned off or down to allow constant wall thickness. The alignment is not changed enough to matter, and wall thickness is much better than before.

Your going to get donuts inside the neck and that mandrel is way to loose fitting to do a precision job .

Can you show more tool details, I like the idea and just got the Forster trimmer with neck turning and do not like their cam follower system.

How did you attach the Forster neck trimmer to it?

See that video. I ground the lee case trimmer body down to fit inside the Forster neck turning tool which has a set screw in it to tighten when you get it set close to the angle of the case.

Please explain if the music is important to the process of turning the case.
