As an exmormon, this hit close to home for me. I lived with constant shame over trivial nonconformities for so long. I was sure everybody (especially leaders, and even more importantly, God) could see into my soul and could easily uncover rancorous truths about my private life. I lived in constant fear and shame for more than 30 years. The lyrics and choreography of this music video remind me of a dream I had after I learned from my dad about Mormon excommunication as a teenager. I dreamed that this kid in my class who wasn't following church standards was led to the front of sacrament meeting in shackles, flogged in front of the congregation, and formally cast out. That was not far off from the way I felt as a member of the church. In my experience and the experience of my friends and family, Mormon-mandated repentance, disfellowshipping, and excommunication are medieval, barbaric processes of self-flagellation and often public shaming that promote conformity and faith in an unjustifiable premise. Thank you, Tim, for your open treatment of the scourge of shame!

thirty years ago, we started our child in dance class. She liked it I think. Did every imaginable sort of dance. Ballet, tap, jazz, Irish dance, modern (whatever that means) and belly. You could always tell, you couldn't help but make observations and comparisons about who the naturals were. My daughter wasn't a natural but still, she liked it all. It was a parental cliche to stick your kid in dance class or gymnastics or chorus, soccer, baseball and on and on and on. Has Minchin done a musical critique on parents who are cliches? You watch these kids, in this video on the stage and see that they are the cream of their crops, they probably come from all over but towards the end, the girl up in front, in the center, you can tell she's the cream of the cream. What a melodic little gem! So glad I stumbled across a Tim Minchin special a couple weeks ago. I laugh, I get moved, and I relate. He has such a delightfully twisted sense of humor to go along with being such a musical talent.

Just noticed a blooper...Tim was wearing a stripe tie with silver on it when song started, then he had a grey stripe on on later and wen he was playing guitar no tie.......love Tim minchin and this song has lots of meanings....love it xxx
This is an amazing song by Tim, highlighting the current trend in the media and by people to simply obsess about mistakes a person makes and demand some sort of witch hunt and punishment, and the fear of people not wanting to upset others around them, and Tribal mentality, and so much more! Great stuff!
It takes an icon of one generation to build upon an icon of a previous generation. Tim has done this with all his familiar skill and talent, but reveals his genius in his work here with the kids. While my generation had the 15 minutes of fame, he's speaking to the youth about their present/future 15 minutes in the modern age of social media and political correctness. 9 months later and I still can't stop listening to this amazing song. :) Edit: Almost 2 years now, and back again. I think this year counts as the Earth's 15 minutes of shame.
The 'us vs them' mentality is exactly the kind of thing that breeds the outrage culture that he's criticizing. PC culture and outrage culture are not mutually exclusive.

Prefer the longer hair though Tim, do grow it again for us won't you. Also, take off those shoes when you're in character.
The blonde kid in the red shirt, is REALLY into it.
Here I thought he was just going to sing "3 Minutes" 5 times in a row, but no - something much, much deeper and exciting. What a fantastic video!
Yes, more please!!
I keep coming back to this song, I adore it so much. So excited for the new stuff to come, happy 2019 everyone!
This is a TUNE Mr. Minchin! 🙌🏻
9 months later and I still can't stop listening to this amazing song. :)
Edit: Almost 2 years now, and back again. I think this year counts as the Earth's 15 minutes of shame.
On Twitter, Tim said this was less about ‘PC Culture’ and more about not letting people learn and grow from their mistakes.
The 'us vs them' mentality is exactly the kind of thing that breeds the outrage culture that he's criticizing. PC culture and outrage culture are not mutually exclusive.

Yes, I agree.
So you do realize that PC culture is the largest generator and originator of that very thing, right? It's their fault.
@@genericname8727 yes they are. You're a hateful person and you're trying to justify it.
@@genericname8727 Saying something is 'less about x than it is about y' is not the same as saying 'it is not about x'. Far from it in fact - it's literally a tacit acknowledgement that it is, at least partially, about x but not as much as it is about y. Tim is a wordsmith and comedian - I have no doubt that his choice of wording and the meaning implied by them are deliberate.
Fantastic song: video, choreography, dancing, acting, musicianship, message and beautiful eyes, Tim!
The big boi is back!
The kids are doing a great job acting an dancing! Lovely to watch. And the song is awesome as well 👍
I see Tim, I click and I like :)
Mike Smith same here 😄
I'm a simple man too.
I usually don't like coreography and dancing in general. But those kids are awesome! The energy, the expression. The song and the video are so meaningful and so fun!
we miss youuuuuu
Album's worth of song releases in 2019? Hearing that made me genuinely happier, can't wait!
Now that's a proper logo for twitter: a pillory.
Damn, I absolutely LOVE Tim’s stuff! Amazing talent coming out of his ears!!!
The kids are really good 👏👏
you are the hero we need but don't deserve which is all the more reason I am so glad you exist
A new Tim Minchin video! Well that almost makes up for the awfulness of 2018.
You are by far my favorite musician. People throw around the words musical genius allot, but you truly are objectively a true musical genius. I love your comedy but your music is timeless and true. You make me proud to be Ginger. Even if it is just my ginger beard, and I have no ginger bread lol. (My beard is bright red and freckled so I can say that word.)
The end when he's glued to his phone in an empty room....
You see people filming throughout the video, presumably to post somewhere. At the end I assume he’s checking the response.
@@ribby9069 hes enjoying his fifteen minutes
Subtext is everything. I hope a lot of the fans are about to be more enlightened than angry. It's gonna be a fun ride.
