Junk yards are my jam. If it has four wheels and an engine I want to learn about it. Tom Cotter is the real deal. I’ve been watching this series for almost a year now. I found a listing in order finally. This is so cool!!
Dear Hagerty, These video are just so much fun to watch. I thoroughly enjoyed every bit and am looking forward to more. I can watch stuff like this all day long!!
Dear Jesse, Thanks for writing. We're glad you enjoyed the videos and completely agree about watching stuff like this all day. In fact, I spend most days doing just that. (Don't tell me boss.) Take it easy!
I have several of Tom Cotters books that I have thoroughly enjoyed. Glad to see some of the same concept on the small screen. Don't forget though, Tom, that the thing that made your books interesting is not only the car but also the story and the personalities behind the car. Hopefully, Tom will be able to bring more of that to the screen.
Fascinating to see so many cool models, yet sad to see them rotting away out in the yard. I guess everyone has their own definition of "collection". (Great idea for a series, btw.)
I would happily take that Morris Minor before any of those "muscle cars." And Tom, I never get tired of seeing your '39 (?) woody, that you use as your daily driver. Great show. Keep them rolling.
Love seeing someone else who persuses and understand s the hobby of our cars of the past and for me the muscle cars have been very much a part of my life I own a 71 transam 455 full resto done last year and moving on now with a 70 esprit 350 project please try and get more old birds outta them barns and backyards I'm looking as well here in southern Indiana thanks and keep em clean
Just to clear a small matter up. The Morris Minor shown is in fact a New Zealand car. The label shown shows the year of first registration (Just below the VIC = Vehicle Inspection Certificate required) which in this case is the 4month of 1958. The big numbers with the smaller number in front are the date the registration of the vehicle expires (26 day of the 6 month of 2000). The AU6277 is infact the cars registration plate number and the "G" is the licence class of the vehicle which in this case I believe is "General". Finally the sticker in the top center of the windscreen is the W.O.F Licence (Warrent Of Fitness) which indicates the date that the next safety inspection is required.
Car 'collections' in these ultra humid states are depressing. Perfectly restorable cars turning in to moss covered rust piles. Never understood the hoarding mentality and why people would rather watch these cars dissolve in to the ground than let them be bought and restored
If it were not for someone that had the foresight to spend their hard earned money, and save a car to there back yard or where ever, where do you think it would be today ? Give them some credit.
They need to have the foresight to let them go before they become unrestorable. Letting the cars sink in to the ground and turn in to piles of weeds or moss is hardly saving them. So while they may have had good intentions originally, it is doing a disservice when they reach this state.
Correct. However, the hoarding mentality is a detriment to the car community as a whole. Hoarders think they are helping by keeping it all in one place, when it really would be of more benefit to accept they aren't going to get to them and let the cars move on to someone that has the means and the motivation to restore them before it is too late. But yes, if they want to be dicks and let their stuff rot away, that is their right.
I met Tom Cotter at Road Atlanta last weekend driving his 63 Corvette , my son Jerry is one of the mechanics who service that car at Sasco Sports , That is a hell fast Car and He is a hell fast driver
Tom is right! I find cars all the time hidden in back yards, beside of houses etc! Still find Camaros, Chevelles & GTO's as well. If you search the alleys & nooks & crannies of your town you will for sure find something good!
I never knew the difference between a Morris Minor and a Mini Cooper til about 3 weeks ago in Oak Creek, Wi. I bumped into a guy at a gas station who had a Minor that was originally from Australia with a big British flag on the roof. He also had raced many micro cars since the 60's and was very passionate about those cars. It was a very interesting conversation about those cars and there history. Very cool stuff, love your channel.
That is a New Zealand rego not Australian. The NZ rego number was AU6277. The New Zealand AA sticker and the service sticker are also clear indicators of which country it was driven in.
When i saw that charger 69 at 7:35 my heart broke. I would like to have one of those, even in that condition. Simply car that I fell in love with since i was kid.
1st time 2 c this sho I dig on it like Tom approach to the owners and finds 2 sho us keep the finds coming to us. And ur sho great sho made in the U.S.A
WOW I'm 2 years late,I think if I had your job I'd be the poorest biggest hoarder around I'd be lost, bewildered, trying to hire everyone I knew and didn't know to fix these cars. Great video thanks. 😎🏁🏁🍺
After watching about 2 minutes, I hit subscribe. This is like crack, once you get a hit of it, you're hooked. Great video, I can tell you are very knowledged in the world of automobiles
Hi, really enjoyed watching these barn finds.someone may have already mentioned this but the blue Morris minor is from New Zealand NOT Australia as you said in this video. The AU6277 in the windscreen is the registration number for this car when it was here in New Zealand
The Morris Minor was not an Australian vehicle. It was a New Zealand registered vehicle, the AU is irrelevant, the cars license plate was AU6277. In NZ the plate has no significance, it is just a number. The VIC does not refer to Victoria, it refers to the car being registered in NZ as a VintageCar (VIC). Love the show!
I just found this show and this is my second episode. I love it. Wish I had found it before. It's like Junkyard Gold. Or should I say Roadkill's Junkyard Gold. Only Steve Magnante does an episode in one yard
The Rebel is awesome, but that model didn't come with the 327, that would have come with the second gen AMC v8. The 327 was last offered in the 66 AMC Rambler Rebel Classic, which is the car that I'm restoring on my channel currently. They used this as a transition into the Rebel name. Very cool cars.
slammed60beens Thanks a lot for the extra info. Looks like Haggerty was wrong for the first time time about the AU reg and Victoria. That little carminative have such an interesting history.
+slammed60beens . You are correct the car was last I on the road 6th month of 2000. It was first registered in Nz 4th 1958. VIC mean vehicle inspection certificate required.
I find stuff so close to visible, just off serious traffic areas. Morris Minor AMBULANCE, in Charleston, SC, just up the shore from this one. You'd have to FOLD up a body, but a tiny roll bar to tie to, and a sticker on the windshield to allow speeding. Minors are cool, as have five lug 14 inch rims to begin with. Also a little bit of hood length to work with. Cool show.
I prefer old cars because they look good and you can ride in style I mean look at the shape of these car bodies and stuff they look amazing mostly the lights and everything else Today’s cars don’t look too good Here are good years with cars 60s 70s 80s 90s until 2015 those were the good days This is coming from a 13 year old
as an air-cooled VW enthusiast, i sure hope that bay window at 0:40 will be shown soon. and those beautiful karmann ghias, i wish i could find one of those near me!
You are right their are thousands of barn vehicles still out there I found a 1957 ford f100 original powertrain with a 289V8 three on the tree starts runs just needs new tires and some restoration.
So, I love barn/field/yard find cars I actually feel heartache when I see cars like these... Which is why I love seeing them pulled from this type of obscurity and brought back to driving condition (at the very least). This series while really whetting my appetite for old iron, does nothing to assuage my heartache at seeing these icons sitting and rusting away! Of course there are cars out there, any of us who understand that fact don't need to be told. What I want to know is will these guys sell, obviously as evidenced by the for sale signs SOME will, but is Bubba willing to sell that Morris? What about instead of just showing people these cars, you put people in touch with these cars and as a follow up show them going onto trailers! Something perhaps for another show would be to return to each car as their restoration progresses. Thanks for showing all these great cars, but you do leave me wanting!
+MISTERComaToes Thanks for your comments! Some of the cars we find are for sale, some aren't, but we have the contact information for anything you see, and if the owner is willing to be contacted, we're happy to make that connection!
Gday guys , just a comment about the Morris Minor , I'm a Kiwi and can confirm its from New Zealand , the AU6277 was the number plate , 4/58 was when it was first registered , can't remember what the VIC stands for . Great video though , love the old classics, cheers Pete
HI Tom great show! Some info about that morry minor - It's ex New Zealand that white insert on the left side of the windscreen - that's our rego licence label it shows the date we've paid up till. The VIC I'm fairly sure means Vehicle Identification Certificate. The AU part is just the first 2 letters of what was once the number plate so the plate was AU6277. We changed from an old registration system and went to that system in 1987. Cos that one is an AU plate it was probably registered here not long after or during 1987. The letters on new plates just kept clocking up alphabetically and now the plates all have 3 letters followed by a number. We called those pop out blinker things "trafficators" (thats possibly a british term) and we call windshields "windscreens" among other kiwi terms like "mate", "eh" and "sweet as". Someone must have emigrated stateside cos I cannot figure out WHY someone would bring a bog standard morry minor to the usa?
I just checked that plate number and it's still in the system here showing it was first regoed here 15 April 1958 and that the last odo reading was 41551 miles on 10 June 2000 and rego was cancelled 23 March 2001. Ownership changed to the last owner on 31 Oct 1972 at 19628 miles. "Theftability" - 1 in 95000! This from a website we have here called carjam for checking cars out before buying. Above info is provided free, more info upon paying a few dollars. Couldn't help but look into that one - almost unheard of to see a kiwi car of that sort end up on an American tv show - especially with the rego label still there - I've found many a car here in NZ with far less information available. Normally its us bringing usa cars here to NZ! Thanks again Tom and sorry if someone already pointed this info out but I couldn't help myself as a morry minor was and still is one possibility for me to own a flat top motor without too much cost. A morry minor always pricks my ears up. Keep up the good work.
Great concept for a show. I live on an island in Washington State, people have been giving me cars for years just because I will move them. I got a free '80 El Camino with a title and no key I popped the hood, (the entire front end is from a Oldsmobile cutlass supreme grill to doors) and someone had put a mercruser boat engine in it with headers, intake and street carb. it also has the airhorn that sings La cucaracha. its so hard to pass up some of them but i do because i have limited storage.
The morris is from NZ. just did rego check on carjam and it is on it, a nz vehicle info site. My mum had one exact same. Cool to see one from here so far away.
Hi guys, the Morris Minor is a New Zealand car and the registration plate here was AU6277, last registered here in 6/2000, G means car license. Thought I’d help with that useless information. PS love your shows 😊
Hello Tom ,love your ride and love this channel and thank you for sharing your travels and awesome finds. I live in western Canada and at present I am trying to save a 1960 ElCamino. Lots of cancer for sure but I am determined to save it. I am having trouble finding replacement chrome for this unit. Perhaps you can advise me . I have searched tons of websites to no avail. I require the side body chrome that runs down both sides as well as the chrome trim that goes around the top rail of the cargo area on both sides. Thanks for your time and happy hunting.
Love your videos! You should try coming to southern Maine. I work hvac and I'm all over the place and meet lots of people with cars that need tlc. Wish I had the money to restore them.
chevy Yea. I love the guys response about why it was called a 396 instead of a 402. Saying it was because it was called that for so long, they didn't bother to change it. The real reason was there was a 400ci cap at GM for some cars
I ordered a 1972 ElCamino,350 with factory 4 spd.Engine was bad with carbon build up. I paid $ 3470 .oo and waited on a four week delivery date . I kept it 5 yrs and gave it to my brother .. Times have changed.
Junk yards are my jam. If it has four wheels and an engine I want to learn about it. Tom Cotter is the real deal. I’ve been watching this series for almost a year now. I found a listing in order finally. This is so cool!!
Keep this series going please, it's so good to watch.
+Ross Fitzpatrick Thank you! We just wrapped filming in Napa and Fresno, so more episodes to come.
+Hagerty totally agree, lovin' these uploads!
@@ObsoleteOddity Your channel isn't too bad either Oddie
@@Mark-nu5vg Cheers mate :)
I'm glad there are people like that, repairing and reclaiming great man-made machines.
Everything about this series is just so sweet. What a treat! Please don't change a thing. Greetings from Brussels.

I have a '71 SS Chevelle convertible for sale just like the one in this video, except it is in mint condition. Red with black stripes.
bfcm3 I like to get pics of your Chevelle and is it a bucket seats car ? Interested in it.
Yes, it is.. original 454 4-spd with the 12 bolt rear. Red with black interior and black top and band-aid stripes. email me nealsellscars@gmail.com
This needs to become a tv show
No it doesn't, just look at what happened to roadkill when tv fuckers got involved
Lobmin your right
I love the Morris Minor! I also like how Tom doesn't just focus on American iron but instead sees the value in all makes and models.
I have several of Tom Cotters books that I have thoroughly enjoyed. Glad to see some of the same concept on the small screen. Don't forget though, Tom, that the thing that made your books interesting is not only the car but also the story and the personalities behind the car. Man even ambulances were so cool back then ! Look at that interior, with the curved round windows it feels like a 60's sci fi spaceship !
Just to clear a small matter up. The Morris Minor shown is in fact a New Zealand car. Correct. However, the hoarding mentality is a detriment to the car community as a whole. The morri minor is from New Zealand that is nz vehicle registration and warrant of fitness at the top of windshield
Yes correct ! NZ car ...AU6227 was the number display on the number plate, VIC isn't Victoria sure it stands vehicle inspection charge !
PS love your shows 😊
Love this. Real tempting to go get that Morris Minor ...

I require the side body chrome that runs down both sides as well as the chrome trim that goes around the top rail of the cargo area on both sides. Thanks for your time and happy hunting.
It's a Love and Hate thing! Love to see these still around but hate to see them wasting away...
I was hoping to see a small restoration on One of those. But over all very cool video, hope to see more.

Great video's dude!!! Thanks plenty
My mum had two Simca's and I learnt to drive in one of them😄
Tuned out the second the guy asked if the Chevelle was an original 502... lmao
Joshua Watson 454 was original right?
chevy Yea. I love the guys response about why it was called a 396 instead of a 402. Saying it was because it was called that for so long, they didn't bother to change it. The real reason was there was a 400ci cap at GM for some cars
An original 502. Lmao. I totally tuned out too.
People make mistakes give him a break jeesh
