How to Start A Job in the Middle of The Program - Haas Automation Tip of the Day

  • Today, Mark shows how to use Setting 36, the Haas Program Restart feature. Have you ever had your power go out right in the middle of your program? Or maybe you broke a tool or needed to change an insert, or wanted to inspect your part during the finish pass. With Haas’ Program Restart, it’s no problem! Mark shows you yet another powerful Haas feature that comes standard with every machine.
    NOTE: The Program Restart Feature is available on current Haas machines with the exception of NGC Lathes and our GM 5-Axis mills. On those machines, the Program Restart feature has been limited for machine safety as some cycles and machine capabilities would conflict.

    Useful update: The last Line “N” Number being run is displayed above your program, in MEM, even if the power goes out and the machine is restarted! This will let you know where the machine was at if power was lost, if you use N numbers. - Mark, Haas Tip-of-the-day

    Great video! Something interesting to remember is that if you are running a macro in your program to change an offset (for example), the restart will increment the macro, assuming the macro is before your restart position.
    I got bit by this once and it's now it's on my mind when I am using restart.

    Finally got around to catching up on the TotD's. This one is super awesome, but the programs I need to use it on are too big to be loaded into memory on our VF4(400k+ lines) and I have to run them from the USB. I can get search to the proper line in Edit mode but it goes back to beginning in Memory mode. And as far as I know, the search feature is not available in Memory Mode. Am I missing some trick somewhere?

    • @haasautomation
      @haasautomation  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dumascain - The search function should work, in MEM Mode, while running a program on your USB (FNC Mode). With large programs, using Program Restart, or even just searching, can take several minutes. For more help, send us your Serial #, to TOD@haascnc.com. From this we can figure out what software version you are running.

    Mark,
    When I use program restart and it rereads through my code, it also recalculates my probing data, which leads to faulty work offsets.
    My issue, I am probing the Z face in 4 positions and then setting the average to G55
    G65P9811Z13.375Q0.5
    #101=#192
    G65P9811Z13.375Q0.5
    #102=#192
    G65P9811Z13.375Q0.5
    #103=#192
    G65P9811Z13.375Q0.5
    #104=#192
    5243=[#101+#102+#103+#104]/4
    This work great as long as I don't stop the program and restart it while using the "Program Restart" feature. But when I restart the program, "Program Restart" reads through the program and recalculates my probing sequence. The problem is that when it re-reads through the code, #192 is either empty, or it has the last value stored in it (not sure which) and then applies that identical value to all 4 offsets and sets that to my G55.
    I really want to retain "Program Restart" but do not know how to get around the issue that is happening.
    HELP!

    At least Haas waited to do this video on program restart until they fixed the Next Gen Control so it actually works right and doesn't try to crash when restarting. Now if they would just fix the other stuff wrong with it without screwing it up worse....Next Generation Control is still full of bugs, even well over a year after the 1st release. Run your new Haas at your own risk!!

    • @moorepower7
      @moorepower7 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Both myself and the shop owner have been in contact with either applications at the factory or our dealer every day for the last week. Tomorrow will be the 3rd time in 7 working days that a service tech has had to work on this thing. Our dealer and the applications department at the factory have been real good to work with, they are not the problem. The problem is the Next Generation Control software itself still has a lot of bugs in it. When our machine was delivered, we were told that NGC had been in development for 2 years, and we have had our machine for 15 months. So Haas has been working on this control package for over 3 years, and it STILL has problems.I completely understand that something new like this will have teething problems. But I would have thought that after having this machine over a year the software package would be better. Every software update (I think I have had 7 updates since delivery) has fixed a problem or two BUT, every update also screws up a couple things that used to work fine. Every time a tech loads new software it is one step forward and two steps back.Another problem is that NGC software takes a lot of control of settings and parameters that the user had access to on older Haas controls away. One of our service calls last week could have been avoided if Haas didn't lock down the control to the point that a simple parameter change requires a service key and a service tech to complete.
