Both together sounds brighter as the pickups are in parallel. Two resistances in parallel reduces the resistance and impedance a bit like how a lower output pickup has a lower impedance and resistance.
brilliant video, trying to find a new guitar that looks and sounds good that wont break the bank, and this review has absolutely convinced me that its gotta be the Hartwood Charger!! big thanks to you man, keep up the great content :D
Aw thanks Freyja, I really appreciate the kind words! Sharing the video helps me a lot :D hopefully I can get some new gear soon! Let me know if you get the guitar!
been looking for a video about the charger for so long, so happy that someones finally talking about it. Might consider getting the one with the bigsby-style bridge on it.
@@zoostationjason will do, looking for a sort of project guitar too and dont have an offset yet, so it just seems like the perfect pick. also to be fair the pink is pretty sweet haha
I've just set my little Charger up to Drop C The action on it is outstanding just a wee baw hair of a truss rod adjustment to compensate for the drop tuning. I'm chuffed. Most guitars I own are 4 figures - ESP customs, Balaguer Select Custom to fame a few. This wee guy can stand proud with them (I'll no doubt change out the pickups). Qnd My main reason wiz I've always wanted a Charvelle Surf caster this looked the part.
A baw hair is the greatest unit of measurement about! Great that this affordable guitar is standing up to your expensive ones, I was pretty astounded with the quality of it too!
Love the video Jason, thanks! I have been intrigued by this guitar because I love the look of it. It was so good to hear it properly without all sorts of effects switched on. Just one question if you don't mind, how heavy is it compared to a Fender Player Strat please?
Thanks for the comment Morgan really appreciate it! It’s definitely heavier than most strats I’ve played, not sure if the weight is on the site and I’ve since got rid of it or I’d weigh it for you!
@@zoostationjason Thanks loads for the quick response. Do you mind if I ask why you got rid of it please? Did it just fail to live up to it's initial promise, or was it just one of those you ended up not playing so moved it on?
@@zoostationjason Thanks for the info Jason. Hopefully the other guitar is everything you dreamed of! Not the being in public naked ones though, that would just be weird.
Awesome review and playing. If I could get a metallic orange or copper, especially with the pink model's iridescent pickguards, it would be a no-brainer as it's a very stylish guitar that sounds great. I'm trying to buy no more Chinese guitars and instead buy more Vietnamese guitars like IYV, so that would be great for me. Maybe a Lipstick Red - Hartwood already offers that finish in another model.
I got one like you as a project. Was ok standard but I found the pups very muddy, swapped with humbucker sized P90s. In process of putting it all back together.
Subscribed, cos you're a West Coaster like myself. Sound like a Glesga lad, but maybes Ayrshire? Great review, by the way. Is the action easy to adjust? I can't fret a guitar any more, after a stroke, so I'm attempting to learn slide, so the higher the action the better. I was actually thinking of trading my Squier Cabronita Telecaster for a cheap SG. To be honest, it doesn't even much matter if the fretwork is sharp etc, cos I don't fret no more! Anyway, best of the west on your channel!
Thanks so much for your kind comments Nick, I am indeed a west coaster, Paisley born and bred here! The action is super easy to adjust, just a flat head screwdriver in the bridge and turn to raise it, just making sure to be careful as the stop tail piece can get marked easily with a screwdriver. That’s brilliant you’re turning your hand to slide guitar - I love it! I can’t get the action as low as I’d like on this so it would probably lend itself very well to a slide set up! Thanks again,
It’s definitely a head heavy beast! I’ve played through a lot of head heavy guitars and I’m mainly confined to a bedroom player nowadays so it’s not as obvious to me, glad you like it! How did you find the set up on yours out the box? I’ve since had to make a few adjustments.
Just googled them there - I totally know this brand! They are apparently amazing guitars, definitely one you’d not need to do much too in the way of a set up. I’d love to get my hands on one!
Thank you this helped, I'm actually looking for information on the hartwood speedway vibrato semi hollow, can't find any videos on it but I know it uses the same pickups as this and is the same price so gave me an idea on the kind of quality to expect
It doesn’t get played as much as it could - it’s competing with my Les Paul which is the go to! But I’ve ordered a new set of pickups for my Les Paul and the Paul’ pickups are gonna go in this! I’ll be doing a wee video for each 😄
@@zoostationjason cool can’t wait. I’m a pretty new player and have been buying all kinds of cheaper guitars , ones with great reviews mind you but I’m still a novice player. I was about to place another order from gear4music but I’m hesitant. Am I making a mistake buying cheap guitars ?
I wouldn’t say so, as long as the reviews are good. I’d recommend taking any guitar for a set up at a music shop (should cost around £40-£50) but that will make all the difference, you want to enjoy picking up the guitar! If you spot a guitar you like hit me up, I don’t mind having a look or giving recommendations 😄 cheers for the comment Ben! Sub if ya haven’t already if you want
@@zoostationjason thanks , ya I subscribed. I was eying up a few at that Gear4music site. I was debating between the Hartwood verbratto cigar burst and the subzero rouge verbratto. I was thinking that the Hartwood wood probably be better quality but there’s no reviews on it at all that I could find. I was also eying up the Hartwood revival amd the 56. Thoughts ? Or maybe you know of some other gems that don’t cost a small fortune. I’m in Canada so keep that in mind. They need to ship here. I recently got a few Harley Bentons , some of them seem pretty awesome, others not so much. Thoughts on them ?
The Hartwood stuff seems to getting decent praise so I’m sure they would be cool! Harley Benton too look great, I’ve played one (one of their Les Paul copies) and it was okay, but it was on of their cheaper options, I think going around $300 would get you something cool! The only problem with any of this is you never know if you might get the one “bad” guitar, it’s always better to go and try a guitar in person and see if it feels good but I understand these brands don’t sell in store - have you looked at Epiphone or Squier? You’d be able to try them at stores :)
They are sold from a company/website called Gear4Music - it’s one of their in house brands :-) I’m not too sure if they do lefty models at the moment but you can always get in touch with them to see. Thanks for your comment :-)
Don't buy this guitar at all, mine came with a damaged fretboard, a cheap binding sinks under the metal frets and there are bare parts between the fretboard and the binding. Gear4music when you report this is only offering you products to lubricate the fingerboard and it creates problems to accept the three-year warranty that the guitar has. Bad sales policy
Sorry you had a bad experience with the guitar and Gear4Music. I can only comment on what was in my hands at the time and my experience with the company, both of which were very good. It can totally put you off when a company doesn’t have good customer services.
@@zoostationjason a question please? On the guitar you have tested and reviewed, does the fretboard have the same width as the neck or is there a binding at the edges and in some places the fretboard does not adhere to the binding, the fretboard is less wide than the neck? Thanks for your kindness
I don’t own the guitar anymore but I didn’t notice anything like that at the time or I’d of been sure to have mentioned it. Seems yours shouldn’t have left the factory in that state!
@@zoostationjason Dear Jason, I have more carefully reviewed your beautiful review which convinced me to buy this guitar which is very beautiful. From your video you can see that the wood of the fingerboard is less wide than the neck, the remaining space is occupied by a binding. In my guitar in some places the fretboard edge binding has broken under the metal frets and the fretboard does not adhere perfectly to the binding. So a major flaw of this guitar is the fretboard. Thanks for your hospitality and kindness, I had to understand a few things. A warm greeting
