Due to the lack of sustain, and the way each note dies in a sort of tapering roundness, the hollow-body guitar, be it acoustic or electric, has a distinctive sound. The solid-body electric guitar was invented to improve sustain and curtail feedback, and ever since, we have been trying to get back that hollow-body tone and resonance while enjoying the sustain.... but alas, we cannot have both.

One jazz player who used a 335 semi hollow guitar was Emily Remler. Sadly she passed away at a young age but she was a great player.

Honestly, I love the sound of a hollow body distorted. I love it for blues playing. You can really make it howl in the upper registers and get some nice overtones.

That's most likely a '57 Gretsch.. No G-Brand on the corner and those DeArmond pickups were replaced with Filtertrons in '58.

Late 50s Gretsch. About 1957. Duane Eddy made that exact model and era famous.

Resonator guitars weren’t “supposed to” increase volume, as you say, they DID increase volume, and way more than the rather limited acoustic Achtops! Only when made electric did archtops become loud enough to be heard over a crowd.

feedback is not about the air inside the body..it is that the top of the guitar is a thin piece of wood that reacts to the vibration of the strings passing through the bridge AND THE AIR PRESSURE CHANGES FROM THE SPEAKERS CAUSING THE THIN BODY TOP TO VIBRATE::BECAUSE THE TOP HAS SUCH LITTLE MASS::in an electric guitar the body top is so rigid that it is not affected be the changes in air pressure due to the speakers..the speakers create alternating positive and negative air pressures at more than 20 times per second..
