Oh my. I'll never look at the Clementines at my local grocery store the same anymore. What great old songs. Truly a part of American history, mostly forgotten.
Clementine remains well known in popular culture. It was a regular staple on the old Scooby Doo soundtrack, as Clem's father was one of that series' first villains of the week. Betsy is well-known, though I'm not sure the verse about her drunken behaviour is as well known as it should be.
I took the screencaps myself ("Dude" is available on DVD). I'm glad someone got the Huckleberry Hound bit-- I ran this one by my kids before I posted it, and they were mystified ("What does that cartoon have to do with Eddie Albert?" they asked). That they failed to catch such an important cultural reference made me feel I'd failed as a parent! :-)
How do you find so many photos from the movie? The highlight for me was the Huckleberry Hound montage! And the censored clip was priceless. We used to sing Clementine in grade school. I never knew it was so dark. He's in good voice here. Fun songs.

That episode was on tonight!
2:08 Sweet Betsy from Pike. Found this with MusicPedia tune finder. Great! Song whistled by Bret Maverick (1957) in Point Blank episode.
