I believe the blue Lady is intended to represent the Godess of Doomsday/Death, Kali. Having her leading a group of women in a song about vengeance against rapists , it fits . I'm not sure of course. But it makes sense
Exxxactly you got it rright as she (mother) goddess Kali is also seen and kept as The Destroyer of Evil, so...very well thought out their Indian cultural (not only Wow! visual but sure that too) adding into concept of this song which certainly resonates very well with all of them who knows her "role" in hindu mythology and pantheon of gods & goddess ( + She sure looks same time both mesmerizingly beautiful & fiercly powerful too...so 2 weeks ago I (as a male) set close-up still photo of her from this Bw's vid as my Facebook's profile-pic as sign & symbol of what world so urgently needs at the moment or sumthin' (I) like that ;-) ).

Thanks for explaining the woman in blue. The dancer does her job really well. Expressing both femininity and power. That visual really adds to the video.
The blue dancer does represent Kali. Also , Kali is being presented as the ‘more gentle’ option to rapists: “You can take your chances with her, or with us. She’ll go easier on you than we will.”
Kali's positive side is a protector of women, her negative side is an avenger of them.
Khali is envoked sometimes when exersing snd destroying evil spirits. it makes se se to how most cultures view rapists as a crime against what it means to be human and lyrically it brings in the words of burning the spirit of my civility to set forth the monster behind the curtian to "put my hand to his throat and bring on the breakdown" or Dana Dan
The baby of the flute is actually an Indian classical musical instrument called Shehnai. I'm Indian and I'm used to hearing it during weddings and religious festivals but never in my wildest dreams have I imagined it to be in metal 🤘
Even Nightwish does that with the irish Uillean Pipe and other kind of Flutes. Symphonic Metal does that.
The Indian music scene had been suffering heavily due to the monopolisation by Bollywood. Now bands like bloodywood are emerging bringing with itself new life to the Indian music discourse. And by the way the name - Bloodywood is a mockery of bollywood
This band is already way more successful than people realize! My mid 50s mom heard them on my playlist while I was driving her to an appointment and she already knew who they were and said she really liked them. They were featured on a show called Yellowstone and that's where she first heard them. Congrats to them on all their future success.

Not gonna lie but they are really having an advantage to others in listening to them like your normal shouts but got the background of india. and in india rape is a very serious issue. People seem to forget everyone is an individual. It's a sad song. It's so poweful and raging against that machine, but not doing anything. Maybe when they are getting a recognition something will change. This video looks like it's all about the "exotic" and not about the message. Therefor a thumbs down what is luckily not shown anymore.

I discovered Bloodywood with the song "Yaad": a metal song that speaks about the unconditional love between a dog and its owner and the memories they shared. It brought me to tears, because in the time I discovered this song I lost my beloved Maya a month ago. Give it a try.

Bloodywood is awesome! Love how they are bringing something fresh to the metal scene while lyrically addressing important issues. Jayant also does clean vocals aside from the screaming. The song Yaad features more of that and has a very different vibe if you want to get more of their overall style. Aaj would also be a good choice.
it's not really that fresh it's nu metal splashed with little bit of metalcore and indian elements with good lyrics.

@Sn0w Controller in a sense I have to agree. band is highly distinguishable in the ocean of generic deathcore and metalcore bands and I love that project their songs are a lot of fun. But I feel like the level of quality and musicanship dropped so much that we consider this like breeze of fresh air. maybe I am just too cynical.

@@pritok6 Everything fresh in the music history was a combination or an influence of other genres I think. With the exception of new invented instruments.
I always said, the screams in metal aren't expressions of anger but emotion in general. It makes sense the screams hit you hard, I feel that's what it's supposed to do. Really good start for Bloodywood here, the song is busy and packed with basically every sound they make. So a really good intro to them. Fun seeing you jam a little more to metal. One of us, one of us :P
You will definitely find that there is a range of "Indian-ness" in their discography. Some songs feature traditional folk sounds more robustly than others. Personally, I prefer it this way because it shows diversity in their abilities. You are going to enjoy all of their tracks!

Thank you Julia. Bloodywood has quickly become one of my favourite bands. These guys don't pull any punches in what they are saying. Really honest and compassionate guys as you will find out if you do "Yaad" ot "Jee Veerey"

Or Gaddaar! My favourite is Dana Dan, but they have good stuff, no doubt.
Would love to see her dive in to Jee Veerey or even yaad, they're such a contrast from the rest of the album
If you want something very different - check out another band from Southern India - Agam suggested songs - Rangapura Vihara and Mist of capricorn.
Probably one of the most interesting bands around today. Please check out Aaj, Jee Veerey and Gaddaar.

Welcome to the Rabbit Hole of Bloodywood. Each song of them has a serious topic lately, "Ari Ari" (We are all one world) "Jee Veerey" (Don't give up on your self - Mental Illnesses) "Endurant" (Bullying is shit) You have quite a lot of gems to uncover and sure you are in for a treat.
Also, if you want to know something of the history of the band, watch "Bloodywood - Raj Against the Machine (The Documentary)". A few reactors has done this 45 minutes video....all where blown away.
You really went in at the deep end with that track! Other reccommendations : Machi Bhasad, aaj, Gadaar, and Ari Ari, which has the classic like "we're Indian, so you know we make it hot"!
Everyone forget zanjeero se. Just a masterpiece. Danna dan was a grower for, didnt liked it by First listenig, but now it is my 3rd Most liked, right after zanjeero se and aaj

For a vocal coach I think Aaj should top that list. A lot going on there in terms of vocals. Although all of their songs are worth listening to. MERA SABAR! I still don't know what that means.

As someone who's been listening to metal, and going to live shows for over 25 years.
I can tell you imo Bloodyqood are the best at bringing their own culture to their music in a perfect blend. They're fresh, original and energetic.
The message they stand for and lyrical content isinspiring.
The founder/guitarist actually quit he day job to pursue his dream of having a metal band.
Me and my partner were lucky enough to see them live in 2019 on their first ever tour. A 13 show mini adding at Wacken open air. Which they were invited to.
They were playing shows of about 30 ppl to start off. Ending with about 15,000 at Wacken.
They are actually one of the best live bands I've ever seen.
So, you ask ppl to suggest other songs for you to check out by them.
ALL OF IT!!! leave no stone unturned.
Check out their first 5 original songs like Machi Bassad, and Jee Vaaray.
And then do a full album reaction to Rakshak.

This whole album is a great thing. They bring positivity in every song. This is their debut album. I would say the video Gadaar is pretty good too. Or Jee Varey. Its about depression. I listen to these guys a LOT.

Love these guys, as an Indian (Americans born) it's cool to see my mother land, and mother language merge w my favorite musical genre
They are by far my favorite folk metal band. Exceptional integration of their culture, great messages and of course kickass metal!
I suggest their biggest hit: Jee Veerey, it is the most empowering song that tackles depression and suicide, and I think it really shows off their talent. Raoul (the rapper) wasn't officially part of the band yet and sttill, their styles interweave so well!
Or do Aaj, which again is a beautiful, powerful song. Or Endurant, talking from the POV of a victim of bullying. Or Gaddaar, a song about being fed up with the empty promises of politicians.

I first heard of Bloodywood with "Jee Veerey", and it hit me right in the gut. Then I heard "Machi Basad", and I was hooked!
Ordered the album as soon as I could, and it's definitely one of the best metal albums released in a very long time.
TH-cam's algorithm hit me with this not long after it was released. I think the first time I heard it I was overwhelmed; there's so much to process. I was like, "this is genius" but I had to give it a few listens to really absorb the lyrical message. Then recently I listened again and it all solidified into an adamantium feeling of this is a MASTERPIECE. I already enjoyed Dutch folk metal, Kingfisher Sky is awesome, but Indian folk metal? I somehow hadn't imagined that. I find it incredibly complex, mesmerizingly unique, human and heartening, repairing my faith in the world a little bit... and it makes me want to fight for someone I don't know. It gives intense amounts of energy, and that female vocal part really gave me chills too.
Bloodywood are some allaround good boys; really gives an old man hope that the world may be in better hands in the future
As a vocal coach, i hope you check out their song 'Yaad'. You will be blown away by Jayants' vocal range..and hold a box of tissues ,cos it is emotional!!
YES I so wish some vocal coaches/singers/any musical pro react or review Yaad but also Zanjeero Se! Because indeed those two songs are where Jayant shows best his range and skills, and put so much emotion in the lyrics, plus they're imho their songs that are musically the best (but like, the bar is so high with those guys considering they're self produce (Karan, you hardworker genius) so it might just be my bias toward melancholy stuff speaking).

This album is already in my top 5 of the year. So fantastic and creative.
Regarding the dancing: I read somewhere that the blue skinned dancer represents Kali, who going by my very basic knowledge of the Hindu pantheon is a goddess you don't want to mess with.
Yep, her Kali's "role" in hindu pantheon of gods & goddesses is also to be The Destroyer of Evil (with her limitless divine female energy etc.). So her central/frontal position at them vid's dancers is clear indication & clever adding to song's lyrically very important theme and strong message (that way too). ;-) :-)
Their song Aaj is where you will probably really appreciate the scream vocalist Jayant and see his vocal range. As a vocalist I'm sure you will find that song the best
this is one of their heaviest songs lyrically, musically, and vocally. they have more melodic pieces but most of them are all socially conscious. i love this band. i love their style. that t-shirt the rapper wears, NO FLAG, he wears that in every video. it's really kind of their mantra. oh, i'm a 60 year old woman, so i've listened to a lot of metal, and a lot of folk metal from a lot of different countries. this band is totally unique, in my opinion. they preserve their culture and tradition but embrace the world. there are other bands that do this (Alien Weaponry comes to mind) but this band really pushes the social boundaries. their debut album is most excellent.
Yes, Was going to say that these guys broke my brain in the same way Alien Weaponry did by putting a different spin on typical music from their culture.

I'd never heard of Bloodywood before today, but I already love their sound(s). Parts of this strongly reminded me of late-90s Sepultura (think Brazilian folk metal). Do yourself a favour, Julia and check out Roots Bloody Roots or Choke.
Hearing this song a few weeks ago made me feel a deeper appreciation for folk metal
You should look at Gaddaar by them next, as well as Aaj
I gently throw in Yaad as next song to react too. It's 'the ballad' of the album, focussing on the theme of loosing a dear loved beeing, particularly about loosing a loved dog or other pet. 'Yaad' and 'Dana Dan' sound so different and yet both bring me (near) to crying every listen, such emotional masterpieces in their own ways. One of the funniest experiences ever, bursting out in tears to this songs while jogging; the people's faces, looking at the crying and yet sprinting bloke were priceless. ^^
Oh you should really listen to their second latest release, Aaj. It's somewhat more emotional and melodic but still a banger :)
This is by some measure the most heavy track of bloodywood they released so far. I discovered them about 3 years ago, first song i heard was machi bhasad and i was hooked, then i discovered Ari Ari, jee vereey and endurant and was even more into them. they released their first album on february 22 this year, and it blew my mind. I highly recommend to check out the documentary about their first tour and live gigs ( raj against the machine documentary). Ialso suggest to react to some of their more recent songs like gaddar and aaj. these guys are a journey of expirience. I was lucky to be able to visit their gig in Frankfurt (Germany), was worth every single cent and would have gladly paid double to visit.
The wind instrument you were talking about is called "nadaswaram" and the drum is called "nagara". The woman who is painted in blue represents Hindu Goddess "Kali"- The Goddess of death, destruction and doomsday.
They released a couple of self-made songs a few years back, and then have been pouring their efforts into a proper album and a world tour. So glad they're really getting traction, their approach to metal is brilliant, and the folk instruments are superb

This band is one of the best metal bands of the last 5 years IMHO. The guy that does the screams also does good clean vocals. If you want to continue checking them out I recommend "Aaj", "Yaad", and "Jee Veerey". Those songs showcase the cleans a bit more. "Gaddaar" Is another good one that is more similar to this song. In addition to being very good musicly, the majority of the lyrics to their songs are great and they write about social issues that are not generally well represented in metal.

Been on these guys for years now. 10/10 every time. Always love seeing them get more attention. They do include a fair bit of activism on numerous issues in their catalogue.
You comments on the video actually helped me define how I feel when listening to this song (same for other bloodywood songs as well) it brings tears to my eyes and a commotion inside my heart which I couldn't quite say if it is rage, sadness, or some other feeling. Turns out it is all the feels, like you said, I too feel overwhelmed by feelings listening to their songs. It brings up all kinds of raw emotions to the surface. Thanks for the video.

Welcome to the serious world of Bloodywood. The topics are not throwaway/fiction like in much of western metal.
The instrument : I believe that BW has mentioned it as a Shehnai.
I'm not an expert in Indian woodwinds, but the shehnai is a reed (double read, similar to an oboe).
The 'screamer' is Jayant Bhadula ... gotta love a metal-guy whose surname sounds like 'bad' in English.
I swear in the live cuts I've seen, I think he can overlay that pitched tone on top on his harsh vocals.... kind of a violent throat-singing, if ou will, incorporating some airy separated true cords and the same time everything else in the vocal apparatus is rattling like Jed Clampett's Olds 46.
This is a fun band... people will give lots of suggestions and they are all good, and poignant.
I don't think this band writes 'album filler'.

Basically just check out all their music videos. Great songs on all of them.
However their older videos are just cover songs. The 'Tunak Tunak Tun' one is hilarious.
Also, I highly suggest checking out their song 'Zanjeero Se' from their debut album. That song is nowhere on TH-cam and it unexpectedly became my top favourite song by them when I listened to it. The screaming dude gets to do clean singing in that song and the part where he transitions from clean singing to a growl somewhere around the 3-minute mark is always a hair-raising moment for me. So epic.

The whole album is fantastic, especially considering it's their first, and basically did it all themselves. The harsh vocalist is Jayant Bhadula, and he has quickly become one of my favorite vocalists. His cleans are pretty good as well. All their music has meaning, and given with this much passion and sincerity.

Bloodywood are utterly fantastic, I had the incredible honour of being able to see them live before the pandemic hit, and they were amazing live as well.
I *highly* recommend both Gaddaar and Aaj by them as well.
Jayant, your screamer, is *far* more varied than just scream, there are some excellent clean vocals from him in Aaj as well as Zanjeero Se, another from their debut album.
I cannot stress enough how utterly fantastic these guys are, and I am *so* glad you've found them too :D
This is my favorite song of theirs. So much power and I love the mix of traditional Indian and metal. The dancing is so good. Flows very well with the song.
More bloodywood reactons please. They are so good and the different traditional instruments are so interesting.
Jayant has the most emotion inducing scream/growl I have ever heard.
He is also an Amazing emotional clean singer too.
The entire album is gold from song one to the last.
They are such an uplifting/positive band that deal with some serious topic.
They are also a band that stand behind their lyrical content (not necessarily on this song, which to my understanding is about turning the violent action towards rapists into a more passive/active role towards preventing/reducing it.).
They produce all their own music and videos and they perform with such passion and energy that you can’t help but love them.
They have videos for about half of the songs on the album since they were first made for TH-cam and later put into their SELF-PRODUCED album.
For uplifting songs, check out "Aaj" or "Endurant".
For political commentary, check out "Machi Bhasad" or "Gaddaar.
For a tear-jerker "Yaad" talks about losing man's best friend and see the epilog about how they donated to animal rescue efforts in their area of India.
The band has done collabs with their real-life friend "The Snake Charmer", so check out some Indian/bagpipe/EDM stuff from her. (yes, it is SO good)
So happy to see you react to these guys! They have so many awesome songs to explore, it's hard to choose a small number to suggest. Personally, Aaj, Gaddar, Machi Bhasad, and this song are all favorites, and for something softer, Jee Veerey and Yaad both pack a hell of an emotional punch.
Also, if you react to Jee Veerey, Yaad, or Endurant, make sure you watch their outro after the song, even if you don't want to include that in your reaction video. These guys are not only amazing musicians, but also amazing people, and they do more than just make songs about the topics they care about!
this was a great reaction and i think it's always fun to see more people reacting to bloodywood for the first time. a few songs i think you might enjoy are jee veerey, aaj and yaad, all of which i personally find show a bit of the different ranges and topics of the music they make while all being very good songs
You 1000% need to check out project Mishram. They’re an Indian prog metal band with such an amazing blend of clean tradition singing styles with more modern techniques. Absolutely recommend you check them out!

Love that you reviewed this! I just recently hear these gents and was shocked and surprised that I hit replay a few times. Let's see - Rap, not usually my favorite. Um, screams? Likley as not to hit for me. So when I find this and it has those two elements combined so well! Awesome. Did you note how incredibly fast the "screamer" was rapping too? Holy cow! Yes, that was on purpose :)

This band instantly became one of my favorite bands, the perfect mix of styles and genres, specially nu-metal influences which I grew up with make this exactly the kind of sound that gets me going.
I marked way out when I heard this the first time and it just gets better.
Hi Julia, I love watching reactors who have never heard of this band before! There hasn't been one yet that was'nt blown away with something about this brilliant band's music. It's so hard to recommend another song as they are all unique and awesome, but you could try Aaj, or Jee Veerey, inspiring and emotional, or the colourful Machi Basad.. u wont be disappointed. :)

To paraphrase something I learned from another commenter: she is supposed to represent the goddess Kali, in her role of righteous fury and punishment for the wicked and "not the goddess of asking nicely".

That instrument is Clarinet.. called Sehnai in India.. its a classical wind instrument, traditionally used in weddings..
I've been one of their fans for a while. For a next reaction, I would recommend "Yaad" or "Aaj" - and enable subtitles if they're not integrated into the video as with this one, I keep forgetting - but the lyrics are great, too :)

I got introduced to them from the song Jee Veerey and I've been hooked since. I pre-ordered their debut album and I'm waiting (not so patiently) for it to arrive. Jee Veerey has been reviewed by other channels that I watch and every single one of them has gotten choked up when they listen to it.

Love that you've covered this song by Bloodywood. Was curious about how you'd feel about the oh-so-many different sections/influences. Personally, they got me most with the part where the almost meditative traditional sound almost phased out the heavy rhythm and compleetely overtook the feel. Aand the synth+rap part was very, very unexpected, yet quite welcome.

Anything folk metal is a "yes please" for me, and the Bloodywood boys REALLY hit hard. This is the heaviest song they have on the album though (it's their debut and a self-release to boot!). Personally I would have recommended some of their other songs to begin with, like Jee Veerey or Endurant. All their songs are good, but these 2 in particular are personal and emotional songs (equally good screams, hits equally hard, just in a different manner). You get the sense that these are guys that really care for others. And in that context, this song isn't just some heavy aggressive song with cool sounds, it's the roar when the patient caring person _finally. Had. Enough._
Also, angry blue lady. I'll repeat what I posted on TankTheTech's reaction (it's the next recommended, yay algorithm): That's a representation of Kali, the Goddess. I'm sure someone else can give a better explanation than I can (since I'm neither Hindu nor Indian), but some of Her common attributes include "Destroyer of evil", "Mother of all" and "Divine manifestation of wrath". Also one time Her dance almost ended the universe. *That's* the power behind the message of this song.

@@TF_NowWithExtraCharacters : True. But in the case of the former, it is, I think, more accurately labeled as "zealotry." Especially when zealotry drives people to commit acts they wouldn't normally do, such as the Spanish Inquisition.

@@TF_NowWithExtraCharacters : Yeah. You can have ignorant zealots in that way too. Kind of like the Puritans in the 1700s and the Mormons of today. Or, you have the most zealous of all religions, the fundamentalist extremist Muslim, who thinks they have a right to kill all non-Muslims, despite Islam allegedly being "a religion of peace." I mean, it is pretty zealous in Islamic countries when gay people are thrown off of roofs, stoned to death, or beheaded by a sword-wielding Imam. Or, in Pakistan, how they throw acid in the faces of young girls who want an education.
