There's a lot going on there. Kudos for giving this bike a try. Things that I would do: 1) Compression check all cylinders. 2) Figure out your fuel leak. 3) Likely your carbs are out of sync and not balanced either. 4) I'd also check the spark plugs to see if they're all getting fuel or fouling. 5) When running, you could check to see if one exhaust header is cold vs. others (temp gun or spray some water to see which ones are hot or not). 6) With the info from doing all the above, you should be able to then tune the carbs.
These are the coolest bikes ever. I resurrected an 82 model last year. Lots of work still needed on your carbs. Until they are right it will be a hard starter and won't run up to it's potential. Very entertaining videos.. Best of luck getting this bike sorted out... they are phenomenal when running right.
You may have to do a smoke test and check for boost leaks and check the stator it may be on its way out and the timing components sound a little noisy you may need a timing adjustment that my be a good place to start but this build looks like it’s gonna be bad ass man I’ve been watching since your American cb750 cafe racer videos and you’ve been doing nothing but growing keep up the good work man!
I'm no mechanic but I owned one of these from new. My best guess on the flashing light is that your battery is missing a sensor that's supposed to go in one of the electrolyte cells. You might be able to extinguish the light by pushing one of the buttons on the dash a couple times.
I did see a little red sensor looking thing attached to a wire loose near where my battery is, I bet that's the electrolyte sensor. I have a sealed battery though so where do I put it?
Over on the XJ forum, I'm seeing owners of Seca 750s with similar systems, reporting to connect the sensor wire, white with red stripe, directly to any 12-volt + source. Some folks are also saying to put a resistor in series, but that's above my pay grade.
Those were cold blooded due to the lean jetting mandated by the EPA so I took a while for them to warm up. We would drill out the plugs that were over the air screw so they couldnt be tampered with. and put the bikes on an exhaust gas analyzer to set the idle mixture numbers. 17 parts per million was what the EPA wanted on nox. Funny I can remember that. First thing You should do is sync the carbs and use the YICS tool to isolate the idle circuits from each other. Look that up on line, you can make your own tool. I was a yamaha mechanic at this time. The weak point on these was the turbo. The bearings would go bad but you could get new bearings at that time. If your going to keep it get a service manual for it. Good luck . those were definately styled ahead of their time.
For the clear tube method, I would use longer tubes. Sometimes you have to burp the air bubbles out to get the true level. Second, check the oil. With severe flooding issues, gas gets past the piston rings and thins out the oil. Engine oil will have the gasoline smell if this is the case. If you don't figure out the flooding issue, these oil changes get very expensive due to the cost of oil.
My first inclination is that the battery isn't charging, which I'm sure you noticed since you've had to keep jumping it. If you can diagnose the charging issue, then I would make sure the brakes are reliable and take it for another ride!
No 1 your fuel pump should not run until the engine is turning over, relay up front works that, I also found with my turbo that the brass type needle and seats you buy on eBay are rubbish and won’t seal Under pressure from the pump, I got some vitron tipped ones from a snow mobile that are exact fit and seal perfect, they are a pig sometimes to start and if the battery is slightly down it wont run the starter as well as the CDI and lights, so fully charged battery is a must ! For some reason the petcock just sometimes won’t stop the fuel and will fill the engine with fuel into the gearbox and out through the turbo so put a second tap between it and carbs ! 25 years of owning one will teach you lots of tricks
A friend has a similar bike but his is the 750 without Turbo. Is it the Maxim? Anyway, same thing with the flashing red light on the Atari Dash. I read that it might have simething to do with a battery-life sensor that Yamaha thought was a good idea back in the day.
Hi Mate, I will probably also check CDI Résistance, cool ignition sparking plug, also .. check the how are burning the sparking plug, maybe you habe to much petrol inside of the engine... I don't know.. just check everything 😂😂 😂 Regards from Germany!!!
I'd say you should check that fuel pump going into the carbs and see if is actually pumping enough fuel. Or I'd also check for spark on all cylinders, which might be the more likely culprit.
Curious that it flooded to such an extreme when the carbs bench tested good. Flooding like that normally comes from sticking float needles. Perhaps the fuel pressure is too high and pushing through the needles? By the way, i know this guy. He can get you a great deal on a disco ball.
the foam filter should be fine BUT it must be washed and oiled MUCH more often than a paper filter, so keep that in mind. edit: I also have a spider on my bike, I called it Jimmy and it lives somewhere beneath the dash.
I have a "newer" xj600 94' whit 61hp.. But it was very very Hard and fustrating tó hét it work halfway properly..... These suckers tend tó be very picky to carb.. It must be like 110% god.. Öt it is nőt running or runs poorly😂

Nice work on getting the bike out for it's first test ride even with not running right!!
happy to watch new episode!
I'm happy to hear that!
@@GoldGuyRides I find that there is a 3D print for air filter in printables

I may just do the smoke test, thanks for the suggestion! Thanks for sticking around all this time!
If you can get this thing running then I can get my 2001 Yamaha YZF R6 running... ur an inspiration

👍😎👍
Pull your spark plugs ..read them..then put on 4 spark plug checkers ..see if your getting constant spark..get a fresh set of spark plugs ..
4:15 I'm dying 😂

So awesome
On the air filter, at the very least oil it with some filter oil. Dry foam doesn't catch fine dust.
You're right, I'll do that.
4:15 awww HELL NAW lmao
Your driveway looks like the 1989 Exxon Valdez Oil Spill.😂
😂 yeah I know... Thanks xj650

Sound's great, she does!. Did you check what volt the charging on the battery was? I was thinking electricity was hanging up somewhere??

Nice
Did you Check the Carb setting?
Yeah I set everything at factory spec.

Try it without the airfilter
It ain't go no gas in it.
RAD...

I know what's wrong with it!!!
It needs a mechanic that knows how to work on motorcycles. 👍
Hahaha good one!!!
