You know that they leak sound so why would you use them for podcasts. This should be general information but I see you are making a point for the sake of the video and you are comparing semi open to closed back two different headphones. These are editing headphones.

Super headphones.. an absolute classic. Too bad the reviewer don't get what they are about .. lol

I get what the headphones are about. I just do not think they are particularly useful for hobby podcasters. As I stated they caused me to produce bad quality audio because I could not monitor correctly. I think this fact would impact a lot of home podcasters and have stated as such. Thanks for checking out the video. ~SP

@@GonnaGeekGear We who record music would use them for instance when we would want to record a vocalist with some guitar backup or similar and theres need for some sound leakage so the singer can hear and sing and similar. But they are also fantastic home hifi headphones for the price

@@matereo Thank you for the history lesson. I'm sure these were fantastic for the purposes your mentioned. However, now that home recording and podcasting are here to stay there has been an adoption of "classic" recording technology. Unfortunately not all of these "classics" are a great fit for podcasting. The purpose of this review was to look at the application of the AKG K240's for home podcasting and unfortunately the AKG K240's are not well suited for that application.

bought 2 pairs from guitar center and within 1 year from purchase, both headphones stopped working on one side. Very upsetting after both headphones lost all sound. The wire also will short out. Big waste of money. I can understand 1 pair not working but both crapped out in less than a year. Absolutely horrible headphones

background noise should really be a non issue for home studios, as if there is any significant noise it will be spilling into your recordings. There is an endless choice of closed back monitoring headphones, these are one of the few decent but affordable ones that are open. People getting these should be choosing them because they like open headphones, there are many benefits like a more open non-boxy sound which imo allows for more delicate treble detail without the fatiguing directness of closed phones. Some people like myself also want to hear other things in the room like having a conversation with someone or even listening out for the doorbell.
Aside from rubber bud earphones which are a recent thing, most people have always used open phones on public transport especially back in cassette/cd/minidisc days, it is really a non issue.

The monitoring headphones are not only for recording but for editing and mastering as well in home studios. I still say that there are better closed back headphones for home studio use. However, if you have general quiet surroundings and prefer to have the sound distorted by ambient sounds than open back headphones such as these could be useful for you. I will never use them again as they interfered with my monitoring a recording in progress by not providing an isolated audio experience.
Thanks for watching and commenting! I enjoy hearing a well thought out and expressed contrary position. ~SP

@@GonnaGeekGear monitoring has never been the traditional pro method, headphones are generally for monitoring yourself as you sing, talk or play an instrument. Monitoring for music and film has generally always been done on loudspeakers.
I appreciate that in the TH-cam & smartphone era it might now make sense to monitor on headphones as people listen on headphones. But remember that isolating the ambient noise with closed back headphones was never a thing, closed back phones were to stop sound spilling into the microphone. Monitoring for mastering especially is done on loudspeakers, and when people make the compromise of headphones they usually go for open back because they sound more detailed, big, less fatiguing and less claustrophobic too. The room you work in should be quiet, have a closed door and adequate damping with soft furnishings. If you experienced problems with open phones I recommend you try making the room better and perhaps turn the volume up.

@@GonnaGeekGear it's cool, sorry if I sounded obnoxious at all. If you ever do the sound for something you know will be listened to on speakers, like a film, or music. Do give loudspeakers a shot, because it's pretty much impossible to do on headphones. 😉

@@dfpguitar Nope - you did not. I enjoy hearing how the pros do it. I do also have a set of reference monitors. I recently upgraded my M-Audio AV-40s to a pair of JBL LSR305's. I know that is still on the lower end but I'm loving them. My home studio can only take up to 5" speakers due to available space. I do most of my mixing and monitoring through them in post. ~SP

I found the Shure SRH840 to be better headphones for the money. But I need a closed back set of studio monitoring headphones. Using the semi-open headphones has led to audio editing mistakes in the past that I do not care to repeat.

Your partner say in the last video about this that he will upload more about effects, because he doesn’t know if the effects could be sent to the computer or you could put one effect per channel or just 1 effect for all channels and i would like watch something about usb interface, and usb audio return. They are a standard 3.5 mm input so if you have that capability to plug it into your system I think so. Also, it would allow you to hear people in the room around you as well as be a little cooler over your ears. HOWEVER, those around you would be able to hear the game as well. thanks for watching! ~SP

They are German made and far better than your review. They go to show that you don't need to follow the hype and spend mucho dinero for top quality headphones. They are special purpose headphones and are near perfect for what they were made to accomplish. Ry Cooder & Crew use these, nothing more needs to be said.
