Watching this on the 5 year anniversary of that horrific fire, it is still gut-wrenching to re-live it. So many lives were saved due to the courageous and dedicated first responders. Many homes are still being being rebuilt or are empty lots, but the community has been so resilient and strong, I am amazed and proud of Santa Rosa. I hope we never experience that again. God bless the fire fighters who came from all of the state, all over the country and across the globe. So grateful that you came and fought the beast that sadly took precious lives.

My Aunt's brother's house was saved by Berkeley fire fighters. I live about 35 miles from Santa Rosa.

The night before it all began, that Sunday, the weatherman said “with these winds it would be devastating to have a fire” my girlfriend came to my house at 2am saying she was evacuated and could see 40ft flames a few neighborhoods over from her house, I looked out the window and saw eucalyptus trees bent over, in the 60mph gusts, when I hurried out to my back deck I could see fountain grove, Downtown Santa Rosa , and petaluma hill glowing the most evil red color one could imagine. I don’t know when I’ll be able to truly believe the devastation my entire county had witness that night sand the following 11 Days, it’s the 14th day today, and the containment is finally in the 90s. These fires have ran out of wind and fuel. Fireseasons will not get any better around here in years to come.

I wish people would use their phones to video horizontally. Vertical videos leave out so much of what is going on. Interesting video; it allows us to see how bad it got.

If you don’t remain calm you can’t do much to help freaking out or rushing leads to mistakes

Thanks guys. It really is interesting to see what was actually happening. I suppose if the fire had been in just one neighborhood it might have been able to be extinguished. But SRFD must have been so completely overwhelmed. They simply couldn't be on all o most of the fire fronts. Great job.

9:31 this final image says it all. Trees with limbs & leaves intact with burnt out cars around rubble. You think all these people still own homes? Or are they renting or even homeless?

Thank you to the firefighters. You picked a good place to make that stand. The decision was right. You found a place to stand and fight and you saved many homes amid the pure terror, loss and sorrow of civilians.

5:13 ok come on now. All these houses are completely erased surrounded by trees which stand unharmed with their lower branches unscathed? Thats not fire man fire consumes everything in its path, thats why they use firebreaks to stop fire from spreading. It doesnt flatten only man made objects leaving its original and all time favorite fuel source. Idk what happened but this aint normal or explainable by wind and vents. Its not whats burned but whats not buned.

No, Tubbs in Santa Rosa. There is a Tubbs lane in Calistoga and that same fire spread across the mountains there.

@@victudhaus I’m aware of that..... when you are talking to someone like me that literally lives on the border of each county I just say Sonoma or Napa but I am fully aware of where the tubbs fire started in fact it didn’t even start on tubbs lane. The fire started on 1128 Bennet lane in Calistoga at around 9:40PM then at around 2 AM I was evacuated along with the community of larkfeild-wikiup.

Uhhh why are the only things on fire the structures? How does fire leap so far without burning anything else? Before you say embers on rooftops the shingles are made of fire retardant materials.
