I mean my assumption regardless was that whichever Wife it was, it happened on the Wedding Night. 9 months from there, gameplay time aside, seems sensible for traveling to a Desert and then to a Mountain Kingdom on the world map.

One that I remember vividly is right after you do the Gold Bauble Swap (already a stand out moment for a bit of dialogue novelty to see from the other side after the moment at the start of the game), your kids will notice the hero looks visibly shaken after the sequence, revisiting not just his childhood briefly, but also the last time he saw his Father alive and well.
There are a LOT of gut punching bits of flavor text in this game: After the first timeskip, looking into a mirror can give a note about the player hero trying to imagine his father's face while looking at his reflection, as if he can barely recall it with how young he was when everything went south.

Something that I love about Dragon Quest V is the "You are the protagonist but NOT the legendary Hero"
At the start you do all the things a protagonist in every other RPG do, things that a kid couldn't do (Saving an entire castle and helping a Fairy Kingdom).
More events happens, and then you find the Sword of Zenithia. The legendary equipment you keep hearing about. You try to equip it and then: Nope.
    You can't.
You are NOT the legendary Hero, and the game opens up after that.
Just, precious, even more if you know about RPGs

    Debora is best DQV Waifu.
Also, can I gush for a bit? I absolutely love Pankraz's death in this game. In the first battle against Ladja's subordinates, he completly wipes the floor with them, showing how strong he is on the offense (mind you, one of these enemies is a mid-game boss while the other is a late-game boss). Then, in the second fight where Pankraz is forced to lose, it does not become a curb-stomp battle for the two bosses. It takes them multiple turns to actually put down Pankraz. This shows that Pankraz is, well, not a glass cannon, and could go through multiple battles with no sweat. He is both strong on the offensive AND the defensive. Those two moments help give Pankraz a very awesome way to go, by showing just how strong and overpowered he actually is. It one of my favorite moments in the game.
Another moment I like is during the dance at the end of the game. If you married Nera or Bianca, your character is the one leading the dance. However, if you married Debora, SHE'S the one leading the dance, twirling you around while the other dancers twirls their female partner. A very funny way of showing who is actually wearing the pants in this relationship.

Nice to hear you liked it! Dragon Quest V's one of the more beloved of the series, and for good reason I feel. It's a lot more of a personal journey for your main character compared to most of the others in the game, which helps it stand out a lot more from the rest.
Also yeah I'm basic too and chose Bianca as well so no worries there!

Johnny saying he plans to do youtube for a long time just warms my heart. Don't even care about RPGs, I just love this man

Funnily enough, hearing that Johnny was gonna review 5 made me play my copy again, and I finished it today.
Debora is actually the best of the three in my opinion, if only because her character is actually really freaking great. But it’s good to see that John had fun with this entry. Puts a smile to my face.

Personally hope Johnny takes a look at Shin Megami Tensei, especially considering Shin Megami Tensei V is supposed to come out later this year.

One of the tricks I do, and it is sort of annoying, is always buying a shit ton of medicinal herbs and using those to preserve MP. That saved me so much on that final dungeon. Great vid Johnny!

I have this game and I STILL haven't beaten it lol.
What's funny is that there's a LOT of talk lines in the game that they had to translate but I'll take the characters having some kind of development through the talk feature than none at all.

    PLEASE REVIEW THE PERSONA SERIES!
I'm genuinely interested in hearing your thoughts on the evolution.

    • @dey6942
      @dey6942 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@robotnick9867 it isn’t really mandatory, the games aren’t really connected besides both being Megaten spin-offs. I wouldn’t mind if he started with Persona especially since it’s easier to get into imo.

Great video, this game is so special as DQ is so special per se, i did make two of my real life goals with this game, i guess that's the best resume of it: loved that moment you have mentioned with Harry, so dipper and relatable. The party chat has a lot of great moments, there's on in the casino where Bianca or the daughter mentioned "1 coin can turn into 100, but that goes in both ways" that was blow mind. It's a masterpiece honestly and thanks for doing this 😄

One of the best games in the series. Also one of the first games to have monster party members.

@@dungeonmaster3464 yes, but Dragon Quest did it first. I think the first Shin Megami Tensei game, which also has monster recruiting, came out around 2 months after DQ 5. Pokemon is just way more popular.
