    According to Spielberg, Weaver wanted to be in the booth. So, Carey Loftin, the driver had a stake in the ground as a point of no return. If Weaver wasn't out of the booth in time, Loftin would veer left to miss it. They got it on first take.

      Crazy shit ! (I was hoping it was done with a rear-projection system or something) Spielberg almost pulled a "Vic Morrow" on this shot (look him up to see what I mean). A bit reckless (even if the actor agreed to do it ...)

      @@TRINZINI Completely safe. This was done in two shots. In the first shot Weaver stayed in the booth and truck passed him on the right(for the driver). You can see the truck already turning right before the cut and the change of perspective(especially in slow mo).The second shot, from a different angle, was done as described above. Then Spielberg edited two shots into one.

    • @michaelc6126
      @michaelc6126 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the interesting fact. You can tell the first take has the truck nearly on top of him but the second from a different angle he had just enough time to get out. But can someone tell me how Dennis Weaver was able to make the phone call without telephone wires running into the phone booth? I can't be the only one noticing this... LOL

    I remember watching this as the ABC Movie Of The Week series that was broadcast in the early 70s.
    I was a senior in high school at the time, and watched the entire thing alone that night.
    The suspense was Hitchcockian, and had me riveted from beginning to end...
    Of course, the name Steven Spielberg didn't mean much to any of us back then either, but I knew something special was involved in the production of the film 'Duel'.

      I also saw it the first time it aired there was a great review in the newspaper and my mom said we have to watch this movie tonight and that's how we all saw it. If not for that review we probably would have watched something else.

You might have a slight worry about people in the back of your head, but if they were 1/2 hour late for something you didn't panic. Watching shows about old shipwrecks was even more crazy. they would wait until a ship was overdue a month before they worried!

      North by Northwest, starring Cary Grant, directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Might be, as a nod to that movie.

    Too bad David Mann didn't have a glock pistol in his hand so he could unload into the cab of that truck & s.o.b. inside. 🤣🤣🤣

    I occasionally catch glimpses of the driver in this scene and I’m telling you he is the same guy in the diner with the tan shirt sitting at the far end of the bar. I know it looks like he gets into another truck but that could have been staged. I have ALWAYS thought it was him.🤔

    The shot where the truck comes in to frame at the phone booth with Mann on the phone must be some kind of trick shot. The lens is pretty wide, maybe like 28mm. So the camera would have to be like 10 feet in front of the booth and the truck would have destroyed the camera. I wonder what was done.

    like none of these movies are that time accurate, so if it was real life he wouldve gotten mowed down in that phone booth.

      The truck driver didn’t want to run over Mann. That’s why he blew the horn. He wanted Mann on the road so he could terrorize him some more.

    When I watched this as a teenager, and still today, I pull for the Truck Driver to splatter his guts on the highway. The Truck Driver obviously has more integrity than Mann.
