Q: What if I cannot locate the options for Legacy, CSM, or UEFI and I have explored all the tabs?
A: If you can not change the settings in BIOS or if changing them did not help your situation, skip that step and proceed with the rest of the steps in this updated video: • How To Fix HP No Boot ... . What was the result of the diagnostic test?
Q: What does it mean 'Hard Drive SMART Check FAILED'
A: If your HDD failed the test, that means your hard drive is bad and needs to be replaced.

Then you will have to install Windows onto the new one.

Q: The diagnostic scan says that my Hard Drive is not installed.
A: If its saying 'uninstalled' or 'unavailable' then the HDD is most likely either bad or loose. I would first try 'reseating' the Hard Drive. You can see that done here in this updated video: • How To Fix HP Boot Loo...
After that, try the diagnostic scan again. If it still says that its not installed, then its most likely bad and needs to be replaced. You can see replacements here in the Computer Component List: www.amazon.com/shop/pcmonkey
You would also then need to install an operating system onto the new drive.

Q: Changing settings in BIOS didn't help and everything passed the test?
A: If changing the settings in BIOS did not resolve the issue and the diagnostic test passed all components, then its most likely an operating system error. Try to reinstall Windows.

Q: My diagnostic test says 'Unavailable' or I cant run it. What do I do?
A: I would first try 'reseating' the Hard Drive. You can see that done here in this updated video: • How To Fix HP Boot Loo... . See if that helps.
If you cant run the test, then we don’t know for sure if the HDD is bad or not. You can proceed a couple different ways. You can assume its good and that the Operating System is the cause of your error. Or you can assume its bad and replace it before installing an Operating System to the new one. I had to mess around tons with some options to get legacy to stop from being greyed out but once I finally got that done I managed to boot from legacy and now I’m back…. Mate, you’re a lifesaver thanks 🙏🏽

The legacy seems to have fixed my issue! Atleast long enough for me to come up with a plan B and get my data pulled off before it’s too late

Thank you a lot. I tought i had lost all I have. I just finished cleaning the insides of my laptop, and before doing that i unplugged the battery, for safety obviously, after i cleaned it i plugged everything back, started the laptop, but it was not booting with a "The CMOS checksum is invalid." error. Searched up on yt for a fix, found this video, enabled the legacy thing and solved. Dang you guys save computer lives and human sanity😅. Thanks dude.

HP diagnostics was saying I had a dead hard drive after a BIOS update. I had already checked the system time and reloaded default BIOS settings. Once I switched to legacy everything worked per normal.

Hi, Thanks a bunch for your video. Generally, I´m NOT at good at assembling re-assembling electronics devices AT ALL. But, after having watched a different video I managed to replace the HDD of my HP laptop with a SATA-SSD 1TB, and fixed my laptop that had this error "no bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key" with the help of your video. Great video, very informative, thank you. The only thing I'd like to add is for newer HP laptops like mine there's also a known issue of the Intel Optane memory getting corrupted or due to a hardware issue which doesn't allow this bootable USB to recognize the hard drive. Therefore you have to include the Intel Rapid Storage Technology (RST) drivers for the specific laptop within the boot USB so it will see the hard drive during the recovery process. The use of the Rufus utility seemed more effective than HP's own system recovery process so I appreciate you having shared this video.

"Boot device not found" was my problem and it arouse because I connected the battery the wrong way. Enabling legacy mode solved the problem. Thank you a 1000 time!

@CR7 OP If the hard drive passes the test, and the other steps in this video did not identify the problem, then the problem is most likely an operating system error. Reinstall Windows as seen here; th-cam.com/video/p_N_xV7j_Xo/w-d-xo.html. You can make your own Windows 10 Install Media free as seen here; th-cam.com/video/g_UhiHScaSI/w-d-xo.html. If you cant create your own, you may have to purchase it. You can see an example of a good install media USB in the Repair Tools list here; www.amazon.com/shop/pcmonkey.

@@naadromo9268 What brand computer do you have? If its an HP than the key you should type would be the one in this video. Have you been able to run the scan?
In my HP laptop, instead of "Hard Drive Check" is Storage Tests, and when I click it takes me to a page where there's 2 options: quick and extensive check (same as the video). But when I click "quick check" nothing happens, it just takes me back to the same page. The memory test worked and passed.

Windows 7 HP Pavillion (HP DV6-6153CL) with a Windows 8.1 disk inserted, though it won't boot from either the HDD or the 8.1 disk.
My BIOS looks **exactly** like yours until we get to Boot Options. There is not a single thing regarding Legacy or CSM or UEFI anywhere. We've been searching for hours.
