  • In today's video I'll be showing you how to fit a Velux Blackout Blind - in a Velux window I installed a few months ago.
You can buy me a coffee here www.buymeacoffee.com/charlied... or become a monthly member to unlock Discord forum membership, exclusive content and automatic entry into my FREE Monthly Giveaway. Thank you SO SO much!!
You can now access my 🛠Charlie DIYte Amazon Tool Store here www.amazon.co.uk/shop/charlie... - where you'll find all my tried, tested and much loved DIY tools arranged into handy categories.
The blind I'm installing (in my daughter's bedroom) is a manual roller blackout blind, but exactly the same principle applies if you are installing a Velux solar powered electric blind.
It couldn't be more straightforward with Velux's brilliantly easy to follow pictures, but sometimes a video is quite handy for the trickier parts of the install, so that's why I thought you might find my install video useful!
    In Today's Toolkit:
    - Screwdriver - provided in the kit; or
    - Electric screwdriver with T10 screw bit

Charlie you saved me a lot of grief. Simple easy to follow step by step video. Much better than the instructions that accompanied the blind.

Absolutely brilliant demonstration, very clear and no surplus waffle. I was installing mine leaning across a gallery so was doing it blind and just following your instructions.

Hi, Thank you for easy to follow the video. I have just completed installing the replacement Velux blind. Amazingly easy to do and no broken finger nails. I am 65 years young and have never been put off by a challenge in all my years. The only thing that I was a little confused about when the blind arrived was the fact that the original fixings on the window and indeed the old blind itself looked totally different to the ones on the new blind. Your video gave me the confidence to place the blind. The rest as they just followed nicely. Thank you.

Really useful. I watched this before ordering the blinds and was reassured that I could fit them. I anticipated a few problems because the windows are 30 years old but there weren't any. It doesn't take any great strength/power tools/machismo. Thank you very much.

Brilliant! I’m crap at DIY but felt confident enough to try this and it really was as easy as you said! I’ve no bradawl so used a nail and a block of wood to tap it in just a little. The wood is soft enough for this to work well. The little velux tool was fine too. Feeling a bit smug! Worth a subscribe! 👍😊

Your very helpful and clear video was clearer than the Velux own one because you did close ups and talked to us about the different steps. So much easier to follow than just the pictorial leaflet guide as well. The design had also changed since we had the original put in 14 years ago. So we now have a fully functioning blind again, put up with no stress thanks to you!

You're very welcome, thanks so much for taking the time to comment. I agree. The pictures are all very well (and cheap for Velux as they don't need translating across jurisdictions) but are sometimes a little hard to follow.

While the instructions are good I kept this video saved for that year ready and it was great just to get the reassurance I was putting it up correctly as it doesn’t seem like something made to be taken apart! I have installed five velux blinds over the last few days without any problems but the fabric on one side of one of the blinds is not taught and overnight it bows outwards at a couple of points in the lower half of the blind otherwise it works perfectly have you any suggestions as to how I can remedy this? The cord and fabric fit in the channels and the movement is smooth when opening and closing the blind Thanks in anticipation Tony

Very good and clear explanation, especially placing the metal sidelines and fixing with screws not to get openings between side-metals and top-metal. Missing the first part explanation, in case you do NOT have already the right plastics in your window, how to install the right plastics in the top of your Velux window to fit the top metal part of the Blind (step 1) . The two spare plastics are provided, not explained how to install them if needed. Thanks for your video.

Always good to see someone else explain clearly - and thank goodness there's no annoying heavy -metal background music, or the like accompanying it! - , but I pride myself at having fitted an older Velux blind myself with the clear Velux instructions that come with their blinds today. Sadly I'm having to buy an altogether new set because my Velux skylight window was over 30 years old (sprung a small leak!), and Velux tell me that I cannot use the perfectly good double-blind I so carefully used in the last 6+ years.. because, as they say, 'the dimensions of the windows have changed somewhat', and my older blind will not fit. I take this with a big pinch of salt, as in these days of 'use and throw.. and buy a new one', is what we have to endure! I'm sure if I seriously put my not -too-bad DIY skills to it, I can adapt my older blinds to fit, even if I have to sacrifice s little loss of 'perfection' here and there, but laziness at my age is a great enemy, haha. Nevertheless, good video Charlie!

    • @CharlieDIYte
      @CharlieDIYte  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks Giorgio. I suspect you'd struggle to adapt the old blind to the new window, but I agree, it's gutting to throw away a perfectly decent blind.

Hi thanks for the video. I am having a problem removing the old blind for replacement. The side pieces have been removed but I can’t work out how to extract the actual roller, any tips, thankyou

Great video. Picking up on a previous message regarding the lugs that the top section of the blind locates on, do these come already fixed to the windows as neither your video or velux show this step. Also any advice on removing an existing blind. I have removed all the pieces except for the top section with the blind attached. Do they just pull out or do you need to press a retaining device furst in order to remove them

You're welcome Oliver. I agree. Pictures are great for Velux in that they mean less translations internationally, but they're often pretty confusing.
