  • This is a very common error on the Vauxhall Corsa Model D. This particular one is a 1.3 litre CDTI 2010 version.
Signs and symptoms of a water-damaged ECU is fault light permanently on (a little yellow spanner on top of another shape) that is not the common check engine light (yellow shape), scan tool reading multiple faults including glow plug errors and intermittent or non starts, with dashboard lights still coming on, but no crank or glow plug warming up light.
The ECU tends to suffer from water damage due to a manufacturer's design fault in the placement of the ECU in the rain-water drainage area under the windscreen.
You don't have to place extra taping around the edges on the ECU. The company I used, sealed it really well from water ingress, so I wouldn't say it is necessary, however I do highly recommend that you elevate the ECU off the water line of the drainage area by the method that I've shown in this video. If you do tape it make sure you place something over the two non-tampering seals that the ECU fixer company leaves on, so that the lifetime warranty is not invalidated.
I forgot to include in the video where the drainage holes are, so I'll upload a separate video for that soon. Good Luck! Please subscribe and hit the bell button for notifications of new videos.
The company I used to fix the water damaged ECU was excellent
and the link is here ... www.bba-reman.com/gb/index.aspx
Their ebay link is here ... www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vauxhall-C...
If you do use this highly recommended company because of my video, then please mention me to them ( educationpineapple from youtube as your referrer ).
I go through the pain so you don't have to, good luck with your fix!

I mounted my new ecu about 1 centimetre higher than normal using nuts as spacers between the ecu and body and I also cut some drainage slots in the bodywork underneath where the ecu sits,so really there should be no reason for it to get immersed in water again.....hopefully

I’ve got the same problem I suspect. The car was actually running but wouldn’t rev past 1500 then after half hour or so the car cut out and won’t even attempt to crank over I’ve taken the ecu out and the board was covered in grey sludge I’ve cleaned it with alcohol and looks a lot better just waiting to dry off and I’m going to have to clean the case up as it’s quite badly corroded and see if that has helped

Too bad this video didn't show the actual ECU removal process. Have unscrewed the ECU and found some manual on the net that says "Unclip front wiring harness (2) Detach engine control unit bracket from engine control unit". Having trouble unclipping the wiring harness and it seems it's keeping the whole assembly in place. :/ Can anybody help?

Thanks a lot for your videos, they are really very useful. I would like to ask you a question, my ECU (the same of this video) is irreparably damaged, I would like to buy a reset used one, do I have to bring my car to Opel if I cannot recover the data from mine?

speak to someone from the company I mentioned in the video, they might be able to help with recovering data from ECUs.

I have the same car from 2007. It won’t crank over and only start when you push start it. When I run the car it locks at 1500rpm. What could be the problem?

Do you have any advice for further waterproofing this component? I appreciate a breather point is needed to prevent condensation build up in the ECU itself, but could the ECU not be encased in its mount in a loose fitting plastic membrane? This would divert any water which could potentially fall straight onto the unit away to the scuttle panel drains. Is there anything you would be cautious about in doing something like this? I would ensure there was still a free flowing space under the ecu mount to prevent any pooling of water.
The reason I'm asking is because I recently replaced an ECU, and had all scuttle panel drains cleared - only for my replacement ECU to become more flooded than the last one.. and I can't work out why! I've even poured a 1.5l bottle of water directly into the scuttle, and it all drains perfectly with no pooling.
I was thinking of an acrylic book cover laid over the top of the unit, and wrapped under the edges. Maybe fixed with cable ties. I would have to cut holes for the mounting points but I could fill the threads with grease or something water resistant. Owain

Underseal it, or heavy duty lacquer and leave essentials unpainted.

Hi. I have a corsa utility bakkie 2007 model. Starts up perfectly, but when driving it cuts off the engine, revv counter and speedo goes crazy, cluster lights come on and sometimes when i push my clutch in the bakkie revvs up on it's own. After the engine dies, it just starts up again easily with the swing of the key, but the starts doing the same thing again... Please help. Plugged in a diagnostic machine, no errors. Checked relays and numerous of things on the engine. No luck. All of this started after i repaired a blown head gasket.

I remember when I blew an exhaust on a Ford Mondeo. The car forgot its fuel injector ID codes (see one of my videos). Luckily I had wrote it all down using a bi-dirctional scan tool and reinstalled the codes. You'll need to read off the injectors themselves. Try also checking the ECU for water damage. Open it up and look for moisture around ECU, if so follow my instructions in this video. Good luck.

Did you clean out the leafs etc, and clear the scuttle drain.???????
If not you going to have same problem repeating soon.

    • @EducationPineapple

Yes cleaning up the leaves is very important. Watch my follow on video where I show the viewers where the three drain holes are located, to be unblocked as a part of general cleaning.

    I have a Corsa D 1,4 petrol edition.
Does it have the same danger, cause I've been told that this is a problem that only diesels have because they have the ecu in different place.

    • @EducationPineapple
      @EducationPineapple  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

That's a good question. Open up the bonnet (hood) and look for thick electrical cables disappearing into the area I worked on where the ECU is located on mine. If there's no cable, then I guess not.

Click on my link to the company I used...BBA-Reman to see how much the unit costs. Replacing it is very simple, so I would definitely do this task myself, but ensure you raise the computer off the water line like what I did and clear out any debris and drainage holes. Good luck!
